Sea of Thieves is absolutely FULL of these. My favorite is if you have a little sit down on your ship while it's on fire. Commendation Unlocked: This Is Fine
Ellen's comment about the devs of A Hat in Time needing to stop looking at cat memes is that much funnier when you remember the Nyakuza DLC is a thing.
I only played the switch version so far so I didn't realize there were even achievements. One thing I don't like about the switch. But a true A Hat In Time fan would know that Hat Kid is not a human, Ellen
There's a TON of achievements in Star Wars: The Old Republic for dying in unique ways, like jumping into the sarlaac pit on Tattooine. But the ones I want to mention are on the same planet. The first requires being lazered to death by Polly the parrot on Dantooine during the Pirate Incursion event and being rewarded with "The Polly Exclusion Principle" and the second, "Well That Was Unexpected", is rewarded to you after jumping into a well and dying.
The only achievement I got while doing something purely out of curiosity was the Psychotic Prankster achievement from Fallout 3. and then for way more hours than necessary because my favorite or almost exclusive means of killing enemies(and a couple non-enemies) in that game. to get this achievement one must simply reverse pickpocket a grenade or a mine into an unsuspecting victims pocket... then you might wanna get away quickly. In unrelated news my character became owner of crater-side supply in megaton! 😇 you absolutely will be losing karma. Oh, and this achievement returned in Fallout 4, with the name "Prankster's Return", as a nod to the original.
Maybe not quite the same, but in Megaman X6, if you jump into a void on easy difficulty, you're teleported back to the ledge. The first time you do this, you get a hunter medal called "Wait, What?"
Limbo; if you ignore the fact that to the left of the starting spot looks like a wall, you'll find it's a actually a cave, and inside is the achievement "Wrong Way"
Wait I just realized could OutsideXtra do a video on Mario references in non Nintendo games? The reason I say non Nintendo is that there are a lot of Nintendo references in Nintendo games so it would just feel like cheating to put them on the list. Heck if there is not enough Mario references in non Nintendo games then why not expand it and make the video “7 Nintendo Easter eggs in non Nintendo games”
@@ashercd6487 Specifically so-called Australia (always was and always will be aboriginal land) but really America is the only country out of over 30 "developed" nations to not have medicare for all. America is a 3rd world country with good advertising.
Personally I found the achievement "The Strong, Silent Type" interesting from that game. Sure, let's go through a dialogue-heavy game and never speak once, great idea... 😂
@@ZoeBateman Yup, it’s in the official soundtrack, ‘A Terrible Fate’ it’s called. Fun fact, it’s the only example of a human voice in the entire game, one of the devs says ‘it’s so obnoxious, it’s great’ at the end.
King’s Quest has a bunch of these. Such as replaying the game to see if you can take the same hidden path across the river, _and start crossing,_ only for the narrator to say “wait, that’s not how it went… go back.”
In Enter The Gungeon there's an achievement called "I Knew Someone Would Do It", the description being "Why" You got it by flipping a table, and then slowly pushing it into a pit somewhere. There's no real reason to do this other than curiosity
It doesn't really have 2 parts. The original saying did not have the satisfaction part. That was added by someone else many years later. So they're more like 2 completely different sayings.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution has an achievement at the very beginning of the game called Old School Gamer. It requires the player to locate all of the interactive objects in Megan's office during the tutorial using only a basic cursor point. The tagline of the achievement is, "Point-and-Click much?"
Sadly unlocked that one on launch day... yes I AM that guy. Took way longer to play but was also a pacifist playthrough. Got to last hour of the game before I ruined my stealth and set off an alarm 😅
in Lego: The Lord of The Rings there's an open world hub which you can walk around which includes all the big places in Middle Earth. You get an achievement for walking into Mordor called 'One Does Not Simply...'.
There's also "They're taking the Hobbits to Isengard!" that you get by unlocking all of the Hobbit characters and making them walk into the Isengard gates of the overworld.
If you do the same thing in The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe version while carrying the bucket you'll get an even better ending; possibly my favourite of the ones I've found so far. Well, it's either that one or the bucket + power on mind control machine.
There's one in Fallout 4 worth mentioning: In Diamond City, a settlement built out of an old baseball stadium, eagle-eyed players will notice that the bases are actually still on the ground where they would be in real life. If you start at Homeplate and run the bases in order as quickly as you can, you will get the "Homerun!" achievement.
