7 Effective Home Remedies For Bed Bugs (GET RID OF THEM FAST!)
www.epicnaturalhealth.com/how...
Bed bugs are small - around 5mm in size - so they are visible to the human eye, but only just. They're oval-shaped, flat and rusty-brown in colour. Unlike other bugs, they cannot jump nor fly.
They crawl out of their dark crevices at night to feed on blood which results in those infamous bed bug bites. Although they won't spread any disease, they can be uncomfortable and some people will experience a reaction to bites.
Females can lay up to 250 eggs during their lifetime of about two to four months. Eggs are laid in cracks and crevices and are oval and white in colour.
What causes bed bugs?
Contrary to popular belief, bed bugs don't have anything to do with dirt - so an extra shower a day won't keep them at bay!
bed bugs feed on blood, anywhere with animals or humans is, technically, an ideal place for them to set up camp. Bed bugs move from place to place after feeding, and can hide in anything from bedsheets to your t-shirt,
Signs of bed bugs
Besides actually catching them crawling across your sheets, there are several other signs of bed bugs to look out for, including:
www.epicnaturalhealth.com/how...
Bites on skin
Small, black spots on your bedsheets (bug faeces)
Bed bug shells (they shed their skin much like snakes)
A musty smell in your bedroom
Blood spots (could occur if you unintentionally squish a bug in your sleep)
Preparing for a bed bugs treatment
Remove clutter
Despite their name, bed bugs don't solely reside in your sheets - they could be hiding in cardboard boxes under the bed or on clothes in your laundry basket.
Before you try to treat bed bugs, you need to get rid of as much clutter as possible. Replace cardboard boxes for plastic boxes, put all your clothes in sealed bin liners and do the same with soft furnishings of any kind.
Deep clean items that could be infested
Everything that could have bed bugs must be cleaned thoroughly. This means heat treating clothing and sheets in a tumble dryer, or placing them in the freezer overnight before laundering as normal, both of which will kill bed bugs.
Any furniture in your bedroom should also be examined for evidence of bed bugs and cleaned as necessary. Curtains should be removed and cleaned professionally, and the whole room should be vacuumed thoroughly.
It's extremely important to keep all cleaned items in sealed plastic bags. The vacuum bag should also be removed after use, placed in a sealed plastic bag, and disposed of.
What's hiding under your sheets?
Bed bugs are so-called because they bite at night. Although they don't always live in the mattress, they often do. Moving your bed away from the wall, furniture and anything else will make infestation anywhere else less likely.
Vacuum the area
The last step before you start treatment is to completely vacuum on, in and around the affected area.
Vacuum your bed thoroughly, not only concentrating on the mattress but the headboard and slats too.
Once all that's done, you'll be ready to treat your bed bugs using these home remedies.
Home remedies for bed bugs
A professional, bed bug infestation treatment is the most reliable way of guaranteeing the full extermination of your bed bugs. If you'd prefer to try a DIY treatment before shedding out any cash, give the following home remedies a go.
1. Starve the bed bugs
If you don't mind taking the slow and steady route, starving your bed bugs is another option.
First and foremost, it's important to vacuum your bed thoroughly. Next, you'll need to get hold of some Ziploc bags for your mattress and leave them on for around a week - this will prevent any bugs from getting out and feeding, thus causing them to starve to death.
2. Diatomaceous Earth
Diatomaceous Earth is often considered the most effective of all the natural bed bug treatments, killing more than 90% of bed bugs.
It's also cheap and easy to use - its powdered form means it can be sprinkled into even the smallest of cracks and crevices. The downside? It takes up to 10 days to work.
To use, apply 100% Diatomaceous Earth onto the affected area and leave for a few days. You should slowly start to see dead bed bugs, which you can vacuum away. Repeat the process several times, until all bed bugs appear to have been eradicated.
3. Bicarbonate of soda
Here's another reason why it's always handy to have a pot of baking soda in the home - it can kill bed bugs.
Sprinkling bicarbonate of soda onto areas affected by bed bugs is thought to physically dehydrate their skin, whilst others suggest it's abrasive enough to cut them.
It's cheap, it works, so what's the downside? Treating bed bugs with baking soda is timely - you'll need to repeat the process of sprinkling and vacuuming regularly in order to banish them. This in turn, means you're going to

diatomaceous earth. Very lightly sprinkle around house. one cup will do a house. It dries them out and kills fleas. Thats what I used. You can also cut a small whole in your mattress and kill the ones living in there. www.amazon.com/HARRIS-Diatomaceous-Powder-Duster-Included/dp/B072J8Z28F?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-ffnt-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B072J8Z28F

