@@bababababababa6124 That's not so clear cut; as far as I'm aware there was only one incident (Evra) which was somewhat ambiguous. There were no other people who heard or saw the incident first hand and there was not a clear camera angle on him when it supposedly happened. He was essentially punished because there was no proof he didn't do it rather than any real proof he did. There's also the possibility of a lost in translation cultural thing which was later claimed by people (similar to the Cavani instagram incident) but I'm not sure that was the case given what was allegedly said. There's plenty of reasons to dislike or even hate Suarez but there's very little evidence to support the "he IS a racist" claim even were the Evra incident to have happened in the way it was claimed
It's so strange how Mexican supporters are furious about his dramatic fall in the 90th minute after being lightly fouled by Marquez, but never talk about the much clearer foul on Robben in the 45th minute of the first half where he didn't get a penalty despite being fouled by two Mexican defenders. Even if you say it wasn't a penalty in the 90th minute, at the very least you have to admit that it's balanced out by him not getting a penalty in the 45th minute.
@@Vliegedebroodrooster It was a very light touch, but Marquez stepped on his foot, which was the foot he was just going to lift. The main criticism I have of Robben is his overly dramatic fall, but I don't think any VAR would have overturned the decision.
@@frankvandorp2059 Exactly!! But every time people mention that clear penalty in the comments, the Mexican supporters just ignore it. Most of them are just very salty

regarding the Henri Handball incident, the playoff was supposed to have an unseeded draw but that was changed to a seeded draw when france failed to make the tournament. Head of EUFA at the time Michel Platini. Coincidence? I think not. Also, the deserved the disgrace they had at the world cup.
Regarding France and FIFA..... France has been bombing Mali for over two years, yet FIFA hasn't banned France from FIFA competitions as they did to Russia.
It was unreal how they were able to change that literally before the play offs. Seeding the top teams was an absolute disgrace seeing as it was never done before that
@@mikedon5205 Neither the Referee nor the player in question had anything to do with UEFA's action regarding the changing of the draw from non seeded to seeded.

England, Scotland and Northern Ireland aren't countries. The country is The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - which does have an "and" in it....
Ireland doesn't have "the" in the name. Republic of Ireland is used in official capacity very occasionally, but the country is called Ireland in official documents and even in the constitution
Marco Materazzi in France; not at the level it was a couple of years ago, but the memory of Materazzi baiting Zidane (whether we believe Zizou should’ve been smarter) into head butting him and getting red carded, still irritates a few French fans, not only because of the eventual loss, but also because it was Zizou’s last match with Les Bleus.
Yeah that one still hurts, but to be completely honest with ourselves, Materazzi being the recipient of our hatred is us being dishonest and looking for anyone to blame but Zizou. Trash talking has always been part of the game, having our hero headbutt an opponent was shameful and seriously broke the heart of so many of us, especially kids like me at the time who just couldn't understand it, therefore Materazzi's name is synonymous of shame and nobody likes to feel shame so we do blame him, somewhat unjustly as if he was responsible for all of it. Seeing Zizou's career end on that note, with him walking off the pitch beside the world which he was about to gift us almost single-handedly was heartbreaking. Good shout.
@@kattharsismic I always cringe when French people blame Materazzi. I have a player that should have at least made it to the honorary mentions : Mario Yépes in Cameroon. I am cameroonian, and for those who do not know, during the 2003 international cup, one of our players, Marc Vivien Foé (played at City and West Ham btw) sadly lost his life on pitch during the semis against Colombia. He collapsed after a contact with Yépes and although the intent was obviously not to hurt, let alone kill his opponent, Yépes is till this day genuinely labelled a murderer by the old heads of a whole country, 20years later. I was too young to witness it myself, but since then I saw how much he is hated in the country. People wished death upon him anytime we saw Colombia play at a WC since
@@rohithraman6488 It was right after a contact with Yepes. He of course did have a heart condition, knew about it but allegedly decided to play in spite of it and get treatment after the competition. Such a sad turn of events.
I am a Ghanaian but I don't think Suarez is that hated in Ghana as a matter of fact there are people in Ghana who are Barcelona fans who love him but maybe hold a little grudge against him most Ghanaians blame Asamoah Gyan for the loss rather than Suarez
Personally I think you can blame the rules of football. In other sports such as rugby, if you stop a certain goal (or try in rugby) the referee is allowed to immediately reward a goal. This would be very rare in football as a goal is usually not guaranteed but this is one of the few cases where I think it would be beneficial to give the referee this power.
I'm not Ghanaian, so I have no dog in the fight and I know that no one can account for the feelings of many people in a nation, but I really think that is very unfair to Gyan, he was absolutley immense in that tournament and should be rightly celebrated as a Ghanaian football hero in my opinion. Having said that I'm Irish and many people here still hate Roy Keane for leaving the world cup in 2002, despite dragging us there not single handed, but close to it.
that's nice to hear... Suarez hand has been already settled with the Red Card. That's the punishment for the foul he committed. He didn't break any rule. Unfortunately Gyan who had been incredible during the tournament failed to score. But all that is rightfully kept between Football rules. A different story would have been if the referee didn't show Suarez a red card... and still in that situation the person to blame would have been the refferee.
@@VictorMurp You can definitely blame the rules of football, since it never should have been a free kick to begin with. The Ghana player literally dived, no contact, to win the free kick that led to it.
It's a bit of an oldie, but nobody in Spain has yet forgiven Mauro Tassotti for breaking Luís Enrique's nose in the USA 94 QF that pitched Spain against Italy.
I'm a united supporter and I've never been able to wholeheartedly hate Suarez simply because of how good he was. Also whilst he is objectively pretty awful I've always seen him more as a child than an asshole. Like, when he is celebrating against Ghana after they missed their penalty, or when he is literally biting people out on the field, that seems more like a the actions of someone who is just really really dumb rather than mischievious.

