Some of these cars are INSANE creations, you just got to love em'. Now, I have to admit that 29 Ford would be a scary ride without suspension and tire upgrades.
A purple Fiat with a huge motorcycle exhaust out the rear panel, a VW Bug with an engine two feet out of the hoodless engine compartment, a Model A that sounds like a rally car at idle, a Cosworth (a car everyone expects to be modded), a Golf with a roll cage and stickers... the only ones that fit the "sleeper" definition were the Volvos.
I have to agree he should have hidden everything. I would guess my Turbo Bug is a sleeper. You don't see or hear a turbo. But the 4" exhaust.. NACA ducts in the window plus a full roll cage would be a dead giveaway 🤔
Some of these cars are not sleepers. A sleeper car is a car that still looks like it came out of the factory, but kicks ass when raced. The red Volvo is the true sleeper in this video.
I agree with what the others say. 1: Not a sleeper. 2: DEFINITELY not a sleeper. 3: Now THAT is a sleeper. 4: I don't really know those cars well enough, but I'd say it qualifies as a sleeper. 5: Tha'ts also a sleeper. 6: Sleeper. 7: As others have said, it would have been a sleeper (at least outside) if it didn't have those stickers. I think I saw a roll cage, which is also a big no, as it lets you in on the car's performance mods.
Jay Edwards, except for the fiat and the bug, the rest were sleepers. The golf could have been a sleeper if it didn't have that god awful advertisement on the side.
The 1929 Ford Model A with the spoked wheels is the ultimate sleeper and completely stock looking. It only had 40hp in 1929, now probably 400hp in a Cosworth mild engine. So that is 10 times the horsepower
Isn't a "sleeper" by definition meant NOT to show a car is powerful, or fast? This bug is anything but a sleeper, and the 147 doesn't look like a sleeper either. Reading the comments below, I realised the kids who put this edition together have no idea what the word "sleeper" means, they just thought it sounded cool.
The Golf at the end is a little bit sleeper, but all the rest are very clearly modified cars. Some fail to qualify just because of what they're based on. Turbo Ford Sierras were raced in international Group A and they were the fastest car in the class. Ok, that's not a standard car, but ... You can't take a Dodge Roadrunner in any state of tune, with a 440 six pack, and call it a sleeper, because nothing about that car says 'slow.' You want a sleeper, take a Porsche turbo power train, turn it around 180 degrees into the body / chassis of the car, then slip that in a fairly stock looking 1960 VW Beetle. Go find a car that's notorious for being owned by 60 year old men, to drive their wife to church. Now drop a thousand hp under it, but keep it looking like it belongs at the church... I saw some pictures many years ago, of a car built to run moonshine in the 'states. It screamed 'slow old man' at you from every angle, including the little pillow with the crochet Doyle on the rear parcel shelf, but it had about 700 hp... The general appearance was so completely at odds with what the thing could really do...
Hi! Good point.. "Stealth alloys" never crossed my mind. Certainly cost wouldn't have been a factor on this build, IMHO. After looking at the video again, my God, they would have to be.. IN 1970 I INSTALLED A 912 PORSCHE ENGINE IN A 66 VW BUG THE PORSCHE ENGINE RATED AT 102 HP FIT NICELY INTO THE BUG AND THE VW RETAINED " THE STOCK APPEARANCE "
Hope someone put a modern suspension under that model T. They weren't designed to go modern ( 70 to100 mph) speeds, because they weren't modern ! The driver Probably never even thought about that at the time !
You forgot the 1948 Chevy lowered that beat my 350 Chevy powered 59 Austin Healey. The 48 had a 427 Chevy with dual carbs on a tunnel ram and all the extras to go with it. My Healy would turn 11:80s at Lions on a cool Saturday evening.
wes noecker, My turbo diesel turbine pushes filtered air through a cooling radiator before it enters the intake manifold, supposedly to increase volume of O2 going to the cylinders.
A sleeper engine is something that is hidden away in a car that looks normal. It would be good to see more of the engine in the vehicle than a burn out, that shows nothing,
I'm not sure what your definition of a sleeper is but 1,2,4 and 7 are definitely not sleepers, a sleeper looks and sounds stock, and even though 4 looked stock, in no body's book is a Sierra Cosworth a sleeper. How about you do a vid on sleeper cars, that are actually sleepers?.
The first is an FIAT 126, one of the smaller family car ever made and sell in bilions of exemplar. The best in my opinion, probably charged with an bike engine. The rpm are too higs for an car engine ... Just amazing !!.
Man these guys have Ingenuity skills that are beyond belief I know we've never been to the moon but some of these guys in their garage probably could build a rocket to go to the Moon better than NASA guaranteed
Man, if you want to see real sleepers, check out some of those used by moonshine (illegal alcohol) runners in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Meant to not attract attention, they were built to outrun cop cars, if needed, while also carrying heavy loads of moonshine inside. They contributed to ushering in America's muscle car era.
Why didn't you show the engines on some of these cars like the Cosworth Model A? I like to see what's under the hood. So many people have a chance to make great videos but they fall short.
