To answer your question. No it automatically releases the web. I wanted control of holding onto the web or holding 2 webs at a time or being able to slingshot myself but those were the details you don't get.Honestly bro I still think it's hard for game developers to beat the spiderman 2 gameplay. Graphics and gameplay is still great but hopefully they do add some of those things

American Muscle 345 I have a few hours into this game now. And I'm impressed. Its the best Spidey game I've ever seen. Not even close. And my concern here hasn't been an issue. Spidey holds the line longer in some situations and shorter in others and it feels completely natural when he releases after a certain point. So its all good. Also I just unlocked the charged jumping skill and it works great! Really fun. You don't have the control over how much power you jump with as in spidey 2', BUT its better than spidey 2's at what it does do. And all the other stuff you can do. ESPECIALLY the web zipping and all the zip points that there are. There is no comparison. This is the best by far.

I completed the game yesterday, and unless you are holding forward on the left stick, as long as you hold r2 Spidey doesn’t release the web

it's odd and out of place, never seen that in a movie, now I would add that maybe from landing from a huge height, but not taking off. They should have done it like in Prototype, with the little music charge up sound, the dust cloud is over the top. I design indie games and you're always tweaking and removing gratuitous stuff like that.
