Agree. Like we just can't forget Bayer Leverkusen's phenomenal season for God's sake. Like how the hell didn't they take the team of the year? And Real Madrid are talking about "disrespect"... 🤦🏿♂️
What do you expect from a club which won most of their trophies in history because of a fascist dictator and referees giving them free penalties and ignoring their offsides?
Only ones with some balls to invalidate a stupid award 🤷♂️ Haaland bent over for Messi to rob him, him and his club shouldn’t have showed up. Same for VVD, same for lewandowski. Same for Henry & arsenal, same for dinho when he was robbed before he made it undeniable.
What's the controversy? People voted on what they prefered and that person won. The fact that Real Madrid doesn't realize that having so many top players ended up penalizing Vinicius is hilarious.
@@theoneandonlybosableYh but Man city don’t look the dominant same as of today they have 2 clean sheets in 9 games around a 20% lower rate in comparison to last year with Rodri. And in reality last year for genuine ballondor contenders/potential - Haaland was injured Kdb was injured and Foden stunk in the euros which clearly dropped him to 11th
Did Bayern Munich embarrassed themselves in the media by yelling "Robbery!" and crying in 2020 when their player - Robert Lewandowski was denied the Ballon D'or for a BS reason? Everybody agreed that he should've won it in 2020.
Key thing to keep in mind is that this is an "individual" award yet Palmer finished 25th just because he hasn't won anything with the club....25th is crazy considering he was PFA player of the season and had the most G/A out of anyone. As Klopp eloquently put it "it's a journalist award".
Not even just that tho. Leverkusen won the DFB Pokal and were runner ups in the Europa League, all of which they did unbeaten (they lost 3-0 to Atalanta in the Europa League final but that was the *ONLY GAME* where they lost a match last season)
Madrid's response screams of backroom dealings. Given the nature of the Balon d'Or, clubs/agents aggressively lobby for votes. Why wouldn't they? i It would not be surprising if it turned out they payed for votes, given the financial incentive for winning. It seems to me Madrid had payed for a massive campaign, thought they had guaranteed themselves the awards, and got a shock. Why else would they have scheduled a 5 hour show and prepare a 50 person delegation or whatever it was. You don't do that unless you are sure, and Vinicius' season was just not good enough to justify that. No international success? Less than 30 goals in all competitions? A good season, but not nearly good enough to be a shoe in.
Real Madrid think the whole football world revolves around them. Throwing their toys out of the pram because Vini didn't win it. Rodri thoroughly deserved this win. As Aguero said 'Football is about everyone, not just Real Madrid'.
Rodri doesn't even deserve to be nominated. The balon d'or is supposed be the best player in the world not the best school boy in the world. When it comes to football rodri isn't even top 10 at his position
@@stefan5730, well this sentiment is why CDMs are so underrated. This is the same thing with Kante at Chelsea and France. Actual football experts know their importance. Others just look at stats to decide the best player.
@@rrjgpl Yeah Rodri is so important City is still first without him and Spain won the final without him. All this bs City or Spain can't win without him is just that bs. Spain wouldn't win without Yamal or City without Haaland not Rodri.
A narrative can be created for nearly any player if you frame their season in the right way. Highlight a few stats, focus on key moments, and suddenly it seems like they had an award-worthy year. With this approach, you could make a case for any player’s season, and it could just as easily be debated as not worthy enough to win. Take Kane’s season for a moment, more goal contributions than matches played, Golden Boot in every tournament that he has played, scored in every knockout round in the Champions League that he has played, but because he didn't have a high-profile moment in a final or a big match, people often overlook the consistency he showed throughout the season. This bias toward memorable moments skews perceptions. We see it all the time-players with a standout moment end up getting more recognition, even if others performed better over the whole season. It’s as if sustained excellence isn’t as valued as those dramatic, one-time moments. In the end, it's often less about the season's merit and player's merit and is more about the narrative that sticks with fans and the media. The more popular you are, more the journalists hear about you and more votes you get.
The fact that people think a plastic political popularity contest adds anything to a player shows they know nothing about football, Messi could have 0 ballon d’Ors and he’d still be the Goat
This reminds me of when Kante won the PFA Player of the year in 2017 when the likes of Hazard, Kane and Alexis Sanchez had stellar seasons. All of them would have been worthy winners but it was refreshing to see a non-attacking player win the award. I think Vini had a case, but for me Rodri deserved to win this year's Ballon d'or
No he didnt. He was deserving of a spot in the TOTY, but he was not the best player in the world. He somehow won player of the tournament at the EUROS despite Spain playing better without him, and he oversaw a pretty poor season for City. He had a great year, but it defintely feels like he was the "hipsters choice", winning alot of plaudits he didnt really merit.
