I often find that young Africans are under a lot of pressure to succeed. They are made very aware that there parents worked very hard to provide them with better opportunities and that they would be ungrateful if they don't succeed. Sometimes the level of pressure to succeed is possibly just a bit to much.

Very correct on Africans' perception of wealth and riches. We are inherently communally oriented hence individualistic accumulation of wealth ain't lifetime goal for many. Everybody is everyone's social safety net and in that set up, people are content with the basics they have. Anything extra apart from a roof over their head, enough food, clothing and tightnit community is just an extra! With capitalism and money economy though, you'll find individualistic accimulation of riches but in the long run, the concerned parties will always say "I'm doing it for my community"!

Oksalayo Black South Africans will rot in those apartheid-made human zoos called townships. SA being taken from you, while you cheer people who are here, to survive on the little opportunities meant to take you out of poverty. South Africans are lazy and stoopid indeed.

Thank you for making this video! I only wish you had called out specific countries by name because just using "Africa" a lot feeds into the same narrative that you've been fighting against. But that's no big deal overall. You're doing a good service because some people would not listen to me (they might call me "uppity" or make fun of my accent), might listen to YOU because you sound like them. Peace and love from Nigeria, USA, and now Colombia! 👋

Most of what you said wasn't surprising and I appreciated your truth and honesty. I can't stand it when Africa is referred to as one country. The "I travelled to Africa" line drives me crazy because where exactly did you go and appreciate about that country so I, as a South African, can be educated and intrigued too. BUT hearing that we SMELL? And fair enough, heartbreakingly I realise this most probably refers to black Africans, but being a white African it offends me too. Our Zimbabwean gardener smells after a hard day under the African sun, our isiXhosa cleaning lady smells after running through our house, my Portuguese-South African husband smells after fixing things around our home and I sometimes smell just from sitting on my butt behind a pc screen all day. And after we wash we all smell fresh again. I mean WHAT? SO disrespectful and surprising.

Great video. Y'all touched on all the misconceptions African Americans have about Africa. And those things are just not true. That's why it's so important to travel outside of the US. Because the US is not showing us a clear picture of the countries in Africa. I did not realize how the US commercials showed Africa on TV with babies that are hungry and never said what country they were in. It made you think that all of the babies on the African continent were hungry. And that's just not true. Every country has its poverty, including the US. Thanks for this video. I watched Wendy Williams show one time and she was speaking about Prince William's visit and possible relocation to Africa. The amount of ignorant nonsense she was saying was crazy and her audience was laughing and clapping. This video indicates most of the dumb BS I saw her pushing about the continent in her show. There's a lot of AA in YT who talks about these things. They aren't thumb sucking these things, Sista I appreciate the amount of time they take to educate our AA family and correct all false narratives
@e_serv6600
@e_serv6600 10 месяцев назад
@@tsilisomotaung9146 First, Wendy Williams is not a reliable source to validate your hypothesis . She is an entertainer, that is all. Second, America is big. Depending on the region it can shape your views regarding these misconceptions. I and those who I was around never spoke of such ignorance. The theory of expressing such misconceptions can be conveyed in a way of just educating, not labeling. These content creators cannot speak for the entire race nor can you off of one entertainer. The purpose of education is to inform and bring forth new perspectives. Feeding into stupid narratives is crazy. A “misconception” of Africans in my area is that Africans who come to the US are rich. There students will outwork us and so forth. Overall, this is my reality. Hope it’s helpful.

In my opinion, Afrika is indeed a country. Most of the national borders on the Continent were created by Europeans at the Berlin Conference. NONE of the current "Nations or Countries" are older than 70 years old, not even Ethiopia (It was Abyssinia prior to WWII) Ethiopia is a Greek word and was applied differently in ancient times than it is today. The U.S.A. has 50 very powerful STATES (Each governor has more power over their STATE, than the President has over the U.S.) I think this is the way that we need to start viewing the Continent in order to unify our minds and spirits and be more successful on the global stage. Let's focus on what we have in common more than we focus on our differences. Last note, Australia is BOTH a continent AND a country, so being a continent does NOT prevent a place from being a country. Peace and Love.

Another great video as always! Maybe the misconceptions Black Americans have about Africa stems from being privileged! I mean an ordinary Black American in the US is more privileged than an ordinary black African in any African country! For example ,We have situations where people just disappear off into the bushes or the grass,dug pits on the ground or a hole near running stream for sanitation purposes While in the US majority of Black Americans have flushable toilets for basic sanitation
@McQueenPress

I disagree about "privilege." Black Americans have established centuries of hard labor, suffering, and sacrifice for what they have even as the majority of their wealth was either taken and provided to others who didn't work for it or destroyed.

Average salary in Africa is 769 dollars a month. Think about that for a second. That's not even the median...

Not bad. Was a little surprised myself to see cities in Tanzania like what we have here is SA. Although yea it's true. We are educated... enough so to realize when you make silly statements like "stole our ancestors"... well sure I don't doubt some were indeed stolen... but in general and by a massive majority, slaves were bought from other Africans tribal leaders who enslaved the people from the other waring tribes. After all, it's not called a slave "trade" for nothing. Also, yea the whole thing about smell... well stink is after all a word to describe a smell that is not pleasant to the senses... so if something or someone stinks... well, they stink. That however is not something that is relevant to Africans only. Anyone can stink. But in truth the people who stink are generally those who either are too impoverished to be able to bath and wash clothes and buy deodorant, or those who just don't practice good hygiene. So don't be so offended.

I hate to be that guy but, contrary to popular belief about "being stolen", Africans sold each other as slaves like after winning a war, you'd sell the captives. Slavery was the biggest trade in Africa several centuries ago and Africa was actually at per with the world economically. Then industrial machines happened and the slave labor wasn't needed as much. Without any other relevant business to fall back on, the entire place started lagging behind. Its a whole untold side of history, with tons of literature on it.

Lol! I find it so funny that you guys think or have been told (even experienced ) we hate you because we think you hate us and are averse to Africans. I think most Africans don't hate you guys, we are just tired of the ignorance and the attitude that flows from that ignorance. So videos like this will go far in educating everyone.
