From the Depths is a super deep naval warfare game with a long campaign. The learning curve is very steep since you build your ship from scratch but seeing your baby blast the hell out of the enemy is truly satisfying. You can also build airships, airplanes and even tanks.
Definitely another good game! You can spend so much time to get the missile or shell *just* right for the target that you're facing. The survival mode was also a lot of fun :)
Gotta say War on the Sea has been incredible and eaten up a large part of my free time playing. The campaigns have been a blast and there's a ton of value with mods.
UBOAT is a great game and actually is an underrated gem. The unstable beta branch (of the early access overall, very close to full release) is regularly adding many fixes and features the community wants, and is active with the community. I honestly think it will be among one of the best sub sims we will get, especially for a unmodded vanilla game, at launch. Even in early access there have been a ton of mods and it seems the devs support it. And if you don't like early access they have a deadline they are fast approaching for the full 1.0 release. Also it has a decent tutorial and lots of options to go from full "I do it all myself" realism to more casual play letting your crew do calculations and work as you manage the overall picture.
Battlestations Midway is a good choice, but I would rather recommend Battlestations Pacific. The setup might be a bit tricky because it uses games for Windows Live but when you have it working it is such a blast to play the US and IJN Campaign and get all missions golded and receive new units. The various Missions and game modes it has are also a lot of fun against the AI. Additionally there are quite a mods which are quite nice.
The sequel to Cold Waters should be out soon. It's called Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age. If you want to practice the controls and functions prior to its release I recommend Cold Waters. I have over 600 hrs in this game and don't regret a minute of it.
It's not a sequel to Cold Waters. That would imply it's another sub sim and sub sim only. Sea Power is going to be closer to old Janes Fleet Command where you can control all naval assets, not just attack subs.
@@stab74 It is a sub sim too. They just added sea and air assets. They even touted it as its sequel. But then I guess you know better than the developers what it is.
@@gutstompenrocker You don't know what a sequel is then. If anything, it's a sequel to Janes Fleet Command or Harpoon. How you can't see the difference between a DEDICATED SUB SIM where you can only control ONE sub and real time strategic simulator where you can control whole fleets and several different unit types is beyond me. But, I guess you know better than everyone else on the planet who's been playing wargames for 40 years, and, who knows what the word "sequel" means.
One thing missing: Rule The Waves 3 !! Its currently at 35% off and ultimate admiral kinda took the core idea oif this game, stripped down a lot of aspects and then put 3D. But dont be afraid of the visuals of RtW3, its an amazing game with such depth that you can get lost in it deisgning ships and organizing your force.
Rule the Waves 3 is a great game, provides a wide range of periods from 1895 to the 1960s allowing you to go from predreadnoughts through to missile boats and jet fighters. I'd say it trades graphics for gameplay when compared to ultimate admiral.
I get you and in the same time i don't. I do love RTW, but without visual... once you play admiral dreadnought you can't go back.. i can't myself at least.
CMO seems neat. Don't have nearly enough time on my hands to actually figure it out but I'll check it out. Seems like a timeless game even playable a decade from now
Out of all these, command modern operations is by far the best. I have 1100 hours on it, and unlike 99% of these, it actually teaches you real life warfare, and even the military uses it.
Something I personally recommend if you're into sailing And want to pretend to be A merchant, The game sailwind, It's got three different nations you can start as I don't remember the endgame names for them but it's basically Egypt where you start with Adele China where you start with a small junk or Europe where you start with a caravelle type ship It takes some time to learn how to sail but once you get it down, it's a very relaxing and fun game, except when you're in a tiny sailboat in the storm comes
The inclusion of Command Modern Operations should mention that the small 3d window is a paid 3rd party add on, Tacview. The vanilla game does not include any such viewing option, since it's really a map based milsim, a version of which was used by the US to game out a possible US-Chinese conflict over Taiwan. DCS players will already be familiar with Tacview, regular Joe Gamer may not.
Barotrauma is now on sale for about 14.49 US dollars and 17.49 EURO that is -50% off from it's standard price. Personaly I love this game, you take on lead of submarine on Europe (one of Jupiter's moon) and you fight various monsters in the depths. You play as one of crew members on that submarine captain, engineer, electrician, doctor or security officer on one of many, many submarines you can find in that game or in steam workshop. Of course you can play with friends, randoms or bots up to I believe 16 players, game is really fun to play and I strongly reccomend it to try, even through it's not standard naval game as games mentioned in this video.
Battlestations Pacific and Midway were my golden years, I had them for the xbox 360, it was the most fun I could do, I'm so sad the studio went bankrupt
I never thanked you for introducing me to Starsector a few months ago. You should try another play through, but just the main quest, and not make it a tutorial series. Thank you for the introduction to it!
Another game I would recommend for people would be Carrier Command 2, very fun game that can be played either casually or hardcore, it's a modern/sc-fi naval game where you are in control of an automated carrier and is absolutely fantastic with friends with quite a lot of mod support to tweak the game to your liking.