Bed bugs were alive after 3 years without food (blood) in the entomology lab in the Ohio university experiment. You can't keep the bed bugs away long enough for all of them to starve. Anything you do to get away from them or prevent them from getting to you is futile. You have to kill them, all of them, including the new ones hatching from eggs!

@@Marla.22o was I shocked! Also, the bed bugs turned white. My professional exterminator told me if they do not feed, they will turn white. I have figured to get them out of clothes,, because I have lost so many; if put in a tub full of boiling water, they will most certainly die! Then launder them and dry them as though they still had bugs on them, to finish the job.

I used 91% isopropyl alcohol with tea tree and lavender essential oils and we found the infestation, which had not gotten very well established and sprayed them heavily with the mixture with is a large bottle of this alcohol in a 32 oz spray bottle with 40 drops of both oils, shake and then spray liberally this kills them on contact. Then I got a mattress encasement and entombed the bastards and continued to vacuum and spray this mix. So far so good! I have washed EVERYTHING.
@jennanidanu1
@jennanidanu1 4 года назад
iqavvey I will try to do that for you. I have not seen one in a few days but my fight goes on. I have now got an exterminator coming, this mixture I made works but you must keep on it and spray all the time to keep them away. I have had great results with the diatomaceous earth too, also tape up your electrical outlets and put the earth into the outlets, after you turn off your breaker to the outlet. Then tape them up because I think they move in the walls from room to room. I have been using double sided tape on walls and the legs on my bed too and that works very well. I used gorilla duct tape to tape up outlets. I live in a fourplex so I need to be sure I got them this time, we are on wave two of bed bug genocide!

@jennanidanu1
@jennanidanu1 4 года назад
@@SpartanThe300th Not a problem. I got lots of time right now, I was suspended from work until this bed bug deal is signed off on. I hate my job so it's all good! I have other means so I am not too worried about it right now just want to get the bugs out of my life! I am semi retired and wish I had more money to retire all the way. I want to help you all and so I will tell you what the exterminator told me to do. He gave me a list to follow and some of what he has told me to do is: 1. Get all your cloths that are in the effected area bagged up and tied up, tight! I have been labeling them, for example dresser or closet. 2. Go to the laundry mat, don't do them at home or in your laundry area as I have in my building. You will need to wash with hot as your setting and drying on the hottest setting for at least 45 minutes. You will not need to wash everything if it is already clean then you need to only do a hot dry and no wash. Toss the bags you brought the cloths in and put the clean cloths in new bags and tie them up tight once again. Now it's a given you have stripped your bed and washed EVERYTHING the way I just described. 3. With everything in new bags and all tied up tight you can now bring them home but not back in your bed room. I have a storage unit and will be putting all my newly bagged cloths in there. If you have a garage or a similar place like I do, then by all means store them there. 4. Vacuum your bed room thoroughly, with your edger along walls and everything. If you have not covered your mattress then you should vacuum it at this point or re-vacuum as I did but then I did get a containment cover for my mattress and covers for all my pillows too, I would recommend this for peace of mind. When you are done you must take the vacuum bag out of your house and toss it. If you have a canister vacuum like I do you need to take a wet wipe with you outside to the garbage and dump then wipe it out real good, the eggs and nymphs are very hard to see so do a very good job ok. Check behind your pictures and clean your walls if you need too. The term "going OCD" comes to mind! I will be spraying my mixture(91% isopropyl alcohol in a 32 oz. spray bottle with 40 drops lavender, tea tree and peppermint essence oils)while I do my room as it works well at killing them on contact. After all this then the exterminator will come in and only after I do all of these steps. Bed bugs are very tenacious, they are great survivors, don't skip at step. I have used double sided tape on my bed frame legs and the wall behind my bed to great effect, I caught some of the bastards!!! I have put diatomaceous earth along the floor board between the carpet and the wall, behind my bed, this works well too. I have also seen them in my bathroom and as my bedroom and bathroom share a common wall I have also put the earth down on the crack between the wall and floor. To be fair I have only seen one live one in there, the rest where DEAD!!! I hope you have a quick end to your problem! Take care.

90% Rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and spray the heck out of EVERYTHING; furniture, carpet, curtains, etc. Open your windows when you do this and be careful not to have any open flames like candles or pilot lights nearby. The vapors alone can spark a fire. Also get some diatomaceous earth and a garden duster to spray inside crevices. I drilled holes in my walls and pumped the powder into them like crazy. Be sure to fill in the holes or cover with tape in case you have to re-apply powder. This was THEE most effective solution for me. All of that other (professional) stuff didn’t work and cost wayyyy too much money.

Also a hair dryer with 30 secs of use on cracks especially around the floors or actually anywhere will kill on contact (after 30 secs.). Then powder areas with Silica Gel powder then if you wanted you can seal with a clear caulk. You can even seal after silica powdering the light and outlet areas sealing again if wanted with clear caulk. Over time , or about a week the bugs will be dead , dryed up and gone. Silica Gel powder will also kill the larva and eggs as it absorbs the surrounded moisture of anything it comes into contact with.

And buy Climb- Ups for your bed legs as that is the way they can get onto your bed and feed on you... Also, buy a bed bug mattress protective cover and bed bug pillow protective covers... Fortunatelly I already got rid of them (at least I hope I did). I just found and ruined all their nests with their eggs and killed bed bugs themselves (they were mostly at the metall corners of my bed). But sometimes I see 1 or 2 bed bugs, it happends pretty seldom and doesn't disturb me very much (in comparison with what was before). I killed one about two weeks ago, hope it was the last one in vy flat. It looks like they go from my neighbours and it makes it much more difficult to get rid of them because even if you kill all bed bugs in your flat, new bed bugs are likely to come from your neighbours.

Speaking with experience here, I helped a friend of mine with his problem because the landlord would only provide our countrys version of "Diatomaceous Earth" and to be honest its just silica, tiny crystals that cut the wax outside of the bug and killing it by drying it out, which can take quite a while, and depending on the severity of the infestation it could take months. A much more effective way to get rid of bedbugs unfortunately cost a bit more too, but it is heat treating them, our weapon of choice was a steam machine, and with all the fittings that came with the machine we were able to get inside crevices and other tight spaces and get to the bedbugs, we did this for a few days to be sure we got every single one of them. What we weren't able to steam (like electronics) we instead packed in tougher big plastic bags and loaded into a drying cabinet, we set the temp at 60c/140F and left everything in there for about 2 hours and spread out so that the heat was able to reach everything, he didn't have anything sensitive like paintings or pictures so your mileage may vary, but electronics held up fine, some plastic that was very close to the heating fan was somewhat warped but the rest was fine so in retrospect we would have left a more open space up top. Some of the preparations that we did were that we brought new clothes every time we steamed his apartment and changed clothes in the drying room, just to be sure we didn't carry any bugs on our clothes, its rare that they stick to the hair but to be sure we ran a dryer through our hair as well, don't worry about heat, the bugs die long before you get hurt from heat. After doing all that he waited for two weeks before doing any additional steaming to make sure we got all the eggs and there weren't any tough survivors, but we were clear! Now, going with a professional is always the best option if you have the funds, but there are things you can do to help, steaming around any furniture that isn't sensitive to some humidity is a great way to kill them fast, steam normally evaporates very quickly so the furniture would have to be antique to be sensitive but do it at your own risk, cleaning clutter is a great way to find out where the bugs are hiding, they will normally stay within close proximity to their feeding ground, if there are more than one tenant in the building they can of course travel from room to room but rarely do so unless there is a lack of food but it is a good idea to check the area around the bed for identification of bed bugs. He was clear of bed bugs within 3 days and didn't get a bite after that, now this worked for us, but the scale of the infestation will determine how much of this you have to do, don't stress, just follow the steps above or if you have the money, call a professional that can leave a guarantee bug free home after extermination. Hope this helps anyone struggling with these pests.