As an Irishman, I have to disagree that Rice is hated in Ireland. It's all largely been forgotten about now. We have good young players who would go through walls for the Irish jersey now and that, for me, and a lot of other Irish fans is more important. Thierry Henry is still public enemy #1 in Ireland. It was him going on the big screen in the Aviva that spurred Ireland onto a good result against Belgium.

As a Mexican, I am very happy that you included Robben, it really disappoints me because I really liked him as a player but that day made me loose all respect I had for him.
Only that Robben should have had a penalty in the first half and that the penalty called in the 2nd half was the right call. He embellished but the defender clearly stepped on his foot.
At a lower level, for a second list, Tussuf Poulsen in Peru shoud be included. Despite qualifying for a World Cup after 36 years, in the first game of Russia 2018 the peruvians were already "by logic" disqualified when Poulsen led Denmark to a narrow victory against the south American. In Peru, you here "Poulsen", and you have a headache for the rest of the week.
Ehh.. . Not even close to dislike, most people in Peru used the phrase “Cueva choncatumadre“ which would translate to "Cueva you motherf****r" because he failed the clear penalty that would give the team the advantage during that match and that hatred for Cueva increased over the years until 2021 when it stopped mostly due the madurity showed by the player on the last two years.
That game against Serbia was so fucking funny, I lost it when Lichtsteiner did the double headed eagle as well lmao. And we're playing them again in Qatar...

I remember that day like it was yesterday, Robben had a great performance, and us Mexican fans are the only ones who were affected by his acting. To this day
If you remember it so well, don't you think it was somewhat deserved because of the not given penalty in the first half, where two (!) mexican defenders fouled Robben in the box? The game would have been over with two red cards for Mexico.

Fun Fact about Robben: when Max Verstappen won the F1 Championship, there was a dutch sports TV Show that embraced and admitted the #NoEraPenal as a sign of respect for Sergio Perez regarding his role in the last races of the season and even invited Mariachis to play live.
@@wilhelmdietz4023 That's never a penalty in a top league, contact was not concrete and barely touched the shoes, also keep in mind that was in Robben's diving peak, not even referees were buying that in Bundesliga. Also yes, The Netherlands was a much better team than Mexico, no doubt about it, yet they were also a much better team against Costa Rica and they went all the way to penalties, that's football, you can be better but if you don't score you don't win, and Van Gaal was all about ball control and not so good goal scoring (as a Man Utd fan I perfectly know his style), so your argument of them being better and thus having it garuanteed to win is beyond stupid my friend, no offense, football doesn't work like that, and Van Gaal's Netherlands team lacked goal conversion (although they had a legit bid to become world champions, unlike us).