@@anotherguy3082He was only “hipster choice” cause there was no true outstanding candidate. Reality is if we’re doing it in solely the 1st half the season Bellingham should’ve won the ballondor. And solely the 2nd half of the season Vinicius should’ve won the ballondor. But ballondor is August-June. For those two major candidates not one of them had a e.g Benzema 2022 where from August to May he was always in ballondor conversations/favourite and pretty undeniably the best player in all comps. You may feel Vini should’ve won fair enough, I just don’t think it was a landslide victory for anybody. There were holes in his case too.
Theres a small part of me that keeps laughing at the thought that Mbappe is very happy Vini didn't win the Balon Dor and actually wanted to attend the ceremony.
From what it looks like, a 'trusted insider' leaked to Real Madrid that Vini is winning it. Seems like this this individual doesn't have enough power to rig the vote into their favor. And now Real Madrid feels like the institution betrayed and embarrassed them, hence the total meltdown.
If "class and fair play" is one of the criteria that the Ballon d'or is based on, doesn't this mean that Real Madrid have dealt their entire team a serious blow to winning next year's awards?
@@sanato1301 Maybe they had to add this just for Vinicius. No Ballon D'or winner or contender ever was such a jerk and obnoxious player on pitch every single game. Vinicius made CR7 look like the perfect gentleman.
you really NEED to talk about the Cymru premier. the league has only existed since the early 90s and has been neglected throughout its history. this year however, the champions are participating in the europa conference and have already bagged a win. could this be a turning point for the league? 🏴
Blame Real Madrid. Because winning club of the year, coach of the year, most of the top four and an actual La Liga and Champions League double is somehow not enough. Either that or it was part of their sulking after being pummeled by Barcelona

Rodri winning it is a reflection of where world football is at right now, Very few individual stars in the game anymore, as good as Rodri is he’s just the best of what is a pretty dire era, the top 3 this year would have been propping up the rear 15-20 years ago.
It's not about how much money it worth.. or what is it made of.... it's how football fans values it.what makes it prestigious, rare and everyone wants it. because it's History... it's not like the primer league tittle worth billions... no lol.
how he was not in the ucl team of the season nor nominated for prem player of the season and despite winning euros pott nico yamall and ruiz were far better
In not a fan of any team but last year watching Jude became the main man at his age and whole team playing beautifuly was a joy. This season Jude got disrespected , they would be better keeping joselu and not importing mbape. And not addressing Toni retirement. This club is a joke and it's hard to cheer for em as an unbiased fan.
I don't really think this is France Football's fault, it's just the fact that people actually give too much credit and prestige to an award which is clearly subjetive and favour strikers over any other position, with a lot of journalists just voting for their national players.
Madrid fans all cared about Ballon d’or so much that they were celebrating Vini’s win till it was announced that he wasn’t gonna win, and suddenly all of then think the award is meaningless
The Ballon D'Or is a reward for best player of the season. Vini was not even even that coverstion for like 80% of the season it was mostly Jude. Vini showed up for a few Champions League games and he's the favourite???

Nobody does it better than you, Alfie. Thoroughly enjoyed this.
Yeah, if it’s something like the golden boot which can be measured objectively I‘m ok with individual awards. But best player awards are always subjective

Yeah sure Vinicius never deserves a Ballon D'Or except he grows up. Funny how he threw a party to celebrate and promising a Rolex if he wins and then loses. Vinicius is Immature and such behavior should never be rewarded
@@ChryskylodonInstitute do explain good Sir. Is this an Award that is filled with disrespectful people who act Immature? Does it need Sponsors? I heard a small Club named Real Madrid might need a new Reward to be handed.
Dibu Martinez won the Yashin trophy. Please shut up about "class" and "fair play", specially after rodri was literaly punished for singing racist songs THIS YEAR
I’m a Juve fan and think when cannavaro won it was really a make up for him not winning the golden ball in the 06 WC since they voted at halftime, pre Zidane headbutt and Italy victory
The statement from real madrid is truly ridiculous, but at least here in brazil, the discourse been much more about UEFA, france football and actually fifa really not caring and being against Vinicius’ fight against racism in Spain. And it’s real if you think about how european press basically tell him to shut up and dribble, and still complain when he dribbles. Don’t know if you see that as an overreaction, but it’s been the case since some of the neymar finishes in the top 5, that we see ourselves as disrespected because the big european conglomerates think we are too expressive and don’t bow down to disrespect.