Thank you! This was very helpful. Do you think they can survive in a car in the summer heat? My husband and I just returned home from a summer project- and the hotel room we were staying in was very infested with bed bugs :( I had a lot of bites on my body :( Because we don't want them home when packing for home, I put all the clothes in plastic bags ( unfortunately I could only find regular bags not zip lock or vacuum) and in the car. And we thought if we leave almost all of our stuff in the car they would die from the heat. But they seem prety reseleant from what I read. Also what to do with our laptop, other electronics, hairdryer, iron ( i took all of those with us on the trip) :( I don't have a dryer maschine so what I started doing is washing few bags of clothes at a time on 60C minimum, then air drying them and then ironing them. Most of our staff stayed in the car for 3 days. The car is exposed to direct sun for at least a few hours a day and the temperatures here are around 35C. So inside the car is very hot. Also, after finishing with the washing of all the clothes what should I do with the suitcases? :( And ofcourse cleaning of the car. Ohh your friend is lucky to have you, we could use a friend with your expertise :) come to Europe to help us :) Best regards P.s. Don't mind my broken English

Do you think the manager of these apts should hire an exterminator to come here n do the treatment ? If so where could we go ? Maybe to another apt here on the premises ? My husband n I get a check every month but it's not enough to pay for the other place n this one too. Our manager said it would cost up to $500 to get the whole apt to exterminate. We dont have it n we have no money to stay anywhere else.

Hi, thanks for making this video on bed bugs. I work in the pest control industry, I deal with bed bugs constantly. I also have a site with some articles on bed bugs. Your video is great, but I'm going respectfully refute some of the things you mentioned, specifically the natural products. 100% agree with all the preparations before treating, you mention using some natural products to use that frankly can make bed bugs worse for people. My main gripe is with rubbing alcohol and essential oils. Rubbing alcohol will kill bed bugs, however it will repel them further into the cracks and crevices as will essential oils (which doesn't kill them). Over time you may not see them, but that's only because they are hiding and multiplying in those cracks and voids. Hence, making it worse because now they are harder to treat (even for a professional) . This makes it difficult to get products to the areas bed bugs are hiding. Boron is really only effective with self grooming pests like cockroaches, crickets, ants etc. Baking soda does nothing, and bed bugs can live a lot longer in a sealed bag. I would be happy to provide you with some proper info for a future video. Again please have a look at my site (on my YT profile) and read through carefully, as some of what you mentioned in your video can cause some real harm to your viewers. With all my respect. Best regards

Get bed bug mattress and pillow covers. One for the mattress and one for the box spring. Make sure the covers specify bed bugs, because a normal mattress cover won’t work. They will contain any bugs inside the mattress, and can be easily sprayed down without damaging the mattress. Use white or light colored sheets and blankets to spot them easier. If your infestation is light, or mostly confined to one room, you can use bombs formulated for bed bugs, in this method: Strip down the bed, place the mattress upright, or at an angle, open drawers and closets, then bomb. Be sure to stuff a towel under the crack in the door. Once the room is clear, put Cimexa or DE between the box spring and the mattress. Place on clean sheets. Two weeks later, repeat the process. Then start observing. In one month, repeat the process a third time, to assure any eggs that may have hatched in the meantime get wiped out. Lay down Cimexa, or DE outside your bedroom door, or spray with insecticide. You can do both if you choose. Keep an eye out, and re-treat as needed. Other tips: tuck in your shirt at night. Wear long sleeves if possible. You can also tuck the bottoms of your pyjamas or whatever you sleep in, into your socks. Put Vicks Vaporub or something that contains menthol around your wrists and neck, and around your ankles if you hate sleeping in socks. Vacuum often. Be vigilant. And get the other members of the household on the same page. All your work can be undone by someone in the house who “can’t see them” or slacks off on prevention.

