I am in Italy but I have been watching a lot of MLS in the last 2-3 years... the league is really growing in popularity both in the US and in the rest of the world. Of course its still lightyears behind the top European leagues but its still a major achievement for them

No. Develop him in America. You're weak because you keep sending players to Europe. They can pick things up there, but at the expense of an authentic American game. What you need are homegrown players prided upon that fact, looking to emulate Europeans, understanding it requires total immersion, not just tapping or placing the ball. When you strike, it should be with your full power. Defenders should fear getting in the way. Teach these strikers how to be men, and put total commitment in their game. The American game is still weak because rivalries haven't matured yet. In Europe, teams want to destroy their opponents. You have to have the mindset that your rivals' goal is there to get... taken against its will.
