Honestly I think my favorite part of Bird Box is when Tom is able to fight off the effect of the creatures long enough to kill the last cultist in order to protect Malorie and the children. I thought it was really touching to see how strong he was when he needed to protect those he loved.

That is exactly what I was thinking. When I saw the images that were released about the "creature", I was thinking about how she showed how obvious it was she was not fully ready or wanting her baby. So, when they said the scene that was deleted included where she saw it in her dream, that made me also thing about what Charley said. And how it takes over your deepest fear or emotion. So, her deepest emotion/fear, was that baby that she was supposed to give birth to. I mean, its obviously just a theory but, it seems to click.

I thought the single syllable names 'boy' and 'girl' was clever given the necessity for urgency in getting the childrens attention. It would have taken valuble time if the kids were for example 'Alexander' and 'Cynthia-Rose' Found this movie to be super suspenseful, heightened by not seeing the monsters. Once you see the interpretation of a monster in a movie it looses its edge. I find bad people in horror movies are more scary than monsters. I think thats why this seems so frightening to me. It is the people doing terrible things element, easier to imagine than actual monsters. Movies like this though leave me thinking, whats the point in trying to survive it? Just to be left locked up and fearful of the outside. What kind of life would that be?

The monster did call their names and tried to get them to take the blind fold off she didn't want to name them so she wouldn't get attached to them incase the monster tried to take them away because once they were safe she named them

One of the things that made the movie work so well was never showing the "creatures". What many print authors have learned of the years is the reader's imagination will create visiages more horrible than any the author can describe. The things you can't see will always be more frightening than the things you can see...hence our fear of the dark. Wonderful film and Sandra Bullock's opening monologue is my favorite from anything she's done.

Gary has extremely well fitted suit on him. It's hard to assume he is one of the mental hospital patients who escaped (they would wear hospital clothes or randomly picked clothes). He more likely fits into description of a psycho yard doctor who went insane (or always was). It could explain him having drawings of different versions of monster as his patients described it to him.

Jordan B. Yeeterson Firstly, I think all animals detect the creatures, as shown with the horse running in the beginning. It’s just that since the birds are in the cage, they are unable to go free and fly away so they chirp and move around in a way of trying to go free but the humans don’t get that and thinks the attitude of the bird is useful for their survival. As for the entering of buildings (not sure but maybe) the creatures come with the wind or ‘light’ from outside and as there is no natural wind in the house it is unable to manifest. This is my opinion not sure though

@@humanrays well animals can feel when an earthquake, storm or something bad is coming, so they can feel the entity, also in the books animals are also affected by the beings even though in the movie we never see an animal see one of them. Also, in the ending, the school for the blind in the book one of those things enters and starts wreaking havoc and making people go insane left and right, until people started making themselves blind to counter the entities.

I thought the entire movie was metaphorical and had to do with various forms of mental illness. Sandra Bullock's character had postnatal depression (or perhaps an anxiety disorder due to her feelings about giving birth), the black army guy had PTSD, John Malkovich's character was in a mourning period etc. I also thought that's why Sandra only encountered her doctor after she had gone through a personal odyssey and also why everyone there was blind, because metaphorically they were all unable to see their way through their own journeys as well. Everyone who was stubborn in the movie who tried to face their demons on their own subsequently died, which to me was saying we all need to reach out and get help if we're encountering obstacles in life that are too big for one person to tackle by themselves. I haven't figured out what the birds mean yet but I think it might have something to do being appreciative of the small things in life and how they can make you happy, hence why the demons couldn't thrive in an environment where there was an overabundance of happiness or joy.

It was actually Greg's house (the guy who saw the creatures via the cameras), not Douglas's. It is explicitly stated at the beginning. Greg lets Tom and Malorie in the house despite Douglas's objections, saying "I'm sorry, it's my house." It's quite interesting that you noticed so many detailes including the two dead bodies being that couple and the painting (good job btw), but you missed such an obvious thing. But it's a good video, I especially like the theory about a connection between the events and the painting.

I remember thinking the paintings were a device for foreshadowing because they focused on it so much (usually it's a writer's writings) so I paid attention to the one they focused on and feelings of "isolation" and "disconnection" but hadn't been able to see the others so I didn't note them. Those were also very good additions to the discussion! I'm very curious now to look at the characters in that first painting more specifically.

I’d love to see a sequel surrounding Felix and Lucy living,their journey to get there and how leaving was a good decision,then reuniting with Malorie I think it would make a great gateway for a part 2!

That's what the critter was supposed to look like? Not scary at all. I imagined something way scarier. Oh well. If they had shown it the people complaining "we wanna see the monsters!" would have found something else to complain about. You can't please everyone.

perhaps to melanie the monster would have look like a strange fat baby in the nightmare because of her fear/rejection about maternity, idk, they said the entity would take the form of one's biggest fear or sadness

Madcat4301 i thought gary hadnt seen the monsters yet but that he drew sketches because thats what his friends had told him... then he escaped and looking at those sketches he couldnt resist actually looking at them but maybe this doesnt make sense

So, in the Gnostic Gospels (Nag Hamaadi) it's written at one point that God took the Nephilim back and removed their physical forms so all of creation would see the horror of their souls. He then locks them away into the Earth, until Judgement Day, when they would be released to mark the courageous and the cowardly. It sounds kind of like them.

Not kind of, exactly! End of days are upon us. The "painting" discussed is a depiction of verses out of Revelations... No such thing as coincidence. Satan's slaves know very well what is coming.