Home Depot sells tiny portable steam machines (some come with 11 piece kits) that can be used to kill them. I used one to kill all of mine in my bed - you'll need to do multiple treatments every day for a week or two. Combine that with super tacky gaffer's fat tape strips to roll around your bed to capture as much of them as fast as possible - before you go in with the steam machine. They also sell glue traps to put on the feet of your bed. There's also a bunch of herbal liquids sold for this problem that these bugs hate to be around.

@Keys879 4 года назад
@@avalexis184 Hey there, I hope you already got it solved, but if not... Here is what fixed my solution. Largely in the first week, but we're still treating to ensure the problem is gone... It cost us WAY less than $4,500. Just a few hours the first day and an hour every other day for what has been a couple weeks now. We'll probably continue for another couple weeks to ensure we've gotten all of them and any eggs that have been missed and later hatch. WHAT YOU'LL NEED: - *HARRIS Resistant Bed Bug Powder* - (Silica Powder, NOT Diatomaceous Earth, there IS difference!) - $10 on Amazon - *House Safe Insecticide* - I recommend "Bifinefren". It is generally sold as "Bifen" and comes in concentrate form - $12 on Amazon. For Indoor & Outdoor. - *A Heat Gun* - Any shop-style heat gun will do, so long as it gets good and hot. - Amazon sells a few for less than $50-100 - *Vacuum and/or Steamer* - You can do without the Steamer but it will sterilize your fabric and carpet without risk of burning it. - Amazon sells a McCulloch Steamer for ~$150. I used to deep clean my car interior afterwards for an added bonus use. TOTAL: All-in-all: ~$270 Just the Essentials: ~$70 WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO DO: + Start by Vacuuming EVERYTHING. From your couch, any futon/lazyboys/etc. Vacuum any rugs. Both sides. Go over everything. This takes the longest time. Clear out ANYTHING on the floor. This is your chance to ultimate deep clean your home. If you've got the Steamer, use this in conjunction with the vacuuming. Baseboards, any wood furniture, and anywhere dark. They LOVE small spaces, especially under wood cabinets, running boards, and tables. Any small crack or crevice must be checked. + After the clean, mix your insecticide as per the directions and apply it pretty liberally around the premise. Soak the seam between the floorboards and carpet. Soak your couch, your futons, and your lazyboy furniture. Anything and anywhere they could be hiding. I mix the Bifinefren with warm water and Fabreeze in a 3:1 fashion. This way it smells nice where you apply and the warm water makes it easy to keep track of where you have sprayed. You will apply this every few days. Especially on the floor around your bed. Spray the sides of your mattresses and box spring. PLEASE TAKE NOTE: IF YOU DO GO WITH BIFINEFREN: If you have Cats, they are apparently highly affected by Bifinefren. Dogs and most other mammal are unaffected. But Cats can be affected. We kept the dosage to the prescribed 7.9% mixed to 1Gal of water and my two cats were un-phased. But please do your research and take necessary precautions. +Once you laid down the insecticide it is time to lay down the Silica Powder. Take the Harris Bed Bug Powder and add a fine layer under your couch, between your mattress/box spring, along the walls between the baseboard, in the doorways between rooms. Your house will look like a Chalk Factory. I'm sorry, but that's the way it is. It goes away after a week and with your vacuuming. This dust lacerates their exoskeletons and causes them to dry out. Especially the young ones. + After applying the the insecticide powder/spray. I waited a day and then aggressively went after everything I could in the house with the Heat Gun. I ran through the seams, inside the couch, took all the cushions off and made sure everything was basked in the searing heat of the gun. BE CAREFUL! These things run very hot and it is not all too hard to burn your carpet or furniture. My couch has a few burn marks along the back and underside as I learned how far away to keep the gun from the surface. YOU WILL SMELL THE BURNING BUGS! PHASE ONE IS COMPLETE! You've probably eliminated 80-90% of your infestation problem! BUT YOU'RE NOT DONE!!! - Continue to Vacuum every 1-2 days. - Re-apply the powder to crevices and anywhere you think they might travel through. If you use the bottle right, you shouldn't have to buy another. You don't need much! - Once a week brew up some insecticide Fabreeze and hose the furniture, doorways, wood items, etc. I fogged the carpet with it as well. YOU WILL BEAT THIS MENACE!!! PATIENCE AND DETERMINATION IS KEY!