Seeing BattleStations Midway in a 2024 video really surprised me. Though i never played midway i loved the hell out of its successor (Battlestations pacific) It's definitely one of my top five favorite games and imo super underrated. I highly recommend it though square Enix (or Microsoft i dont remember) took it outback and shot it with the 12 gauge so you cant get it on steam anymore(or at all on pc idk), but i still get on my xbox to play from time to time
Another pretty interesting game for those who enjoy ultimate admiral dreadnoughts is rules the waves 3. Despite the extremely minimalistic interface and the excel style, the game is extremely deep and interesting
Battlestations Pacific should be noted as having been pulled off of Steam "Temporarily" by Square Enix for "improvements" what improvements would be worth on a such a old title is debatable but it should be at least noted.
Nebulous: Fleet Command is worth a mention as well. It's set in space, but it plays just like a 3D naval game. It has customisable ships and fleets with systems that are familiar to players of other sim games (C3, EW, missiles and missile defense, etc.)
Battle Stations: Pacific Is not purchasable and will not work, the devs have shut it down entirely. However, battle stations: Midway still works just fine.
Carrier command 2 puts you in control of an aircraft carrier commanding drone planes and amphibious vehicles to combat an enemy ai carrier or your friends carrier and you capture islands to unlock new parts and ammunition. You can play with up to 16 other people all on one carrier or multiple
On my first campaign of Cold waters. Right at the end of the easier campaign i got the final enemy to shoot and sink itself with a decoy torpedo. It was Hilarious
The Battlestations midway campaign is great, but i'd recommend Battlestations Pacific due to the improved graphics, gameplay and damage model. But just play both. They are absolutely worth it.
Wolfpack is for the mkst hardened sub players. The amount of milsim in wolfpack has a very steep learning curve. The multiplayer is amazing but sometimes you can spend actual hours before engaging an enemy. There's different stations like real life, and you have to learn how it works. Its like DCS for subs.
I bought 3 naval games in the Steam summer sale: Destroyer: U Boat Hunter, War on the Sea, and Carrier Survival. Of these, I’m having the most fun with Destroyer. It’s actually encouraged me to listen to audiobooks on convoys. But War on the Sea which seems to have a similar interface to Cold Waters also seems promising, once I get through the plethora of rather dense, dry tutorials. Carrier Survival seems a bit gamey and repetitive. I also need to give Atlantic Fleet another go, which is like War on the Sea but turn-based.
I hate how war on the sea kicks you in the balls and gives the AI so many advantages when you can have so few ships at times but its overall really fun and i sunk way too many hours into that, definitely a game worth atleast a honorable mention
battlestations:Pacific is no longer on steam sadly but i did see a note form the dev team that says "Square Enix has temporarily removed this title from sale to work on some important updates. Please check back soon!" im not sure if they will bring it back cause i do know the only downside to it currently was "windows with gold" witch is no longer around sooo i do hope they bring it back cause ill love to play it again with friends and conduct nice PVP or PVE fun!!!!
Wolfpack. Second World War Uboat simulator. Getting a torpedo to hit a target is a major accomplishment as it requires substantial effort and possibly a calculator or pencil and paper. Where it stands out from Cold Waters is the player controls a character and has to learn the actual controls. In short Wolfpack is DCS:Uboat.
Playing a bit Victory at Sea Atlantic. Even if it is in early access you can have fun with it and they just released the Axis campaign, so seeing what is new :D
Battlestations Midway IMBSC Mod is Japanese but the game only has US Campagin if you parents doesnt allow that then use battlestations pacific cause it has japanese empire and Missions,Ships, and even multiplayer its nice
There are new BF, CoD, AC or FC games nearly every year, but good new singleplayer naval games are pretty rare. It's a shame. To me, Battlestations is yet unbeaten.
I can see it on steam. Battlestations: Midway for 0,97€ instead of 6,99€. Maybe it's not available in all regions? But this video was about the Steam Summer Sale, so I think it wasn't referring to any console versions.
@@Coldeagle27 I assume they are asking about the battlestations pacific which you can look at but it's unavailable where as midway is available, hence my response about pacific probably still being available on console.
I like most of the games you have shown to us in this video. But to be honest, I miss one big game (well, for me it is a big game, because I love it 😉). Where is "War on the sea"?
Because I had to stop somewhere. Including War on the Sea would then have people ask "Where's From the Depths?". The next is going to ask "Where is Rule the Waves?". The next is "Where is Atlantic Fleet?". With that level of scope creep I'd have a 60 minute video describing every naval game out there.
@@Stealth17Gaming Well... I wouldn't mind :-P But of cours, with a more serious look on it, I see and understand the problem. Thank you for your answer. Hmmm... maybe next time you try to make a video with 17 Naval Games... :-D
Sadly can't buy the better Battlestations Pacific on Steam anymore. Publisher took it down for sale although I'm hopeful it's to actually fix some parts of it due to the message on the page. Otherwise some solid recommendations, shame I own 3 out of 7 already lol
@@Stealth17Gaming Yep, the game not suitable for me 😁. I just buy it from the steam and after 16 minutes fiddling here and there, I decided to refund it. How about Command Modern Operation? Is it more complex than the Rule the Waves 3?