This video read my mind, people forget that before Messi and Ronaldo, players were getting snub left and right. things are going back to before those football gods appeared
Imo, the behaviour of Real Madrid and its fanbase is the only disgrace of this year’s Ballon d’Or. They demand to be respected yet refuse to turn up to the ceremony on the sole basis that none of their players won it, and their fans have effectively been rioting on social media (ironically/stupidly going after basically anyone called Rodrigo that isn’t Rodri himself)
@@zaydzayyad8029 Players don't watch football. They train 2 or 3 times every day until the evening, do you really think they want to go home tired and watch what they already did all day?
Here is a list (my opinion) of what the Balon Dor would look like if it was fair/fairer (too many things to explain dont make me argue about things that are a given just because i didnt want to write 50 pages of context) 1 - Rodri - individually i do still think he was better and more important to his team its just hard to show because City could win the Prem with their B team at this point 2 - Viny - the best attacker in terms of output for his team who won everything (importance on HIS team) outside of the Spanish Cup but overall not even near top output compared to others even with adjusted minutes 3 - Jude Bellingham - Fantastic start and debut season for club and country but towards the later parts he was really lacking on off the ball play which might have cost him a Euros still clutch from time to time 4 - Harry Kane - Despite not winning anything cause of a broken Bayern side and losing in the final Kane for me was the best performer of the year , most complete in-form striker right now just sucks that he is anti clutch but if we are being honest his teammates also massively failed him from time to time 5 - Lautaro Martinez - Top scorer in the second best League in the world (per Uefa and Opta ) and top scorer in the Copa America , won a domestic double and his confederations trophy by being the main man , an early UCL exit is all he has for wrongs 6 - Alejandro Grimaldo - Euro winner and invincible domestic double and Europa league finalist , lost 1 game all year , was the best performing full back in the world along side his counterpart Frimpong , also insane output as a fullback actually 3 G/A off Vinicius himself AS A FULLBACK 7 - Toni Kroos - Great last season from an individuall and team prespective , Toni pretty much as class as always Germany's defeat is the only reason he isnt higher Anything under these 7 players can be whatever imo these are the only players who were clear cut better than everyone else , shout outs however go to , Salah , Rudiger , F. Valverde , Foden , Palmer , Halaand , Xhaka , Carvajal , Emi Martinez , Calhanoglou , Frimpong , Wirtz , Saliba , Rice in no particular order
@@gamakujira64e23 True , he played 2 games but again the guy who played in his position was Cucurellia who was nowhere near as good but was chosen by the coach for his own reasons , i cant take it away from Grimaldo nor do i think that things would have gone diffrently if Grimaldo played instead
I would have Grimaldo a little lower because he didn't have that big of an impact on the euros but his Leverkusen performances really push in into the top 10
I‘d put Wirtz over Grimaldo. He was more important to Leverkusen and the Euros can’t really be held against Wirtz as Grimaldo barely played there. I think Wirtz should have made the top 10 (probably 8-10) with Grimaldo a bit behind
I always wondered how you got on on the content creator award i don't usually participate in such things but I made sure to vote for you, how you didn't win is a joke you are hands down the best around. Best variety, best educated, best historical knowledge, best research and deffo funniest and most witty. Don't know what the criteria was only thing close to you is tifo for any of the above 💯🏆
Called it, before I watch. Its obvious that the Balond Dor is decided based on what makes for the most narrative, its clearly been made as a kind of marketing tool, maybe it always was but I think the recent controversy surrounding the winners these days is because it isn't quite as unanimous as it was when it was just CR7 and Messi. I wonder how the award will adapt with the growing disillusionment among fans, players and clubs alike.
I think Barca and Real along with their fans really made the award toxic. Both teams have accumulated great PR in Europe with their stars in Messi and Ronaldo so it seems both, especially Real and Ronaldo fans couldn't stand the thought they didn't win it. Also good point on Alonso with Leverkusen. Wonder why Real and Ronaldo fans didn't say that was robbery. 🤔🤔
i will never forget what they did to Lewandowski in 2020, he had the season of his life and got robbed.... this "award" lost all respect for me forever...