Silica powder (comet for example, or can be bought online exclusively for bed bugs). Rubbing Alcohol, Bleach, or a brand insecticide will also work. Getting a heat gun or a large heating unit and blasting anything they could be in. Temperatures above 120F is enough to denature them. Also, when you crush them or kill them, they automatically release a pheromone that warns the others in the area. You can smell it, it is very distinct. So I capture them with a klenex and put them in a jar. Then spray with Bleach. They'll sit there and let you pick em off one at a time so long as you dont crush one!

Inspect everything in your bedroom and living area. Behind pictures, under desks/tables, inside your couch/chairs, under rugs, along floor edges. They live close to their host (you) and never go too far. I also used a heat gun and, without getting too close as to burn the fabric, ran it along my furniture and carpet corners. They don't only come out just at night but during the day to. They've hid my T shirts and regular shirts. I would feel a ichy feeling on skin and I would feel a tiny lump under my shirt the size of a pea. It would be a bedbug. When I woulfd pinch it , it would pop and I would hear it, there would be red spots appear.

@@billsmith9249 The bug guy we had come to our work (about 64 years old) said he only needed to do my bed even though this is in the Carolinas where all 3 bedrooms are upstairs in a tiny hallway. Plus I hadn't slept up there in weeks. They needed to eat something. This bug guy claimed that bed bugs don't travel alone or on people. Only in bags and large items....... (like a human). I simply asked him if he would do the hallway or replace the bed. (We work with bedbugs all the time in the south. Never pick up something to a dumpster. ) This dudes confidence and self esteem was so low that he called my district manager on me. I never told him anything. Is being unhappy a threat now? He was ridiculous. Always check mattress seems for bedbugs. Here in NM we don't get them. People think they are the micro bugs that eat your skin. But in NC when I saw the first new bug I'd have never seen I knew instantly what it was because they don't belong IN my pillow. Or I'd of caught them faster.

This is how i remove my bed bugs problems. I have removed my curtains before thats an easy access to eat me. I bought this bag for the beds from home depot i got two to double bag them so they won't come but make sure you don't puncture a hole on them trust me if you do get duct tape asap. Throw your clothes away for good the one you were wearing when applying those plastic wraps. With the first layer poke a hole to spray bed bug killer spray do as much as you can then tape it up and lastly put your second layer for protection. Wash all your sheets wrap them in plastic bag DO NOT OPEN IT UNTIL YOU THROW AWAY YOUR CLOTHES THAT POTENTIALLY HAVE BED BUGS. I had hardwood floor but heres a tip with carpet step 1. Vacuum your floor three times them steam it with hot water with the carpet vacuum cleaner use bleach just in case that didn't affect them do it three times. Let your room dry then vacuum again. Wash all your clothes with hot water twice so just incase those fuckers are still alive. Its easy and simple just clean your tables with bleach to make sure theyre arent there no more find their favorite spor remove them. I hope this can help you guys ❤ good luck with your journey

He says I'm crazy and that I have some kind of skin condition. That since he has no bites and he hasn't seen a bug they must not be there. Well yesterday I finally found one to show him. If you live in an apartment complex it's harder to get rid of them because they live in the walls if you live in a house it's much easier to treat I treated mine from a hotel visit I brought home anyways I got the box spring and mattress and stood them up right off the ground and I cleaned the middle frame really good sprayed everything down with 90% isopropyl alcohol mixed with bleach I mean I sprayed everything down really good multiple times and vacuumed really good you have to keep up with it everyday also I bought some hotshot bomb foggers for the night use those every two weeks I also bought bed bug and egg kill by hotshot basically I sprayed everything down with that but I used to bleach and alcohol everyday and vacuum everyday then after bombing twice every two weeks and spraying with the bed bug and egg killer every couple days it eliminated the problem but just to be safe I bought a plastic case for the box spring and the mattress just got to pay attention they don't come back
