Man I’ve been doing this for a while. I always use Joel Tellings trick of modeling in a layer I’ve the hole and then punching thru it after it’s printed, this is a really cool idea. I didn’t expect that.

if you add a thin profile covering the hole the height of a layer -- then the nut bridging will work much easier, and you just break through the single layer of material to use it.

But breaking through a layer of material is a pain, especially if you have tens of holes, and this method works perfectly without needing any breaking through or post processing at all. Honestly, give it a go and let me know how it goes for you.

Rearding the hex inset, it is much easier to just chamfer the hole so you get a 45 degree overhang that is printable. The nut will rest on the edges where there is most material so it will be fairly strong even if the distance to the other side short.

If you ever printed Prusa parts you'll know where the idea for the down facing holes comes from.

Well done Steve - the best design for a downward facing hex nut hole I have seen. Great video for that alone. * * * * * David

Love the zip tie tip! Thank you. What's the slot along the top right edge for? Ribbon cable for the Raspberry PI? Did you reinforce the inside of the lid?

Where you do you get your well behaved cables? Mine don't go where they're told like yours do. Thanks for another video. I liked the print friendly nut holes.

Haha. I normally use silicone cables with high strand count on printers. They are very well behaved.

@vector 3d Why do you have springs on the bolts holding the ballscrew nut?🤔
@Vector3DP
@Vector3DP 4 года назад
Its actually the formbot raptor design that one. The intention is that it allows sliding in XY plane while not allowing motion in Z. Prevents and chance of Z banding with slight misalignment.