The fact that Lord Maguire wasn't even nominated despite winning the November 2023 Premier League player of the month award, tells you how much of a joke this award is.
This year ballon dor based club and international performance. Vinicius Jr performance way more better than rodri but in international tournaments, he lost his aura, not performing like people expect he do in real madrid. Also no 3 could part Vinicius lost, yes rodri could somehow lost tamper but vini like provoke his opponent and fan. If he change a little bit that, he will win.
I gave you a like for this video. Not because I was interested and didn't know how the ballon d'or was awarded, but rather because of the undoubtedly tantalising effort to have to put up with this laughable shit show initiated by people whose egos seem to be bigger than the Iberian peninsula. That deserves a little respect.
Carvajal at #4 is laughable, especially him being above Martinez and Kane. The Polish journalist reason for Rodri over Vini was crazy though. Any of the top 3 winning wouldn't be unreasonable
How the Ballon d'Or voting should be and who votes: Players Managers Ex- Player (diverse selection) They can not vote for team mates for team or country/ country men. can use same point systhem as they use now, or find a better solution. stop with the journalists that semingly have biases.
Players won't be biased? Managers won't be biased? Just like his example Löw and Bosque never voted for Messi. Even ex player have their bias. What they should have done is make it about stat for every position and never about who is the best from all player.
@Skolladrum they will, but they can't vote on team mates or players from their country, which has been the thing they have done the most. You can remove all biases when it comes to humans. But you can limit the biggest outliers. And the more voters, the better. And more diverse it will be. More chance of a defender winning, for instance.
I'm not saying it is perfect, but seemingly better than how it is with 100 journalists. You can se it in the women's coach award. Absolutely every one said the barca coach should win, but it was a man in the women sport, so he lost to the woman whom only won 1 trophy, compared to 4 throphys.
But you didn't say who should vote for it? Not everything can be put into stats. Not everything is black and white. What you said can still work with what I said. Deviding is not a problem.
@@zakabi6605 even then for player I'm sure they would exclude whoever they think could win against them/ their teammates and choose who they think won't win. Like during the era of Ronaldo vs Messi, they obviously would rather kick their rivals out and put the next best thing even if it's not their teammates (like Ronaldo could maybe choose from United player or Messi choose from someone who departed Barca already)
I don't even think the problem was Rodri winning, but the whole campaign against Vinicius that culminated in the ballon d'or fiasco, you have jornalists not voting for Vini because of "lack of fairplay", when guys like Emi Martinez get praise for being provocative, while the whole reason for this Vinicius backlash is because he gets offended on the pitch and doesn't lower his head, you have jornalists and rival fans calling him a monkey, and he fights back where he can, on the pitch. If Vinicius losing was purely by perfomance, then fine, we can agree to disagree, but being penalized for arbitrary (and sometimes quite racist) reasons, is just quite revolting when you think about it. Also choosing George Weah to give the ballon d'or, a player who has ABSOLUTELY no connection to Rodri, just kind of show how the war between UEFA and Madrid goes both ways. They knew everyone thought Vinicius would win, picked the only african winner of the award with the sole intent to humiliate Vinícius on stage.
Weah is literally the only player that played for City and won a Ballon D'Or. Vini's season was by no means the performance of a lifetime. Bowen and Mateta have more goals than him. It's purely a matter of subjective opinion based on facts. Not everything is a conspiracy against Madrid
Madrid fans don't care about this laughable award. We only care about objectively measurable achievements. They are perfectly happy to never have a player win the Ballon D'or as they are more interested in wining trophies.
Vini Jr. was clearly the best player in the world. He just had a masterclass season in the UCL, La Liga, and Copa del Rey, being the best player in two of these competitions and deciding the most challenging games. Because of his determination to fight against racism, UEFA tried to embarrass and silence him all season long. It's embarrassing to see that almost every opinion about him not deserving the Ballon d'Or was based on his attitude rather than his performance. It's also embarrassing to say that Rodri was the best player of the year when he wasn’t the best player on the Spanish team, in the Euro, in the Premier League, on Man City, or in the UCL. All of those internacional prizes just had to end.
Please stop. Vini wasn't even the LA Liga player of the year or the best player on Madrid. Didn't do bits for Brazil. Stop making it seem like he had a Messi/Cristiano season like Haaland last year and still lost
