7 | Design of Reinforced Soil Walls | Dr. Jimmy Thomas | Part 1 

Dr. Jimmy Thomas is a consulting engineer specializing in geotechnical engineering, geosynthetics, reinforced soil structures and pavement engineering. He graduated in Civil Engineering from Regional Engineering College Calicut in 1986, obtained M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering from College of Engineering Trivandrum in 1988 and Ph.D in geotechnical engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1997. Jimmy Thomas has been associated with the geosynthetics industry in India since 1997 and has extensive experience including manufacturing, testing, design and installation. During his stints with companies like Netlon India, Gaware-Wall Ropes Ltd. and Techfab India Industries Ltd., he worked on a large number of important projects in various fields like roads, railways, landfills, erosion control, reinforced soil structures, ground improvement etc. Since 2009, Jimmy Thomas is working as a freelance consultant. He has been associated with several important projects as a geotechnical consultant including several national highways 4/6 laning projects, Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, Hyderabad Metro, Kochi Water Metro etc. He is a design consultant to Titan Environmental Containment Ltd., Canada. He is a partner in Geosynthetics Technology Advisory Services LLP, a consulting company offering expert consulting and advisory services in geosynthetics technology development, training and consulting. Jimmy Thomas worked as Assistant Professor at NIrma Institute of Technology Ahmedabad for one year and as Adjunct Professor at Albertian Institute of Science and Technology, Kochi for four years. Jimmy Thomas has published about 20 papers in national and international conferences and had made large number of technical talks and presentations. He was member/corresponding member Indian Roads Committee (H-4) on Embankments, Ground Improvement and Drainage (2006 - 2017), member Bureau of Indian Standards Sectional Committee TX 30 on Geotextiles and Industrial Fabrics (2003 - 2004 and 2006 - 2009) and Executive Board member, International Geosynthetics Society (India) for the period 2012-2017 Presently he is Member International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Technical Committee TC-213 on Scour and Erosion for the term 2018-2021 and Executive Committee Member, Indian Geotechnical Society - Kochi Local Chapter
