I always wonder if your parents are a big part of motivation. This and other people you like, like an identity based goal. If you always see people that have accomplished the things you are working towards... And part of you really doesn't ever want to... be like that, or associate to those qualities they have. Is that killing motivation? Also...when you hear that cliche line about being yourself, does this just mean being like your parents? Because that would be the first thing you ever were - (the first people you emulated) So being yourself would mean... be your parents... in place of emulating other people (because somehow the second option is the faker option)

00:00 Learning *how to learn is crucial; effective studying methods like active recall, spaced repetition, and others save time and improve learning outcomes.* 00:28 Studying *doesn't have to be solitary; forming study groups can make learning more enjoyable and energizing.* 01:54 Avoid *cramming; daily revision is more effective for long-term memory and a less stressful approach to studying.* 06:14 Don't *limit career options solely based on your degree; focus on the life you want and seek careers aligning with that vision.* 07:55 Utilize *free time efficiently; develop skills beyond academics that align with your aspirations and career goals.* 11:26 Value *your health during your student years; establish healthy habits early, as they're foundational for a fulfilling and successful life.* 13:48 Maintain *an experimental mindset; don't limit experiences based on their immediate benefits or CV appeal, but rather explore various opportunities for personal growth and discovery.*

Starting off strong with banger advice, Ali! "if you haven't yet taken the time to learn how to learn you are profoundly shooting yourself in the foot". Your learning approach is the very base that your studying stands on. If that's not effective, you've kind of failed before even starting.

Why is everyone saying you have so much free time as a student? We have 38 fifty minute lessons plus on average one exam every week plus need to write laboratory protocols every other week plus some other homework. How on earth would a 40h job leave you with less free time?

Good advice Ali. I’m studying a masters degree now 20 years after starting my first degree, and to be honest, unis are much better nowadays at teaching effective studying techniques (based on my sample of two). One of the revelations for me is making sure you know why you’re taking notes because that will affect how you take them. So putting together notes for an essay or dissertation will be very different to writing notes to help you revise for an exam.

Yeah, the last point makes more sense to me. In a way, I am pursuing a mechanical engineer, But i have always had a curiosity to experience all the things in college. I like watching lots and lots of TV shows, movies,anime and also I play games and i read books and try to experiment all in the learning part also,like learning how to code, and UI design and graphic design all of that. Try to experience as much as I can. Because who knows what my life after college will be. So i try to enjoy myself as well as learning something new.

#7 is VERY realistic, don’t relate your career to your favorite hobbies because doing it x amount of hours a week will kill the fun very quickly. Took auto collision & after graduating with an associates, working in a shop for a few weeks I quickly found out this is not where I wanted to be. Expand your horizons!!

00:01 Not learning how to learn is a common mistake made by students 01:33 Studying is more enjoyable when done with friends. 03:02 Studying together in a group can be more energizing and productive. 04:29 Regular, consistent studying is more efficient than cramming 05:56 Narrowing career choices based on degree 07:20 Consider career choices that align with your desired life 08:50 Self-taught web design and development skills proved valuable in medical career and business ventures. 10:12 Health is undervalued by students 11:38 Taking care of your health as a student is crucial for long-term well-being. 13:02 Students should adopt an experimental mindset in their approach to career and life. 14:32 Approach student life with lightness and an experimental attitude 16:01 Take an experimental approach to your career and life.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:28 Not *learning how to learn is a significant mistake; understanding evidence-based study methods like active recall, spaced repetition, interleaving, and categorizing can save time and reduce stress.* 02:37 Viewing *studying as a multiplayer game with friends can make the experience more enjoyable and energizing, transforming your overall academic journey.* 04:32 Avoid *cramming for exams; establishing a habit of consistent, daily revision is more efficient, enhances memory, and benefits long-term retention.* 06:57 Rather *than limiting career choices based on your degree, consider what kind of life you want and then reverse engineer your career choices accordingly.* 08:22 Make *the most of your free time as a student by learning new skills that align with your interests and can contribute to your future career.* 11:26 Recognize *the value of your health as a student; establish healthy habits early on, as they lay the foundation for a fulfilling and productive life.* 14:57 Adopt *an experimental mindset in your career and life; don't be overly fixed in your approach, but instead view trying new things as valuable life experiences and opportunities for self-discovery.* Made with HARPA AI

