Peru definitely is an amazing country. You can find everything there, any adventure, wonder of the world Machu Picchu; culture, exotic paradise in the jungle; Amazon river; wildlife; mountains; deserts, beaches; dunes ; oasis; snow to Ski, nice people; an the most delicious and vary gastronomy in the world.
Most authentic Peruvian restaurants don’t marinate the fish in 3 or 4 hours. That’s erroneous information (maybe like 20 years ago, some restaurants used to do that to appease tourists’ minds). In reality, most Peruvian restaurants just let the fish marinate in the juice for a a few minutes, so as to not kill the freshness. In today’s restaurant standards in Peru, the fresher the fish is served (a la sushi style), the better. It’s tastes less funky and more delicious this way to them.
Will Olaguibel, different strokes for different folks, but most Peruvians in Peru prepare ceviche the instant way. A few minutes with lime and it’s done.
What you called "pico de gallo" when you were eating the Causa, it's called Sarsa Criolla. We don't use Pico de Gallo in our food. Great video and very informative.
WRONG! You don't marinade the fish in lime juice for 5 HOURS. COMPLETELY WRONG. Cebiche only takes a few minutes to marinade in lime juice and then is ready to eat.
murd777 as you can see in the comments below I got the info from a waiter and I found out that info was wrong. I’m learning as I go just like anyone else who’s not had it before. I hope you enjoyed the video

The Guinea Pig is not a special occasion dish it’s a dish that mostly is seen and eaten in Cuzco, Pucallpa, the indigenous people eat it mostly. But you do see it in some places in the city Of Lima.
Hi Michael, the Peruvian red onion relish is called sarza criolla. It is not the same as the Mexican pico de gallo. I am really glad you came to Peru and enjoyed traveling freely before the pandemic. Stay safe, and come back soon.
Michael, I love this video ... not because I am Peruvian, well if I let myself be influenced a little😅, but I like how nice it can be for foreigners to try fruits and foods that perhaps in their countries do not exist and see The reaction in their Faces That tastes great. Well I tell you something, I ate the guinea pig and you're right, it is prepared on special dates. For me it tastes good, but I think it's a matter of getting used to it, I know people who don't like it, I don't know if you would eat. well I loved your video is informative so people know what to eat, I feel proud that they name Peru ''gastronomic capital ''and it is for all this and much more ... greetings and keep up with your videos that are excellent and I guess that until now you will have learned some magic trick 😅😁
Jocelyne Garay Baldeon thanks very much for your nice comment! Your country has so much good food! Haha I havnt been taught magic yet, but I’ve seen a lot of it :) it’s really cool!
So easy on the eye, you have amazing clarity with you visuals. And perfect voice. Peru is fascinating. Thank you Michael,,,and nice to see Cody again. 🌺🌺🌺👍👍👍
GUINEA PIG was FIRST, *INICIALLY* FOOD. It was like rabbits or little pigs that were food and NOWADAYS they're considered like Pets ? I don't understand why People feel bizarre or unconfortable eating Guinea Pigs. C'mon! they're cute, I know that but they're NOT rats exactly ! and Foreigners doesn't know that.
PERU is not just lima you sure go cost, sierra and amazon south and north a lot to see to eat and enjoy and when you try ceviche you do piece of fish, onion, corn and some juice all together wich is leche de tigre do it with spoon my brother.
James Gonzales thank you! I did go to Cusco, Ica, Puno, Amazon, Ariquipa and a couple other places, peru was amazing 😊 And yes leche de Tigre was very good!
@@AffinityAdventure Next time if you come back let me be your guide dude Iam in little north HUACHO is like 3 hours from lima it call norte chico a lot to see my brother see you god bless
me as a 3 year old watching this video until the guinea pig clip: why they eat the guinea pig ? :( People: *cooks guinea pig cutely* Guinea pig: why u bullyin me?
I like your video but is not accurate, ceviche is not marinated for that much time, only a couple of minutes tops!. And guinea pig is eaten all over the country in a daily basis not just weddings or special events. There are in every city many restaurants which are specialized in guinea pig and is cooked in many many ways.
OMG, why you call “alien fruit” to our Granadilla?...we never chew seeds of Granadilla, we only swallow it that tasty and sweet fruit! In the other hand, we never marinade for 3 or 4 hours 😱😱, that’s wrong, it only takes few minutes to cook fish with lemon juice to make a delicious Ceviche!!