Fun Fact about Alyx's liquid physics: They aren't. None of the bottle have any fluid simulated within them, they just have some really clever (or exceptionally stupid, if you ask the guy who designed them) shaders applied to the outside of the opaque bottle object
Silly idea for a list: 7 video game characters that just really needed a hug I think most of us can relate to that, especially those still in quarantine
Samus Aran from Metroid as a child everyone but her on the planet of K2-L was killed and as a adult has to fight the monster who did it on a regular basis.
Alyx who gives you one at the start of Episode 1 but you can't give her one after she's been trapped under a screaming stalker, or when she really needs one in Ep 2
In Horizon: Zero Dawn, there's an achievement for knocking down all 23 training dummies scattered throughout the starting area that is controlled by the Nora Tribe. 7 of them are right at the house of Rost, where you start the game, and then each settlement has at least 2 more, all the way out to the last Nora settlement that you run into before moving into Carja territory, meaning its really easy to forget that its a thing, or to miss one or two somewhere, so it really rewards players who explore the area (or who just look it up).
Another Hat In Time achievement for the dirty minded is "Why" During the murder mystery portion when you're asked to enter a body part you're ashamed of, if you type a naughty part you earn that achievement and a good laugh
There's two other ways to earn that achievement as well: One for picking the swear word PECK in one of DJ Groove's levels and one for typing up anything risque on Hat Kid's version of Google.
I'm shocked that The Outer Wilds "Gone In 60 Seconds" didn't get a mention. What's that? Is there fall damage in a space simulator game? Better test that right away....CRUNCH!
There is another trophy in "Rise of the Tomb Raider" that could have gone on this list. It's called "Bacon!" and you get it by killing a razorback with a molotov.
When I found the Marco Polo achievement in Uncharted 2, I immediately started trying every body of water in the sequels. I started doing weird kills in the Tomb Raider game too and found this accidentally. 😂
Night In The Woods' Crusty achievement, where you have to pick up Gregg's leftover crusts instead of opting for the untouched pizza slices in front of you Finji's way of saying "You're a lil bit nasty, and we think you deserve a reward for that."
I have a soft spot for "Whee!", a Pathologic 2 achievement that asks you to... jump off the Polyhedron - but you need to do it on a specific place, marked by an origami crane !
Bioshock 2 has an achievement called "Irony", for going out of your way to find a golf club, and using a plasmid to punt it into a statue of Andrew Ryan (referencing his death in the first game). I don't think it's technically irony, but it's a good pun.
The Darkness: the achievement in the very beginning for staying and watching the movie with your partner was genuinely heartwarming.. More so if you know how the intro finishes.
I'm not prone to motion sickness, but Little Nightmares led me to a bad case of "Motion and light induced migraine". I got about 15 minutes in before i had to stop all gaming for the day, destroy my liver with OTC headache meds, and lay down in a dark room. Its a shame, my dad gifted me the game, wish i could play it more. Coincidentally, i can't do VR because it leads to migraines as well. Can I get an achievement for those? "I need a bit of a lie dawn. 50G Get a migraine from our game."
Do traditional motion sickness remedies like quinine (tonic water) or seasickness tablets help at all? My friend said the more you play VR the more you acclimatise to it, but if you can't handle more than a few minutes that's probably not going to be a solution for you. I struggle with motion sickness with games myself- had it really badly a few months ago but it turned out to be eye strain so I got some eye training exercises and new glasses and now I'm back to only struggling when motion blur is on :D (and with VR. Apparently my eyes aren't spaced far enough apart for the standard eye placement VR devices or something)
@@ACWells13 sadly, they don't help. I wish they did. I'm actually very photo sensitive, for instance, florescent lights trigger migraines, even CFLs. That period of a few years after they banned incandescent lights but before LEDs became affordable was rough. Every day of work and school throughout my life has been accompanied by a headache. I just learned to accept that certain things wouldn't be for me. I get why people like VR, and i hope the technology keeps improving, even if I can't enjoy it. The best place i worked was a mail room where they let me disable half the florescent ballasts in the room.
Alas, she's talking about the drag queen who dressed up as the statue (apparently the judges didn't get it 😞). Jane's the one you want to watch, with her Bluebell Hill ghost references and such
@@alexthorold3496 Oh, well that's less exciting. There I was thinking the OutsideXbox and OutsideXtra guys may have had the pleasure of witnessing ole Waghorn in all his cone-y glory on a Friday night after stumbling from the sticky floors of the Crap'N'Bin to the Taxi Rank at Chavham Station 😅
In Crash Bandicoot 2, you could get 10 extra lives by jumping on Polar's head several times in the second hub room. The N-Sane Trilogy decided to also reward you with an achievement for doing this
Now im gonna have to remember this and do it next time i play 😂 i remember the lives thing from the the second game, but the fact you can get a reward now for doing it makes me want to do it 😂
Fun fact! The impressive liquid physics in HL:A was patched into the game post-release! It was coded by a Valve employee during lockdown, who seemingly spent a lot of time during this period "studying" booze.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has one called "Lombax and Chill" for switching on the TV in Rivet's hideout, which can only be done if go out of your way to return there since your first visit is during a cutscene.
