The one thing that "clicked" for my son as a young pitcher was practicing pick offs to first base. As a RHP, he noticed that he could throw harder to first than when he pitched. So, he was able to finally understand hip to shoulder seperation.

According to a study at movement 1st by Eugene bleeker and Emily ferree there are a list of things how they found hip shoulder separation. Keeping your upper half back while you open up your pelvis IS NOT hip shoulder separation in the data. To get hip shoulder separation according to Eugene bleeker and Emily ferree you have to land well, you have to decelerate with the lower half and brace. You have to think about once your rotate your pelvis into the ground you have to think about stoping them from rotating any further once they’re squared towards your target. Bleek and Emily got guys to try keep upper half back at all times and they didn’t see hip shoulder separation. They got guys to try to think about deceleration they saw hip shoulder separation numbers get better but it doesn’t guarantee higher velocity. There’s plenty of guys who don’t have hip shoulder separation and still throw mid 90s upper 90s and 100. Ken Crenshaw has been a trainer for numerous years and he had Randy Johnson tight everywhere in his body and still threw 96-98. So don’t worry about hip shoulder separation please it comes it’s not forced. It doesn’t guarantee velocity increases. I’m trying to hop on a zoom call with the goat Paul nyman to talk about this

HELP! SOMEONE HELP ME 🙏🏼 PLEASE I’ve always had a strong lower half and I’ve been taught to “use your back side” and “drop and drive”. I need help undoing this-I’m Trying to correct 20+ years of misunderstood coaching. Any cues or drillS that help? I just want to understand and have a conversation about this. Also, I love talking baseball. All comments/help accepted.
