and i’m glad about it. For one, the interior of the capital one arena is not bad or ugly i don’t understand what this guy is talking about. for two, i want DC teams to be IN DC!!! tired of this effort to move teams out of the city. that’s not how it’s supposed to be
@@nicksapio2557 Completely agree. Just went to Capital One arena for my first time at the end of March, and I thought the arena was adequate. Most people can live in homes older than 30 years old. Not sure why sports venues need to be younger than 30 years old. Happy the Wizards Capitals and DC came to an agreement.
The NBA has held the All Star game in New Orleans 3 times in less than 10 years. The NBA could care less what the arena looks like aesthetically. The Superdome is 50 years old. New Orleans is a major tourist attraction. They don’t need new stadiums to attract major sports events.
He also fails to recognize that some venues have storied histories and are legendary valued community treasures. Do Chiefs fans really care about Wi-Fi at Arrowhead Stadium? Do Jazz fans sit at Jazz games thinking “I wish the Delta Center could fit a hockey rink inside of it?”
Wells Fargo just made a bunch of renovations. The Flyers are going nowhere. The Sixers want their own arena in downtown. The Flyers would not play there. There are plans to develop the Philly sports complex in south Philly with hotels, shops, and entertainment with Well Fago Center, Lincoln Financial Field, and Citizens Bank Park as the anchors.
if anything they would demolish Freemen before Frost Bank as you said they will use it for the Rodeo. i suspect that the Spurs don't like having to make a long road trip every year and returning to an arena that smells like cattle but don't want to publicly admit that
Do you research first? Cap One arena has an agreement for an 800 million dollar upgrade. 500 plus from the city and three hundred million plus from the team. This was announced and signed almost a month ago
The Frost bank center won't be demolished because the annual Rodeo uses it for concerts and Rodeo shows. You are correct about the Spurs looking at moving downtown to Hemisfair Park!
On the other hand, the rodeo could just return to its original home next door, Freeman Coliseum. It was built way back in 1949, but has been renovated with new seats.
@@gregsells8549 They still use Freeman Coliseum for the Rodeo to this day, along with The Frost Bank Center. They need both to house as many events as they have for those 2 weeks. Frost Bank Center won't be demolished for that reason, at least not anytime soon. It's still a valuable venue for the San Antonio Rodeo alone.
@@gregsells8549 the freeman is used for vendors and small rodeo events, they would still need the att center for concerts and actual stock show and rodeo events.
Capitol One Arena itself is owned by Ted Leonsis, owner of the Wizards and Capitals. But the ground lease is owned by D.C. and is valid until 2047. They are obligated to play there until that date according to the DC government. The District has made a $500 million dollar offer to modernize the arena. If a new arena is built it likely would have to be inside the District.
Could one or both of the teams change arenas if one or both teams are sold, or is the ground lease that strict to not allow that to happen regardless of who owns the teams?
OKC already has had two arenas. The Cox Convention Center Arena (better known as the Myriad Arena) across the street from the Paycom Center was a 16,000 seat arena for 15+ years before a movie studio took over the building. It successfully hosted several Big 12 basketball tournament games for the women simultaneous to the men's tournament at the Paycom Center. It also hosted concerts and minor league hockey at the same time the Paycom Center was operating. Word is that the Cox Convention Center site is where the new arena will go.
I agree that's why it was silly for that Alexandria idea to had been a thing in the first place. Capital One Arena is in the perfect spot, it's not the best arena, but the spot is perfect for the Wizards and Capitals plus other entertainment events throughout the year.
@@retrowarehouse2554Had they moved to Alexandria, parking there would have been $75 and the hotel nearby would have been $750 a night and it would have taken 90 minutes to get on the Metro.
@@rockvilleraven Exactly, it would've been an expensive nightmare just to go to games or other entertainment events. Not to mention the long drive. DC should've already learned from the nightmare that is FedEx Field, and how suburban stadiums just don't work for big city teams unless you're in Dallas where driving is a major part of that city's transportation structure. Alexandria would've been a nightmare that nobody needed. Remember the old Capital Centre in Landover, and how hard that was to get to as well?
@@retrowarehouse2554 I hated the Capital Centre, no public transit and you were forced to pay extra to park. When Capital One opened, they built a new entrance at the Gallery Place Metro that could handle the crowds, parking is handled by the privately garages to that stay open late and charge around $15 to $30 for events
Wells Fargo isnt going anywhere. The ownership of the flyers owns the arena as well. The sixers want their own arena for personal gain. Also they are building up the complex in the next few years with hotels and such
That's key for the Flyers is that the owner owns the building, so that means the Flyers will likely stay there and go ahead with the development plans around the arena than move in with the Sixers downtown. If the Flyers didn't own the building then I could see the Flyers moving downtown with the Sixers.
