Great video. As an MSF instructor of 24 years, I have to add: 8. The "Don't Call it a Comeback" already endorsed rider who wants to get back into it after a 20 year hiatus because (divorce/empty nest/mid-life) and you wonder how they ever survived out there because they literally can't remember which lever is the clutch and which is the brake. Fails the skill test. Asks if you are revoking their endorsement. 9. The "(Wo)Man in Black" student who remains nearly silent throughout class, rarely asks a question, responds to coaching with a silent nod and corrects any riding defects on their next attempt. When asked, claims never to have ridden before. Loses between 0 and 2 points on the skill test. You can't remember their name or face after they leave class. 10. The "You're Never Too Old" 50+ year-old lady who enrolled because "motorcycling looks fun". Roll 2d6. On a 2-4 she will be counseled out of class before exercise 4. On a 5-11, she'll wobble through class, barely pass the skill test and awkwardly hug you when you hand her the license endorsement paperwork, though you will worry for her safety for months after. On a 12, she'll completely smoke everyone in class on the skill test, including the Ridin' Dirty guy and the 16 year-old who has been on dirt bikes since before he could toilet unsupervised.

I was kinda that guy,I sucked in the parking lot...and the instructor came in and told me he doesn't feel comfortable taking me on the open road and I literally told him I don't either and I might need a bit more training and I'll get the hang of it.We were 4 guys and only 1 instructor,1 instructor is allowed to take only 2 people in the open road.Anyway, after he left for the open road test with 2 of the other guys I kinda "borrowed" 1 of the bikes and practiced the things I was struggling with.Anyway after he comes beack with the first 2 guys,he comes to me and asks me again if I think I can handle the practical and I reply "I think I might just be able to do it,if I think I it is to much for me I'll just stop on the side of the road".He puts me in front so he can be prepared for the worst in case something happens to me(and to act like a bumper between me and the cars behind),and so he can tell the other guy to stop. After 15 minutes,he stopped us and told me to be second and let the other guy in front because he wasn't handling traffic very well.Anyways,we both passed and the end he actually came to me and said...out of the 4 students I had today, you were the best at the practical. I guess driving for 2 years almost every day on long journeys does make you way more comfortable on the road, even though I was still scared of falling from my bike.

I was the first guy. Finally decided to take the course after 7 years. There was this guy there and he seemed really nervous. As we were walking out to the bikes he asked me what bike he should get on. I told him the little Honda Rebel is perfect if you've never ridden. He chose one of the other bikes of course, and couldn't handle the lean angles/ more aggressive stance on the other bike. He high sided on the final test. I felt bad for the guy but I tried to help him. We also had a guy that rode his brand new ninja 600 everyday to the class and dropped it on the way in on the final day of the class and got dropped off by a cop.

I can see how the class would be a confidence booster. I bought my first bike without ever knowing how to ride it. I got my permit so I could venture out a little from my house. I would recommend the class to anyone. My only complaint was I felt I spent more time watching other students fumble through the drills than I did learning. Probably should of taken a slightly more advanced class.

That is the thing, a weekend MSF course is honestly the biggest joke.. i know Americans are gonna scream "FREEDOM" but i think the reason for all theses Bike rage clips of people "Cutting them off, followed up by a useless rev bomb" is because the rider doesnt know enough about traffic or riding from a 2 day course.

We had a couple of guys who were experienced but had been riding dirty; nice guys though, and even the super-experienced Harley guy said he learned some things from the course. There were six of us who were total newbs, two voluntarily withdrew and four of us stuck with it and passed. Our instructor was very nice and just as you described: retired military and motorcycles are his life, so he taught out of love for riding. The second instructor who helped out was also prior military, very helpful, and very skilled. It was a great experience (I didn't care for the box though...LOL)!

I’m like the humble version of number 2. I do hella research and try to learn as much as I can before I do anything. I like to think before my actions. I’m the humble version as I will act like I know nothing so I don’t miss anything new I could learn. Acting like you know everything closes your mind off and prevents you from learning new things. I personally enjoy hearing something I already know. It helps me with memory retention and increases my confidence. I plan on taking the course one day but I need to watch more videos. Some of the ones I remember: 1. Lady who was training to be an MSF instructor but had to take the course first. 2. Guy who had been riding dirty on a supersport for a couple years 3. Old guy who had a bike in the 80s, was getting back in. He dropped his bike a couple times and was very incompetent. I felt bad though because he was genuinely very nice and lent me a pair of gloves. 4. My brother (and me) new riders.

Haha! I was the researcher and the illegal rider. I must have watched hours of videos, read every piece of information, and took a few online courses. I’d ridden 25 years prior, meaning that it had been 25 years since being on a motorcycle. Yet, I rode for 5 years without getting an endorsement. Even received a speeding ticket or two, with no consequence for not having and endorsement. Sure that was the early 90’s. I do say all of that to say, I wish I hadn’t done so much research. I actually failed my first try. I had WAY too much confidence in myself and just kept running the “don’t do this don’t do that” through my head. Which made me miss the “Do this and do that”. The second time through the course I just paid attention to the instructors and the bike. And tried to forget anything I thought I knew. That time around aced everything. And now for a little ball licking. I must have watched every video you have. 😂 I’m from New Braunfels, so I was feeling some kindred vibes when watching your vids. Great content, and always on point. Stay safe!