I meant it as a nice thing not bad :) They look like little alien eggs in a movie, and one of our tour guides said some people call them Granadilla. Our tour guide also told us to try chewing the seeds. I enjoyed both, Peru was great! :)
Miguel Fernandez yes true about the ceviche as well. :) If you check the other comments you can see we’ve been over that. The waiter gave me the wrong info. I can only share what locals tell me, sometimes it’s wrong :)
My friend sorry to say this but our ceviche dont get cook hours on lime...actually we serve few mins after we serve it...its more like sushi...have a great time in here! 🤙🏻
@@AffinityAdventure of course its a great video!! Hope u have an amazin time in peru my friend..i know its kind of shocking eat guinea pig but it taste like the rabbit in france. U must try aji de gallina and lomo saltado...have fun my friend.
hugh neumann no, it’s not at all. As a Peruvian eating ceviche for 50 years i can say that marinating fish for a couple of minutes is a very recent trend. We have always marinated our fish for over 20 minutes.
@@MBT372 my friend trust me i was chef in segundo muelle. At least the traditional ceviche is at the moment...not marinated..if u see gourmet channel ,search maestros del ceviche u will see..😉
they let the fish marinate in lemon for 3-5 hours..... what? no they dont its quick more like 5 to 10 mins i dont know what they told you but thats not correct.
Was really funny trying peruvian fruits, the first to do is ask how to eat that fruits, granada and granadilla = never bite the seed, only taste the sweetness part of the fruit, but the better part of a travel is ask and show the people that you are prepare for a Journey.
Great video Michael. You can almost taste the foods as you describe them so well. Taste Peru indeed. Peru offers so much for the traveller. You are enticing people to visit for sure in this video and your top 20 countries in 2020. Very informative, great vibe, fun and so well put together. Thanks for sharing your travels!! Great work. Love your thumbnail too!
About the Rocoto, let me explain you what happened, Cody explained it was a Pepper, right? WRONG! That is a ROCOTO, it looks like a Pepper, but is much stronger and it has a different flavor, they even came from different kind of plants. The Rocoto is more like a kind of AJÍ (for peruvians) or Chile (for mexicans)
SARZA CRIOLLA...No Pico de gallo. Ceviche Peruano. Cooked in Lime juice (no stove) Causa: potatoes seasoned with ají amarillo, lime, oil, salt and pepper + filling with chicken or Tuna. Is not "chili, is AJÍ"...Ají amarillo, ají Limo, ají Rocoto, etc. Coast, Mountain and jungle...huge food diversity, races, weather, and customs. Quinoa is a SUPER FOOD. Thank you 🌷

For cebiche, fish is not marinated for 3-5 hours! It's just a couple of minutes!!! Other than that, you gave a generally accurate description of Peruvian food. I loved your video!!!
Ceviche is made with fresh fish and cook with Lime but NOT MARINATED FOR 3-4 HOURS 😐it is eaten as soon as all the ingredients are mix together and you don't wait for the Lime to cook the fish for that long...it wouldn't taste good. Ceviche is the best in Perú and eat it fresh.
Jerson Sanchez interesting, most ppl were telling me that you’re suppose to eat them. I guess different preferences across Peru! Thanks for watching. I had a great time in Peru!
As much as this video is well made, with great narration, good rythm, good editing and post prod, we can see the importance of a good guide that will tell you the right stuff without sugar coating it. There's a lot of comments with the corrections. Hope you get better and truthful guides and good information on your other trips. Nice video!
Eating Guinea Pig as a sign of affluence is a bit of a stretch. I would just say that they'd be eaten for dinner, and can also be served for special dinners. If it was a sign of affluence, my family en la sierra (the mountain region) would be seen as mightely rich people. They are rich in life, but not monetarily. But I am soo jealous of the food you're eating right now. Madd good vid!
Did you eat el juane?? It's a traditional dish in the jungle. I can't wait to go back to my motherland and eat like a queen!! Ahhh good video thanks for sharing and appreciating the gastronomy of my dear Peru🇵🇪❤
Thanks for introducing Peruvian food 🍴🇵🇪😋 I am Korean but I can say Peruvian food is the best! My husband is from Peru he cooks all of those food👍👍 but he's not a cook😁 I just got to know your channel, I like your videos 😊
Thanks very much im happy you liked it! Peruvian and Korean food are both amazing. Last time I was in Seoul I tried these really thick and short street noodles. I cant remember what they were called but they were amazing haha! So many more videos coming 😊
I dont think Peruvians marinate their fish for hours. When we make ceviche we eat right then and there. Also the guy talking about cevochr is not Peruvian lol he's actually Argentinian
one correction "el ceviche" is never marinaded in lime juice 3 to 5 hours, that is false, it is actually made fresh at the moment always, if someone told you that clearly doesn't know what a ceviche is.
Actually, they don't marinate the fish for those hours, if they did that ... the fish would be parboiled, adding the lemon will take it directly to your table