@@Adam-tr6ty No, the rodeo will stay where it’s at, they have the perfect set up at the FBC/freeman coliseum area, plenty of room for parking, carnival, vendors, and all the livestock.
Why would the Sixers want to move? There is a whole sports district where Wells Fargo Center is. WWE was happy with it. They just hosted WrestleMania XL at Lincoln Financial Field. Then they hosted Smackdown, The Hall of Fame, Stand & Deliver and Raw at Wells Fargo across the street. With WF, LFF and the baseball stadium, there was ample parking for all events too.
Not only that, but maintaining the site as is provides Philadelphia's sports teams with perhaps the most advantageous long-long-term situation in the US when it comes to future stadium construction. No worries at all about land acquisition, traffic, transit access, or anything.
Sixers don’t own the arena, The Flyers do. If they leave, Wells Fargo isn’t going anywhere. So, it’s not like the Sixers benefit from what you just said. Sixers want their own stadium downtown, a basketball inclusive one. Start their new tradition and image.
If the team moves the hockey team can stay there but all the stadium need is probably just some extra TLC because that's a good Arena and just like we seen recently WrestleMania right across the street and then SmackDown and Raw at the arena they probably just going to do some Renovations that's all
I feel like the only reason why the Sixers would want to move is if they wanted their own arena instead of renting from the Flyers but Wells Fargo will definitely not be demolished
Wells Fargo Center ain’t going anywhere. Those renovations were pretty nice, and there’s no guarantee that the Flyers will move with the Sixers. They can’t call themselves the Broad Street Bullies if they aren’t on Broad Street anymore. And wasn’t it already confirmed that the Wizards and Caps are moving to a new arena they’ll be built in Alexandria, VA?
@@DragonDonut64 Yeah, Alexandria project is dead, Wizards/Caps will likely stay in DC. You were right about the Wells Fargo Center situation for the Flyers, they're going to stay there because they own the building, and there's supposed to be development built around the entire South Philly Sports Complex with the Eagles and Phillies stadiums as well. If the Flyers didn't own Wells Fargo Center then they would move downtown with the Sixers in that scenario.
The Flyers will likely stay there though since they own Wells Fargo Center. Sixers need their own building, so they're going to move downtown. It is a great sports complex down there in South Philly though.
Even the Devon Tower, which is relatively new and taller than any previously existing building in OKC, stands out in the skyline. I can't imagine what this will look like yet.
Hmm.... When I lived in Portland, I went into the Moda Center quite a few times... I think it's a terrific arena! Great location, too... Right on the Metro train, close to downtown, great sightilnes inside the arena... I don't see anything wrong with the exterior that can't be fixed. What in the world makes you think it's a bad arena?
And still standing next to Moda Center is the Blazers' OG home, Memorial Coliseum, which is used for WHL hockey and the annual Rose Festival Parade (it was built with doors big enough for the floats to pass through).
This guy takes a shot at Portland in all of his videos. The Moda center is going through summer renovations, which started last year. Absolutely nothing wrong with the exterior, it doesn't look like a block like all the other arenas in this video.
The Allen family can pay for a new arena out of their own pockets. They don't need taxpayer funds. If you are more than rich enough to own 2 major sports Franchises, I think you are not going to bed hungry. Paul Allen was a good man and did wonderful charitable things. I can't speak on his sister because I don't know much about her. I am sure she wouldn't be holding a city hostage for unnecessary taxpayer funds in the name of greed for an arena. Because Paul wouldn't.
Delta Center isn’t bad on the inside. It wasn’t just seats. They redid the suites opened up other areas. I’d encourage you to go. It is terrible for hockey though.
That's a big one, but MSG is pretty much a landmark at this point. It'll be hard to have those expansion plans for the train station actually go through. They could still build a new MSG somewhere else in Manhattan though. This is going to be a bigger issue as time goes on in the next few years.
San Antonio Rodeo committee says they're not leaving the area where the Frost Bank center is. So they will probably keep the building from being demolished. But Spurs are definitely moving back downtown
Delta Center will be renovated, not rebuilt, per Jazz owner on April 20th. Delta Center, for anyone who’s been there, knows how loud it is. Plus the seating configuration makes it an intimidating atmosphere. It’s a tough place for opponents to play.