@@midgarstrife914 It's different. Same type of strategic view. No own building of ships as far as I know. You could get it, try it and refund if don't like it
Just bought Battlestations Midway wich is fun to play. There are some nice mods to. But i want to buy Battlestations Pacific to. Wich is not availble on the market....
@@Stealth17Gaming As far as I know there aren't any and it's a shame really. I know it's a niche idea and in all likelihood you'd have to incorporate it into a wider sim to draw interest. Off of the top of my head it would probably have to be staged in a relatively large open world map covering a coastal area. I imagine it would then need to incorporate coast guard along with other emergency services and perhaps even it to other areas such as logistics.
@@FreeFragUK Sounds like you're describing the missions that Stormworks has. It tends to be a lot of fetch quests in Stormworks though - go here, pick up people, come back.
Boat games! Boat games! Boat games! If I'm starting out learning from scratch, would you recommend UAD? I've been watching you play it for a long time, and finally have a computer that can run it.
I got Uboat for 10 bucks and i feel like i ripped off the devs and that's knowing the publisher is Playway... I never did get into sh3 due to its harsh save system and EAs hissyfit taking its games off steam, but I have put in a few hours in Dangerous Waters. I felt cold waters a bit flat and simplistic. Being able to take my uboat in... uboat, anywhere and do an acoustic check or even tune in a (admittedly repetitive) radio station. Makes it feel like i'm really in command of a vessel. Feels legit when I sniff out a target and do my own TMA to determine course and then ambush them. I did need youtuber Lite_ly salted's newer video on angle on bow to figure out the targeting direction tool was a toggle and that I was figuring out ownship angle relative to Target Ships Perspective - A tad counter intuitive but probably how it worked.) The cargo management adds a aspect often overlooked in games - since the age of sail a ships travel distance was limited to what it could carry. I got War on the Sea after seeing another friend who loves ships with 124 hours in it.
Battlestations midway and battleststions pacific are awesome games. Sadly i never got the dlcs for pacific. Was only for xbox or because Microsoft live or what it was called for pc was closed -.- . Want the maps and the yamato with 510mm guns xhwzurjrhdakjsdufs
I personally can't recommend folks to buy Stormworks due to the poor net code for multiplayer, the lacklustre content updates, the over priced and poorly expanded upon DLC and the frustrating mechanic of the game at times such as aircraft and tank tread based vehicles. Whilst it has arguably the best editor for detailed crafts and the micro controller editor is not only its best technical feature but also the best when it comes to similar customizable vehicle function interactions, this game is very much a case of harsh learning curves, one time satisfaction projects and battling its confusing physics engine. If you do enjoy games like this then by all means enjoy it but after enduring over 1000 hours of playing this game, I can't recommend it to casual fans who enjoy games where you make your own custom vehicle for whatever purpose and play it, mostly in part due to the developers being effective amateurs in how they operate and provide content from ignoring community complaints and feedback, clearly not tested new updates or "Major updates" that don't function properly and minimal updates providing only a few fixes over a 2 week span.
Back when I played it I did notice the major updates having gamebreaking issues with them. I really loved Stormworks. Played it a lot. When they started adding weapons I felt the game betrayed its core of search and rescue. If it were up to me I would have loved if the devs stuck to that core and made more missions, more scenarios and a smoother multiplayer experience. Being able to build bigger craft and helicopters is great, but you can't really do everything alone.
@@Stealth17Gaming Honestly I was fine with them adding weapons since a lot of the community are young folks who enjoy playing about with workshop stuff or enjoy blowing stuff up compared to the other half of the community either being techno wizards and making insanely functional stuff or people who are really good at modelling in game. My biggest gripe though is the lack of replay value, beyond micro controllers and lua, a lot of the mechanics have very little depth to them, a lot of variety to explore different mechanics that partly meld together but very little depth to them in terms of exploration and optimization of design, making the complexity of the game not very rewarding after trying to learn it compared to say something like From the Depths. Personally the game is a great game to model stuff in high detail and if you can get it to work, even better and Microcontrollers are fun and a encouraging way to learn Lua, logic gates and to a degree, simple computer architecture, however the poor communication from the developers, lack luster updates, disappointing DLC that never gets touched on again, "Major updates" being broken on launch and overall, a very frustrating game at times to work with and enjoy, is why I don't recommend the game for people enjoy sandbox vehicle editors. Also nice to hear from you man, been loving your content for ages.
Uboat is the only good one on this list. War at Sea (recommended in comments) seems interesting so I'll add it. The only other naval games I'm playing are Sea of Thieves and Carrier Command 2, which are both fantastic. I guess Foxhole kinda is navy too, which is also my #1 game right now: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W_X2TcrDBqY.html
