7 Minute Frosting and Granny's Strawberry Cake

Granny shows us how she makes her strawberry cake topped with 7 minute frosting in this video. Hope you enjoy visiting with Granny!
Seven Minute Frosting:
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/3 cup cold water
4 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar OR 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
Combine sugar, water, egg whites, and cream of tartar. Mix well for 1 minute. Place mixture over double boiler and cook mixing with mixer for 7 minutes or till stiff peaks form in frosting.

My mama used to make the 7 minute icing many years ago. I have the original recipe card she wrote it on. It's good to see Granny. She does remind me of my mama. When I saw you 3 in the garden together, it made my heart feel good. Granny, you have a wonderful family.

She didn't want to miss her family there at the end. I know that feeling Granny as it's rare for me to get them all together at one time. The cake is really pretty. It's sweet that she took Pap a cake when he was in the hospital. If you were on tv all day long... I'd watch every episode. Our country is just starved for such good wholesome living. My Mama liked to make a Devil's Food cake with the 7 minute icing. When I was a kid I thought it was magic when the frosting got mixed and ready, Mama would turn the bowl upside down and the icing stayed in the bowl. Good memories that I hold in my heart. 💝If you wanted chocolate icing just add cocoa. Granny reminds me of my Mama. Good country cooks!😊

I really enjoy watching you and your family working and eating together! My Mom was raised in Ohio and Kansas, and Daddy was from Kansas, and you'd be surprised at how many of the Appalachian sayings, my Mom especially taught us kids. And lots of the recipes too! It's lovely! We all played music too! We used to gather around and play for hours. We had a banjo player, a mandolin, a couple of guitars and I played an auto harp and a ukelele. I miss it so much! Thank you for sharing this gentle, funny, touching show, that reminds me so much of my own childhood.

My husband was really awesome when I spent 3 weeks in the hospital a few years back. Since he had to cook for the kids anyway, he would pack me some and bring it up every evening. He had an ulterior motivate, i lost a lot of weight when I was sick and continued to while I was in the hospital even though I was eating constantly. He was trying to keep me from wasting away. That home food was the highlight of my day

I don't know WHAT it is about certain things we all try to make exactly to a T to our Grannies, but I hear you. They never turn out as good! Mine is my biscuits. My Granny made the best melt in your mouth biscuits I have ever tasted in my life! She showed me countless times how to do it, but I declare they were never the same as hers even when she stood right there and made sure I did everything right. Then I figured out why. It's the love she put in every stroke of her hand. That's the part you can't duplicate. You have to wait until you're a granny before you can get that part right! I now have 5 grandchildren, and they say I finally got it right LOL. 🥰💖🏵

Tipper- I remember Mama making the 7 minute frosting to put on her coconut pecan cake. She often told me that the weather had to be just right so it would peak correctly. I miss her cooking. Thank you, Granny, for making this for us.

My nanny made strawberry cake but it’s evolved through the years into a sheet cake with boxed pink strawberry cake. Still make homemade frosting and top with tons of strawberries. A winner here and my daughter asks for every birthday! I am going to try the boiled icing. Easier then I thought!

Love Granny’s cooking videos ❤ She is a gorgeous lady like Mama and the twins. My oldest daughter Noah turns 18 in July and always asks for strawberry cake,but I usually end up making an angel food and topping it with whip and berries.This looks so much better and 100x easier/tastier so I made sure to write this recipe down and save the video so my youngest daughter Tatiana and I can make this. My favorite cake with seven minute frosting and strawberries is angel food. Mom started making it for my 4th of July birthday in the early 50’s. I haven’t made it for years. The recipe was in the old Betty Crocker recipe books. Yummy ❤