Deep Rock Galactic could have several on here. Kicking all the barrels into the launch bay, putting a barrel in each of the seats in the drop pod, and putting every barrel in the drop pod are all good. But the best is getting "natural selection" by getting drunk and jumping into the hoop for the barrel mini game.
A lot of achievements in Omori were hilarious to me but for me what really takes the cake is Goodbye, World! Where you litterly fight the entire planet of earth, defeating it gives you that achievement.
Ellen had time to do voice over for this video. That means one thing: she told Luke about the KoA achievement and made him get it so she wouldn't spend 4 months playing the game and miss the upload deadline. So next KoA livestream with Luke and Andy when?
Genshin Impact has a BUNCH of achievements you get for doing random stuff, like filling all your party members with food, trying to get a Pyro Hilichurl Grenadier to dig a Pyro Slime out of shallow water, or gliding for a minute and 20 seconds in one go. My favorite of the bunch has to be "Beloved of the Anemo Archon", in which you climb the Anemo Archon's statue in Mondstadt and carefully tread on its arms, after which you're prompted to SIT. 😂 This cheevo awards you 5 primogems and the satisfying feeling of knowing your curiosity wasn't for naught.
In Prey, there’s an achievement for climbing on top of a helicopter and walking into the blades, one for finding every crew member, and one for scanning your own Phantom Shift duplicate. I’d say those are all things you’d have to be pretty curious to do. There’s also one for recycling yourself with a recycler charge, but that could just as easily be done by accident. Case in point, I got this one when I piled every moveable object in the psychotropics labs in the middle of the floor, threw a recycler charge onto the pile, and it rolled back towards me. On the bright side, doing this also got me the achievement for recycling 20 objects with a single charge.
Lord of the Rings Online has a ton of deeds hidden deeds that serve this function. Unlike normal deeds, they dont show up in your journal and often involve you doing something s Absurd. One of the most fun ones is the Pits of Moria deed that involves falling in a bottomless pit in (almost) every region in the Mines of Moria, granting the title "Blind Leaper."
I quite enjoyed accidentally discovering "Well Traveled", also in Moria. I freaked out the whole way down, then spent 20 minutes laughing hysterically. Wore that title proudly for months hahaha!
In one of the Borderlands 2 DLC, Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon’s Keep there is a dark spot that if you fire your gun at you get an achievement/trophy for attacking the darkness, which is most likely a reference to an 8-bit D&D adventure video in which a wizard attacked the darkness with Magic Missile.
"Problem Solved, Series Over" in MGS3HD is one of my favorites. 1.) Because the title's just great. and 2.) It's probably the pinnacle of Metal Gear's "If you can think of it, you can probably do it". MGS3 has a lot of them (Like using bees to distract a guard, or throwing a snake on a guard and it biting them), but this one is my favorite of them all.
Messing about in Astro's Playroom, I happened upon a fun achievement for doing a spin attack, knocking away at least ten followers that I had amassed...In reference to the Matrix franchise, it's called 'Project Neo' and it made me do a hearty chuckle. ^^
I kept a bottle of vodka in one of my inventory slots in half life alyx for most of the game to see if I could give it to Russell at the end of the game and I was devastated when I lost all of my inventory on the last mission
Does it REALLY count as "curiosity" when riding Rumbi was featured in the game's trailer? I thought Hat Kid's inclusion in the thumbnail would be about getting the achievement "...why?" on the Owl Express level, and *I* was curious about how you'd dodge the censors to describe how to get that.
There are so many achievements like this in Deep Rock Galactic that I spent the whole video waiting to see it mentioned. Things like kicking every barrel in the space rig into the drop pod, spending an hour dancing to the jukebox, or jumping through the flaming hoop from the barrel game while drunk. Perhaps a bit too risqué for the channel, but Nier having an achievement for trying to look up 2B's skirt too many times also fits the bill for "achievements only curious gamers will get."
I remember when I was playing Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning thinking they really missed an opportunity for a humourous achievement with that second jump. Which I never did! I swear! They could have called it "Idiot!" or "Now That Was Just Stupid" or "Really? Again?" or "Even Lab Rats Know Not To Repeat An Action With An Undesirable Result" or even "I Still Regret Nothing".
