LOL Blockbuster will forever hold a place in my heart. I met my wife there in 2006 on our first date and we rented The Departed. We got Chinese take out and watched it at her place. I slept on her couch, and returned it the next day. Now we have been married for 8 years and have 2 kids.

Z Jones Yes but Buster with its over Confident Ass didn't buy Netflix and even Netflix was just going to manage the Stream so it be almost no different then the one we have now...But they thought streaming TV and Movies for a monthly subscription was just a FAD and actually Laughed Neflix out the room When they afforded to sell themselves for a few million now Netflix is worth Billions.

@@yell0wberry according to insider sources that I have read about that company from 1980-2002 is that they literally liked the idea of the internet. Well like Sears/Kmart if they had way better management here. They would be probably still in business and Amazon would be part of them?

I miss Circuit City and Borders. There was a Borders and Waldenbook in my local mall and I went into Circuit City once that I can I remember. I vaguely remember the inside and I got one or two PS2 games

I can’t tell you how much I miss Borders. My grandma would give me Borders gift cards every Christmas, and every football season my dad and I would kill time in the first-ever Borders store in Ann Arbor, MI before the games.

I purchased I Pioneer sound system complete with XM receiver at Circuit City, and had it installed in my then Ford pickup there. It was a nice system. The main unit was ripped out of my dash several months later, and that was an insurance claim. Also, I enjoyed Border's in Colleyville, TX. It sucked when that chain closed. They had an excellent coffee ice cream shake. I miss that most of all.

Eddie Lampert bought Kmart then Kmart bought Sears. He is the head of a hedge fund and bought those chains for the real estate...then the financial crisis hit and he got stuck with both chains. Now he is just stripping them of any asset that he can sell.

The first time I dealt with Blockbuster in the early/mid '90s I was grandfathered in as a customer when they bought up a regional chain in my area. I drifted away because they couldn't compete with a good independent on selection or with places like supermarkets and gas stations that did video rental as a loss leader on price. In about 2003 I bought a DVD player and got a Blockbuster gift card. They had to re-register me to rent, which involved a double-sided legal size contract. It tempted me to say "I'm sorry, I wanted to rent a video, not the apartment above the store!" I spent my gift card buying used DVDs.

And Ames. And Zayre`s.I started at Hills my first real job and stayed 5 or 6 years.I worked daylight usually and overnight for Christmas and stocking toys,then helped convert the store to Ames when they bought the entire Hills Department Store chain.I stayed with Ames for about 2 years.When i put in my two weeks notice to leave Ames for a new job,about 8 months later i seen liquidation sales on tv that Ames Department Store was liquidating and closing.I loved working for Hills and Ames,but Ames bought Zayre`s,Hills,and quite a few other store chains only to close forever anyway.

I really liked Boarders. I liked how they had the musik section setup to where you could listen to certain selections before making a purchase. They even had live musik entertainment from time to time.

Media Play was another iconic retailer that closed their doors forever. I hope that a video of why they went under is made. I used to shop at Media Play a lot when they were open. They were founded in 1992 in Rockford Illinois and were defunct in February 2006, which was two months after their December 2005 announcement that they were closing it's stores.

bro it's crazy media play was my favorite store as a kid use to go in there to play video games all the time and boom it went away. in that plaza fun fact it had a blockbuster, circuity city and a media play all in one plaza craziest thing and slowly all 3 went away and I never knew why especially media play

Blockbuster was my childhood! There used to be one down the street from where we lived and my mom used to always rent movies from there. Not to mention the library, which is on the same street as where Blockbuster used to be, has some movies from the old Blockbuster store! Also, I can't believe how Circuit City will be reopening! It's not what I expected at all! But I sure hope they have amiibos for sale.

Should have mentioned that in 000, Circuit City abandoned the large appliance business and introduced a more self-serve "Big Box" format called "Horizon". This was controversial because in the previous year Circuit City was the number two appliance retailer in the United States, behind only Sears. The company had earned nearly US$1.6 billion in sales revenue from large appliances in 1999. However, executives were concerned about the competition from Home Depot and Lowe's and believed there would be big savings in warehouse storage and delivery costs if they quit the large appliance business. It was later realized that Circuit City thus missed out on the residential-housing boom of the mid-2000s, which saw a dramatic rise in new-appliance sales.

chdreturns -- and, what also did them in was a little thing called "private equity". Which in layman's terms means a financial vampire. A private equity firm is a big financial firm that buys a smaller one and loads it down with debt they will never get out of. It goes out of business as Private Equity LLC sucks it dry, like a vampire, and collects millions of dollars for its executives. It has no other purpose. Hedge funds have more socially redeeming qualities than private equity.

Of all the businesses mentioned in this video I’m only familiar with 2 of them and they would be blockbuster video and circuit city. It was those 2 places i bought stuff from.