I took the Ontario Canada equivalent of the MSF and we definitely had a few of these. None who got kicked out, but the most memorable was the 'dude showing off the bike he's gonna get' except it wasn't even him -- the poor dude -- it was his MOM who was doing the course as well. It was lighthearted and in good nature though but it was a bit silly heheh. I was the 'researched' guy because I was so nervous about getting into riding so researching helped calm my nerves a bit, but when I got to the course I was so excited that I just couldn't help throwing a hand up for each question. C'est la vie! Didn't make a lick of difference though 'cause I still had to do the final test twice haha. All of the instructors were super-duper chill and buddy-buddy with eachother. Their level-headed, down-to-earth, friendliness made the class super fun and made for a great learning environment. The passion was real

Euro bro here. Had to take classes that spanned over the course of +1 month (3-5 hours per week, including first aid course). My instructor was super cool, the practical lessons work like this: You have a few days on closed course getting to know the motorcycle, as well as practicing emergency maneuvers at high and low speeds. From that point you head out on the public roads, usually 3-5 riders in a group with radio comms, while the instructor follows the group in a car and gives instruction on direction and specific maneuvers he wants us to do. Those maneuvers can be "make a U turn here" which requires you to do all safety steps of stopping up, looking behind, signalling for the turn, then making the narrow U turn in one go without putting down any feet from the moment you set off, to the moment you complete the turn. Then you wait for the rest of the group to do it. If the instructor is satisfied with everyone's performance, he signals to continue riding. It's actually super fun, you get the immediate experience of riding in a group, while in the secure hands of an instructor who both knows the route as well as has authority to act as emergency police force. By law he is allowed to obstruct traffic lanes if he deems it necessary to ensure the safety of his student riders, and is allowed to cross red lights (at a safe manner of course) in order to stay with the bike group. This taking place over the duration of a month or so, also means people get a better feeling with what they like/dislike about the bikes they ride, and have plenty of time to discuss with their instructor about potential bikes they wanna take a look at, and get some valuable insider info along the way. It's such a great entry into the biker world. When I took my final exam (in Denmark) it was sub zero degrees and both the public roads and the test track were completely covered in ice. They had to lay down a 2 feet wide path of salt to melt the path we had to ride on during the closed track tests, which meant that if you went even slightly off course the bike would go down in the blink of an eye xD And mind you, we still had to do all the emergency tests like high speed braking, emergency obstacle avoiding, complicated super slow speed maneuvering on technical track, high speed cornering, etc. I can't help but think of how many people would have dropped their bikes if they had only been on an MSF equivalent course.. I'm thankful for my extensive learning period, even though it was a bit costly and lengthy. It was not all bad, made tons of great memories along the way, and I certainly became a better rider - not just in my comfort zone, but especially outside of it. I've since had to use some of the emergency techniques we extensively practiced, and I am certain that this practice has saved me from going down a few times, especially when having to avoid idiot cagers who can't be trusted to drive rationally..

Hey Yammie, here to ride legally start writing the standard drivers theory test if you aren’t licensed to drive a vehicle. You then get a provisional learners license which allows you to begin practical training on public roads. If you are already fully licensed you can start with practical training. M20 X 30 minute lessons by law. You can do 10 X 1 hour lessons too. You then go to the VID (our DMV) and do a practical test which is split into two parts. The first is done in the VID yard and it’s : 1) instruments check (the buttons, switches, pedals etc.) 2) lights, turning signal checks 3) hand signals 4) weave through cones and back at a snails pace, no hanging feet, no feet on the ground. 5) hill start If you pass all these, you move on to part 2. The 2nd part: City drive. They follow behind you in a car or on a motorcycle on a predetermined route which they discuss with you before you leave the VID yard. 20 minutes later, you are back at VID. If you passed, you submit your license and get Class 3 stamp on it. We have 5 Classes (Endorsements) you can be licensed for. Class 1 = Passenger Buses Class 2 = Semi-Trucks/Lorrys Class 3 = Motorcycles Class 4 = Cars, Minibuses, Class 5 = Farm vehicles like tractor (You get the class 5 endorsement automatically when u get a class 1,2 or 4. There’s no practical test for it) Zimbabwe licensing system.

My class had almost every one of these, but we had a good explanation for #6, the scooter guy. He had previously been in a car accident and had very weak stability and grip on his left hand (kind of like Doctor Strange) so he was there just for scooter/automatic since it was safer for him than driving a car. Also the #4, guy who won't shut up about his ride... he wasn't in our class but when ours was just starting (at Saturday 7am...) this guy shows up with a huge expensive cruiser bike and was showing it to all the instructors. We thought he was OUR instructor... turns out he did his MSF only 2 weeks before us and came to show the instructors what he was talking about. This dude made me uncomfortable just to look at him on that bike.