The owners don't need somebody lobbying for new arenas for them dude. And the Wizards/Caps lease didn't end in 2027, it ended in 2045, at least it did until Ted Leonsis went back to DC hat in hand after the "Glen Dome" fell through.
The Potomac Yards area had 3 attempts to build a stadium or arena at that site. In the early 1990s Jack Kent Cooke tried to build a new Redskins Stadium there, in the Mid 90s it was where Northern Virginia was going to put an expansion team which Tampa Bay and Arizona got teams, their name was going to be the Virginia Fury and last Ted Leonsis tried to build an arena there and fortunately it didn’t happen.
Update: they're keeping the Delta Center. They're going to renovate it in stages to better accommodate hockey. But the Jazz are gonna be there for the long haul
Downtown new orleans ..the arena is literally next to the superdome ... smack dab in the middle nawlins Plus the ownership is leaving BOTH the saitns and pels basically as a gift to the city ...
In reality, there isn't anything wrong with any of these arenas. We go to these arenas to watch events, who really cares what they look like on the inside or out. As long as I can get in & out, and they have functioning rest rooms, I'm good.
Wells Fargo Center just got a $400 million upgrade… It’s owned by the Flyers, they aren’t moving anywhere..It’s not going anywhere. And what a terrible take, Wells Fargo is a fantastic arena.
Why would Ryan Smith demolish Delta Center? From what I’ve heard the new arena would just be for the hockey team, if I’m not mistaken @depressedginger.
On the paycom center - the city of OKC is also just finishing up a 10k ish seat arena on another side of town and there is another 10k ish seat arena that is planned in Moore - a suburb of OKC. And the new Thunder arena will be right across the street from the current arena. There just isn’t a need at all
The arena OKC is building across town is at the Oklahoma state fairgrounds as a replacement for an older arena which is at the end of its useful life. It will be used mainly for horse shows, state high school basketball and wresting tournaments, and attractions during the Oklahoma State Fair. The old arena predated the Myriad by a few years and long hosted the National Finals Rodeo, as well as the All-College Basketball Tournament and the Stars and Stripes Show around July 4th. All of those eventually moved to the Myriad, and All-College ended its run at Paycom (nee Ford Center and Chesapeake Energy Arena) while the NFR went to Vegas.
From what I've heard, the University of Oklahoma has been talking about building a replacement arena for the Lloyd Noble Center. I don't know if that's the arena planned in Moore, which is the next town north of Norman.
@@boogitybear2283 And the Jazz began in New Orleans. When the team moved, some writer suggested the Utah Chorale would be a more appropriate name. The Jazz split their first season or two between the now-demolished Loyola Fieldhouse and Municipal Auditorium which has been abandoned since Hurricane Katrina, before moving to the Superdome when it opened. Then they went to the now-demolished Salt Palace.
@@OfficerPolynice There is no chance it's going to happen but the Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies names make no sense. Swapping them would fix that problem.
Hilarious ironic how the 1st arena showed in this video is the wells fargo center in philadelphia, pa & the philadelphia 76ers just got elimintated from the nba playoffs by the new york knicks there last night 😮😮😅😅😂😂!!
Moda centre isn’t getting demolished. It’s getting renovated this summer. Rumour was that Phil knight is trying to build an area for the Portland Trail Blazers. At the moment he’s trying to buy the Blazers.
@@ctownaqib there’s speculation that she’s waiting for the new TV deal and then she’ll sell the team. Another thing might be she has another 4 years because Paul Allen past away in 2018 so she can sell the team in 2028. Another rumour might be true she doesn’t have to sell the franchise in 10 years and she could hold the franchise another 10 years.
The Delta Center just got a huge renovation on all of the concourses, seating bowl, scoreboard, club spaces, and entrances. It's not being demolished anytime soon.
Frost Bank Center imo is going nowhere considering that the annual San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo is one of it's main tenants, and will be the primary tenant once the Spurs leave for their downtown arena. Frost Bank Center will also still used for concerts and other events
Utah also wants to host the Winter Olympics again and they certainly will need a new arena to host. They will probably keep the Delta Center for the Olympics so they can host all of the events without being overly stretched.
I was thinking the same thing. Move majority of the games to the Superdome; if there's conflict ala Saints games or any other events, move to the UNO Lakefront Arena. Kinda like what the Hawks did when the now State Farm Arena was being built.
Delta Center probably will be longer than five or six years. Salt Lake City is gunning for the 2034 Olympics, so it could be like what Atlanta had in `96, where Fulton County Stadium existed until `96 and was around at the same time as Turner Field for the Olympics, before getting knocked down after the Games.
