Hi Tipper. I do truly love watching you and you're whole family and all the videos you do. While I was watching your video it triggered a very old good memory. I'm 76 now and a memory of my Aunt Ida making Red Hots Cinnamon Apples. I at the time thought she was making them just for me or at least that's what I thought at 5 years old. We'd go down home on the weekends to visit our Grandpaws and Grandmaws. On the way back from Kentucky Daddy would stop off at his older sisters place in Chillicothe on our way back to Columbus. I dearly loved those Apples. Well I got me some Apples and some Red Hot Candies and looked on the Internet and got a recipe that I thought might have been real close. My 5 year old self and my 76 year old self came together and enjoyed those apples. I think your Video that you were making Pepper Jelly is what triggered that memory and I surely thank you. Keep up the Great Videos. Tell Matt Congratulations on his Retirement. I'm sure he's learned by now that when he gets up of the morning that he has nothing to do and by the time he's ready for bed he has it half done. All the best to you and yours from an old country boy. I was going to send you a pic of my Apples but sorry I don't know how.
So nice to see someone still adds raisins to a cookie. Growing up in the 1950’s my mother used raisins and pecans in cookies . At that time mom did not buy chocolate. To this this day I prefer an oatmeal, raisin, and pecan cookie rather than a chocolate chip “anything”. 😊
I don't enjoy chocolate chip cookies, but I do like peanut butter cookies and the oat, raisin, pecan cookies. The strange thing is that I love brownies, so chocolatey.
@@helenmanning8066me too! Funny, last few days I've been thinking about applesauce raisin cookies,or oatmeal raisin that my mother made!! Not sure she made pumpkin raisin but they're good! Plump, soft so good!! Persimmon cookies cakes are good! I don't like chocolate chips in any and everything!! Just regular chocolate chip cookies!
I went to make pumpkin cookies one day and accidentally grabbed the cushaw out instead. It is now a favorite cookie of the family. Especially the grand kids. They eat ‘em as fast as I make ‘em.
Hi Tipper! This is Adele Wilson and my husband, Danny. We are celebrating his birthday in Bryson City. Yesterday we rode over to Brasstown to see the community where you live. We enjoy watching you and your family on RU-vid and have ordered your cookbook. Thank you for all the great and interesting videos. ❤ We are from Dallas, NC. I used to live in Newport, Tennessee and dearly miss the mountains.
Those look delicious. I bet you could put some whipped cream icing in the middle of two to make a whoopie pie. 😋 That was very nice of Matt to offer to cook. Love your sweet family. God bless y’all. ❤️
I will make these cookies! I make pumpkin bread or as I call it , spice bread - my husband loves it ! I got the recipe from a cousin who cooked in a fancy resort in the Cascade Mountains in the 1940’s - she was a wonderful cook, seamstress, quilter and made beautiful embroidery and tatting - she was a dear companion to my grandmother for many years - she could make anything - all her recipes used everyday ingredients you always have on hand - I think the secret to her cooking was knowing what went good in what - her cooking was out of sight! 🌹
My mum - a little woman - used to split big pumpkins in half using a meat axe! We were on a sheep farm and processed all our own meat so it was an axe only used processing food! I had forgotten this old memory. I was never brave enough to use the axe when I was a teenager making dinner - but used to often cut my fingers back then - so maybe the axe was the safer choice!
I remember in my 20s I tried to cut a butternut squash open with a knife a little bigger than a paring knife. Needless to say, it took a very long time. When you said you aren't that strong but you are determined, I thought of that immediately 😂
I grew up in the same “neck of the woods” as the Louvin Brothers. My mom always thought how crazy it was that people thought they were a big deal because she knew them as kids. 😊 I think they maybe went to school together. Their last name was indeed Loudermilk and they were from northeast Alabama.
I really enjoy time spent with you in your kitchen. It’s fun to hear how granny did things even if you do them differently. I do my pumpkin in the oven just like you!
