well stats alone shouldn't be the determining factor else no defender will ever win the award again. It's easy for attackers because they are in the front and score the goals (they make up the stats), but defenders and midfielders don't do that because it isn't their job, so we can't just use stats (they favor just attackers), but isn't the ballon d'or supposed to be something like the MVP in NBA -- the most important, impactful and valuable player. With that i still think Vinicius deserved this year's ballon d'or, he exemplified that. He really was the MVP.