Wells Fargo not going no where they just got an exterior light renovation done during mania weekend . ‘The sixers might leave but the arena not going no where
"This building just received a $400 million interior and exterior renovation" Yea, the Wells Fargo Center isn't going anywhere any time soon as many others have alluded to. Some other points: 1. Comcast Spectacor owns the building and the Flyers. The Sixers are merely a guest. 2. Said Renovation 3. The sports complex has massive parking, is accessible via subway and bus, has an event center with bars and restaurants next door from the Wells Fargo Center. A guy who stresses location would like....know this. 4. This is the second largest arena in the country by square footage because of the office space incorporated in it. Its the headquarters for Spectra, and houses the Studio for NBC Sports Philadelphia, which it has since its opening. Let's make some educated reasons next time.
Be careful before you demolish an Arena. Believe it or not Oracle Arena in Oakland, where the Warriors used to play is more profitable now than it was when the Warriors were there. Why? Because the city filled those dates with concerts, comedy show, Disney on ice, rodeo shows, etc. and they get to keep all the money. I’ve attended a number of concerts there since the Warriors left.
Yeah, that's a possible too and something we'll hear more about as the Redskins try to get a new stadium built soon. They might be able to build a new arena on that campus. Honestly though Capital One Arena is at the perfect spot though, very easy to get to for most people.
What they could do is a temporary relocation and do what Minnesota did knock down the arena and build it from the ground up therefore the RFK site can be used for a new football stadium for the Commanders or if that land is big enough maybe both teams can go there
Wow. you didn't say anything about the 34 year old Target Center in Minneapolis? the 2nd oldest arena in NBA? it will be 45 years old when lease ends in 2035.
A lot of these arenas are fairly new they were built 20 something years ago nothing really wrong with them. Why do you need a new arena every 20 years cost tax payers tons of money ridiculous.
There is absolutely zero chance the moda center gets demolished. Zero none nada. Hell Memorial Coliseum still stands literally a stones throw away. The Blazers will move to Seattle before they build a new arena
I don’t think Frost Bank is going anywhere. It will be used for the rodeo. The rodeo can’t move to the new arena. It would defeat the purpose of building a new arena.
You couldn’t be more wrong about the Delta Center. It’s the best arena in the NBA for an actual basketball watching experience and has been the biggest home court advantage in the NBA for 30 years. No one in SLC wants it demolished. Truthfully no one even wants a hockey team.
That doesn't matter when it comes to building arenas, business takes precedence over an experience. Most arenas are not going to be around forever. Utah can still get the same experience in a new building. There's nothing wrong with the building itself, but the hockey team will bring in a lot of money to the city and more money to the Jazz. You a lie about the interest in the new hockey team. People in Utah are stoked about it. Plus Salt Lake is trying to get the Winter Olympics back in 2032, so they need a new building for that anyways.
@@retrowarehouse2554 The Delta Center was built by the Jazz’s previous owner with his own money. It was entirely 100% built for basketball. It wasn’t built for concerts. It wasn’t built for hockey. It’s more like a college basketball arena that seats 19,000. The experience will absolutely not be the same in some giant arena built for hockey, too. And if the voters in SLC had a voting referendum on a new arena for a hockey team - which they did not - it would 100% fail. I would be surprised if it even got 35% votes in favor. The huge tax increase only affects the people in SLC. So who cares if people outside the city are excited for it. They are not on the hook for almost a billion dollars.
@@OfficerPolynice That's why they're building a new arena because they need to be able to fit a hockey rink into it plus this was likely going to happen anyways without a new NHL team since the city is trying to get the Winter Olympics back in town for the 2032 or 2036 games. SLC was going to be on the hook for a new or the Olympics, so there was no escaping that tax bill. The good thing about sports that money is always put back into the city. Cities are always better off with major pro sports teams than without. Utah has enough money to support an MLB team and that's coming too, so get ready for that as SLC is not going to be just a Jazz town anymore.
Yea you didnt do your research.. Wells Fargo is going absolutely nowhere. Its essentially a brand new arena with the renovation. Not coming down anytime soon And the Smoothie King center is downtown... NOLA isn't very big lol. Man this video showed you don't look into things before speaking on them
There building it for Oklahoma! A 1907 ft skyscraper year in which Oklahoma was founded 1907. It has nothing to do with other cities or states its not a decision in which city or state to build it in. Other cities can follow suit if they want and build there own.