After listening to you tell your story, I feel like I’ve been waiting for this my whole life. I’m a 61 y.o. NC (up Winston-Salem way) pumpkin lover too girl! 😊🙏😊
Absolutely love watching you and your family. I am from the Midwest and we love to eat acorn squash roasted with butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup. You are making me crave the fall squash! Thanks. ❤
The drop method made the squash split for me. Then one day I put the whole resistant squash in the crockpot. WOW! That was my favorite result. Tipper the🍪 cookies gave me a daydream taste of deliciousness
My husband would love those cookies. His favorite are oatmeal raisin cookies so I know he would love these with the raisins. Fall will be here before we know it.
I was going to say this also, so glad you did. I roast the chunks until the edges get nice and brown, then cool and freeze. I do the same thing with apples. Oh, yum!😊
Wow, those look and sound delicious! We don't grow those type of squash here in the mountains of Nevada. Our growing season is very short. It requires lots of covering and uncovering
I had to chuckle when you said Mat was easy to please. When my husband was alive I used to say that I could make a gourmet meal to put before him, or a peanut butter sandwich and I would get the same reaction, which was, “It’s real good.” So I never really bothered with fancy food.😊
Your voice is very easy to listen to . ANd the language is interesting . I love words, and you and the girls speak differently with some words, but that’s what makes you, you. I’m thinking I’m gunna try pumpkin biscuits ! And the jelly sounds interesting too. My friends always like my experiments into different foods.
Oh this is right up my alley. Love anything squash or pumpkin. I recently made some butternut squash oatmeal cookies. Nothing like a good fall cookie and some good tasting coffee. Those came out beautifully!
@mamamode1312 I'm sorry for the late response. Getting ready and prepping thanksgiving. Now, I didn't add the ginger because I don't typically have that on hand but these were pretty yummy. Here's for anyone interested. Butternut Squash Oatmeal Cookie Ingredients 1½ cup BUTTERNUT SQUASH 2 cups ROLLED OATS 1 cup FLOUR 2 tsp CINNAMON ½ tsp BAKING SODA ¾ tsp SEA SALT 10 Tbsp UNSALTED BUTTER (1 stick plus 2 Tbsp), softened ½ cup packed BROWN SUGAR 1 large EGG YOLK, room temperature 1 tsp VANILLA EXTRAC 3/4 cup Candied ginger 1 cup chopped walnuts Take out butter and eggs. Cook squash. Squeeze out excess moisture, then “smush” any large squash pieces. Set aside. Chop ginger and walnuts. Separate egg yolk. In a medium bowl, stir together oats, flour, cinnamon, baking powder and salt. Side aside. In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer to beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add eggs and vanilla and beat until combined. By hand, add squeezed squash and combine well. Preheat oven to 375°F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Stir flour mixture into wet mixture until just combined. Fold in ginger and nuts. Drop cookies onto prepared baking sheets. We use an 1/8 cup measuring cup to scoop the batter and get similarly-sized cookies. Gently press the top fingers to flatten into discs. The cookies will not spread while baking. Bake one pan at a time until the edges of the cookies are lightly browned. Check after 11 minutes, and every 2-3 minutes - as needed. Remove from the oven and cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to finish cooling. Allow cookies to totally cool. Store cookies in an airtight container.