Deeprock Galactic's "Hi Ho Silver, Away!" for riding the mule for 15 seconds is a good one. Found it today trying to find a quick escape route by riding on top of it.
On the PS2 before "Achievements" were a thing, you had "Skill Points" in the original Ratchet and Clank games and there was a random drainage pipe just above the ground on Planet Orxon. If you crouched down to look through, you see a flying creature called a Screamer. Shooting it would award you the Skill Point: "Sniper" I remember being so proud of myself =)
@@johnoneil9188 they DID make a new DLC that you need re-reckoning for though... hmmm and it's kinda like an epilogue chapter to the main game. Or so I heard, haven't played it since I have the old version
@@marhawkman303 Yeah, I heard about that just recently. I want to tackle the full game at some point but the base game already took me 75 hours and I don´t have that time right now.
2:12 i'll have you know that that "horrible spaghetti arm man" is named Roger, and is believed to be trying to protect the children by keeping them away from the adults
In all my hundreds of hours in KoA, I can't remember if I've leapt through that hole in Idylla. I think I tried it once, maybe, or else I rightly assumed I'd probably die if I jumped down, lol. I need to stop being distracted by Spiritfarer and Bloodborne (and DS3) and get back into KoA properly since they released the Fatesworn expansion/DLC.
Genshin Impact has a lot of these....They give achievement when you decide to sit on the hands of Barbatos's Statue in Mondstadt or when you try to play with the Dialogue Volume in the settings. There's also an achievement I believe for when you eat the food you're supposed to deliver for a commission.
The Pit in Portal 2, its like the one for Amalur just with a snarky robot trying everything to get you to jump down into it. The other memorable one is the secret ending in The Outer Wilds, complete with Kazoo theme
It Takes Two has a lot of fun trophies mostly revolving around messing with the other player xD Also Concrete Genie has some really adorable trophies for interacting with your genies which are completely optional - they're all amazing but my favourites are probably Besties and My Happy Place
The psychotic prankster achievement from Fallout 3 you get this achievement for putting a grenade or mine in a characters inventory while your pickpocketing them. In the HD remaster of Resident Evil 4 there's an achievement called don't shoot the water it's awarded by provoking Del Lago into swallowing Leon whole which is done by shooting into the lake.
On FO4, I intentionally left this until my last trophy, stuck a Nuke Mine in Marcy's pocket in the room they're all hiding in in Concord and watched so that would be my platinum trophy image. Payback for all the god damn whining! Sanctuary Hills never sounded so peaceful.
That Fallout one sounds funny! Like a psycho E Bunny replacing their picked & pocketed goods with an explosive easter egg! The Re4 one I loved. I watched a livestream or vid where either the Eurogamers or the Ox People (🐂👨👩👧👦!) got tricked by some of the chat into triggering Del Lago. Some trust in chat advice was def damaged by that!
Crash 4 has an achievement called "Channel Surfer" where you have to interact with a TV at the beginning of the first level. Everytime you change the channel the title screens from the previous 3 games (as well as 4) show up and the BGM changes to a rendition of the original theme.
The Sinking City,...there is a button. A big red button. I can press it..I want to press the button but I don't know what will happen if I do.... HUGE MONSTER and also a trophy. 🏆Well earned because I lack impulse control.
I honestly got the Lollipop Chainsaw version by accident trying to figure out the camera controls. Not that anyone believes me about the accident nature...
@@mattkennedy9308 now that I think about it, i think i heard about the res 4 one through this channel when they covered embarrassing achievements. and they made the exact joke XD
Lord of the Rings Online has an achievement for throwing yourself into the well in Moria that Pippen knocked the bucket into. You may end up dead (though it's possible to survive) in the Water Works far below but it's worth the fall. These two areas aren't connected by anything but that well and there is no story-driven reason for you to jump in the well other than to follow the bucket's progress. The achievement, of course, is called "Well Traveled."
How about the achievement "I'm You But Stronger" in Lego The Incredibles where you have both Buddy and Syndrome working together. I was really struggling to think of an achievement that someone hadn't mentioned yet.
Im surprised Sekiro isn't in here. " The demon of hatred", you get it for fighting a litteral building sized demon some how hidden in the Ashina Outskirts.
"Child at Heart" in Avorion (PC): Do a barrel roll with your fully functional battleship. I can't stress how hard it is to make a battleship in space do a maneuver like this. But it is a lot of fun. :)