Thats what we call the out of box thinking. Everything you talk about in this video was making sense to the approach i want to follow in my life. I was so ridiculously confused. This kind of attitude and approach actually helps you do the stuff you love rather than sticking to one single path. One must not stop experimenting in his/her life , because thats what will make them ahead of others. Thankyou so much❤ . Would love to listen more from you regarding life , careers and other things.

I relate sooooo much to how parents are way more risk averse. I really wanted to try and experiment certain things but they would just tell me "focus on your grades" So right now im learning these things in secret (i have a feeling they will absolutely destroy me if they found out) Might try web design soon. To anyone who's like me, just do it if you know you really want to try and if its in secret like me, just be prepared for if whoever it is finds out. All the best to everyone out there ❤❤❤ Edit: who knew my typimg is so bad

@hassansarosh62
@hassansarosh62 3 месяца назад
I doubt you want or need the answer now. But one of those watches (left wrist) is an apple watch ultra that has excellent integration with I phone and notifications and emails and can even control smart lights or appliances in the house. So it's a really good smartwatch. And the thing on his right wrist is a dedicated fitness tracker, even though the apple watch does that stuff pretty accurately too, that tracker is more accurate and gives a greater level of insight into your activity, a lot of athletes prefer it over any smartwatch as well.

Thank you for these insights, Ali! These tips were really helpful.. Personally, I found the practising experimental mindset interesting and helpful for me because I often get trapped into this mindset that I can't excel in things that I have never done before or I don't have any relevant skills. I will push myself out of my comfort zone, and start experimenting on different things that I am interested in after this. Being a final-year student, I think it's not too late yet to start right Ali? Because I believe learning is a life-long process and as you said now is the best time to start anything we would like to do. Keep producing more good content like this, Ali! Really missed your content on this channel. Thank you for giving an amazing comeback after a few weeks!

{ Active Recall, Spaced Repetition, Interleaving, Categorizing }, with the exception of categorizing, the mentioned are methods for studying, with the aim of doing well in exam. I am not pooh-poohing these type of methods for I had used them myself to a certain a degree of success in the past. What happened when there is no more exams? Then the aim and the set of methods would be different. It would still be learning (docteorum) but not studying (studeonum) anymore. Since this video is about learning to learn, I felt that a lot could be said; however, most would be detrimental to a student's outcome. The facts are: i. The biggest problem is temporal motivation. If motivation is not a problem, any one can just start read, do exercises, repeat ad finem, and perform well in exams. Not that the art of learning itself does not deal with the human psyche, it does. However, if the aim of studying is to do less work, well the subconscious mind would like you to know that you are already achieving that by having less motivation. ii. Some objectives of higher education are things unmentioned: One of the aim of higher education is to foster the young to have the mindset and rational of a certain type. Different people, different opinion on what this is. Indeed, an education institution is mostly ideals-motivated. I once joked that if there were any school 100% focused on the practical, it would be a crime syndicate. Still, the art of learning also have to involve studying the art of teaching and specifically on what are the limitations imposed and the mindsets entangled into the mind of students. iii. Learning experiences cannot be quantified: Perhaps the more you learn, the more your outlook will change. Perhaps now, you think you are just picking up stones. However, one day you may discover the sling and you will find that every stone has the word "lethal" written on it.

Take courses that you love. If you can read the text book like a novel, do but that’s worthless! 2. Use competence based knowledge towards your study. Even medical students - you have been patients use your experience as a patient as your study motivator and the same with other courses. Don’t force understanding - change it to applying your human experiences. Example 2. During raining seasons - as an engineering student my nephew used the flood paths and historical issues of flooding to guide his discovery journey with his course work. It worked.