I love pepper jelly. I like pumpkin and butter squash. I have never tried any other kind of squash. The cookies look delicious and would love to try the candy roaster. Love your stories 🤗
👋💙🙏💙👋Anything, almost, fixed with squash, is good eating. Yummy looking cookies Miss Tipper. I truly admire you. Such a busy life you lead, but you still have the time and energy for your loyal viewers. I’m amazed. 👋💙🙏💙👋Jen
Never had a candy-roaster….never actually see one ( sheltered life). Oooh cookies…..mmmmmmm! I bet those cookies would be great with a cream cheese frosting for Christmas cookies! This is the stuff (information) that I love about this channel 💭 thinking outside the “box”! Or at least, making me think outside the box!❤
I love your "puttin up" and recipe videos, Tipper. Thanks for sharing. Ive been wondering what is on your Thanksgiving menu this year? I hope you get a chance to share some of your meal prep with us. Also wondering if Matt has ever brought home a turkey that he hunted before. And Christmas-- have ya'll ever cut your own tree? I'm looking forward to some of your upcoming Holiday videos. I am still hoping for snow for ya'll. My momma used to say "ever" day instead of "every" day too. Prayers for Granny and for continued good health to our whole Celebrating Appalachia Family! I gotta try those cookies!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed this one 😀 I do hope to share our Thanksgiving. Matt has brought home turkeys but we've always eaten them before Thanksgiving since the season is in the spring 😀 We have cut our own tree, but not in many years. I hope to cut a little one for the kitchen this year 😀
Those cookies look really good! I’m gonna have to make those. Hope y’all have a great rest of the week. Hugs on the south east coast of Florida😎🦩🌞🦩😎 Thanks for sharing tipper
The cookies look so yummy. We bought your cookbook and love it. We live in Easley,SC and enjoyed meeting you and Corie in Hendersonville at the book signing. My husband pastors a church and the folks at our church enjoy your channel as well. We garden and have a small homestead. We grow butternut squash each year but haven’t tried the candy roasters and kushaw. We love growing vegetables we’ve never grown, so excited to try growing those two that we’ve never tried! Thank you so much for the great video! Love and prayers,
Miss tipper we have many things in common. We talk alike and eat the same good foods. I love your videos and you and Matt doing yard and garden work. God bless from the bootheel of Missouri.
I’ve been needing something fall-ish to eat, I’m going to have to get some pumpkin and make some cookies. #there_is_hope_for_cancer #this_is_the_day_that_the_lord_has_made #team_granny
This is one of my main issues: What to 'do' with them, how to keep them, how to process for later use. I love them, but it always seems they need to be eaten from fresh (with lots of butter and brown sugar, probably!) Cant' wait to see this!
It always amazes me what memories your videos drag up. When I was a little girl we had a dog named “Punkin”, she was orange 🍊 & I couldn’t say Pumpkin. I will have try those cookies now… 🧡🧡🧡🧡
First of all Tipper I have squash envy🙂 I usually soften them up in the oven then I cut them and take seeds out yesterday I had you on my tv while I made more pepper jelly I did bell peppers and hot pepper did not have as many peppers as you had put I figured it out mathematically and it came out perfectly my fourth time making pepper jelly thanks to you I do not can it just refrig I have butternut and I am going to make that recipe thanks again for sharing
My Mom used an ice jack (remember those metal ice cube trays?) to whack on a big old knife to cut up the winter squash at our house. Those cookies look delicious!
Those cookies look delicious! I love watching you cook! I'm from Indiana but my mother was from Laurel Springs NC. My grandma had a farm on Cranberry creek Rd and twice every year our vacation was heading for the mountains. Those trips and visits with my moms family were the high light of my whole life! I miss it dearly. But by watching you cook and can, especially your beans, it takes me right back to that place in my heart that I long for. I just turned 60 this year but if i could do it all over again I would have probably settled there. I still have some cousin's there and hopefully I'll be able to go visit again sometime ❤
I never heard of that squash but it looks beautiful. I make pumpkin spice cookies with cream cheese frosting. You are a hard working lasy, tipper! You got a lot done in a day! Bravo!
Love Punkin Cookies! I used to put cream cheese frosting between 2 cookies for sandwich cookies! Haven't made them in years! Got a garage table full of winter squash, just might have to make some for the grandkids!
Actually the freezing bursts the cells walls in any fruit or vegetable that has water in it. Sometimes you can use that to your advantage? Fruits and berries for instance will release their juice more easily when they are thawed if you want to make jelly or jam. In my experience with freezing the fibers stay intact while the rest turns to mush.
This makes sense why my challenged digestive system does best with fruits and veggies that have been frozen first. Whether cooked or used raw in a smoothie after they've been frozen, my tummy never struggles. But if I use pure raw, my ststem struggles. It can't seem to break down all that raw fiber. The exceptions to this would be right-off-the bush blueberries or very ripe peaches, inside only (skin too tough.) I'm glad I saw your comment.
I just, today, cooked and put in the freezer the winter squash out of the garden you inspired me to plant. I had a Cushaw, Butternut and Candy Roaster. That squash wasn’t long like yours. Then I had one that looked long like yours that I got at a farm market and it was called a banana squash at the market.