I've been watching almost every video of this channel for the past 3 to 4 years. From the first 7 greatest ... of all time series and 7 best pl players of all time to recent documentaries. As you pointed out youself in one of your recent videos, your style of speaking and the quality of your audio has changed a lot and I approve and enjoy that a lot. With that being said, the videos have reached a length that I don't consider enjoyable anymore at times. Youre earlierst videos were about 5 min long and over the years they gradually became longer which is fine. But a 23 min video for a top 7 is just not the extend I am enjoying. Of course this is your channel and I dont know how other viewers fell about this change, but I much prefered videos around 10-15 min length for the usual top 7 and only documentaries in this length. Nonetheless still a big fan of your video style and my favorite football channel on yt:)
yeah, I'd put both Thierry Henry and Jack Grealish above Declan Rice... easily. Though I speak from a different perspective as a dual-nationality, Irish/Englishman. Henry's brazen bit of cheating offends me far more than Grealish or Rice and is far harder to justify. I can at least sympathise with the pair, as the FAI's mismanagement of Irish football in general has made our national team an increasingly less-tempting prospect, in terms of facilities, coaching staff and much more. being part of the current England set-up would be far more tantalising, while I don't like what they did, I can respect it to some degree. though Grealish ruins it by also being a fucking idiot off the pitch and a smarmy, smug bastard on it. placing him above Rice for me.
I'm from Northern Ireland and we lose the odd player to ROI but if I was ROI I don't think I'd ever forgive Grealish or Rice. Being from the north it's obvious to me that ROI defines itself by its historical relationship with England and the UK. For an Irish citizen like Grealish or Rice to turn their back on ROI and declare allegiance for "the enemy", is far worse than what Henry did. Henry did what he did for his country whereas Grealish and Rice turned their back on their country, making them pretty much traitors and mercenaries.
@@Pax_Veritas Unbelievably, I'm well aware of the fraught history between England and Ireland, and how Ireland have been on the receiving end of English bullshit for centuries. but You're oversimplifying, you're talking about two lads who were born and raised in England, to English born parents. they deserve some definite criticism for taking the Irish setup for a ride, but they were always as much English as they were Irish if not more so. it ultimately was down to decisions made in their teenage years for both of them, deciding between divided country loyalties at a young age. both chose the Irish setup in their very early teens, and left it at the ages of 19 and 21 respectively. it's a complicated decision, ethically, I feel they did some wrong but it's a complicated matter. Cheating, is not a complicated decision, it's binary, and Henry chose to do so as a man well into his damn 30s...

I am still firmly on team Suarez. He did not cheat. He deflected the ball with his hands, was sent off for it and the opponents got awarded their penalty. Everything went according to the rules. Let me disagree with the Irish hating Thierry Henry. I can only speak as a Frenchman living in the States. All Irish i have met here hate everything about France now. Thank God i don’t live in the North East as most are there. Every time i hear an accent from the British isles which i don’t differentiate beside maybe for Scottish, i hate asking their country because if he tells me Irish i know it’s coming and being French we don’t take any shit either. For a Frenchman to root for England now during an England-Ireland game takes a lot but its me now. This does not concern Irish Americans WDGAF! Get over it!

There's another complicating factor that played a part not just in the reason why Maradona was so hated in England, but also the national rivalries between England (in particular, though the UK more accurately) and Argentina in a football context. The "Hand of God" goal occurred in 1986, just 4 years after the Falklands War was fought between Britain and Argentina over the disputed Islands ~500 miles off Argentina's Coast. Many in Argentina at the time felt some sort of vindictive pleasure at getting one over on the English, as they were still raw with the defeat in the war in 1982. To this day, unfortunately, the football rivalry between England and Argentina has little to do with football and more (it seems to me) an offshoot of the dispute over the Falklands
@Salty Spoon clearly you didn't ask ALL England fans as the ones I was around definitely did NOT want Argentina to win. One of their players slamming the ball right at the Dutch Dugout only seemed to harden their negative views of them. I guess your opinion is based on a romantic view of Mesi finally winning a World Cup?
the hatred was always there really, given that England treated south american football for the longest time as "inferior" (and held quite the racist view of us) and played a rather infamous hand in the 1966 world cup when the argentinian team captain was sent off just because "he had a mean look on his face" add to that the declarations of the British coach calling us "animals" in lieu of the outrage and well it was a matter of time til something triggered that dormant feeling

I always liked Suarez and still, would defo do the same as him - he gave Ghanians a penalty, and their player failed to score it; England (Maradonna) or Ireland (Henry) didn't get half of that chance to recover
