Testing 7 different potato peelers to see which one is best! Some of these can be used for other items such as apples or carrots but I focused only on potatoes for this video.

I use these , believe it or not and the reason is that I don't like to boil my potatoes, I like to bake them. don't laugh now, I put a little bit of dawn on the gloves , that's right Dawn and run it under a little bit of hotish water and then scrub all the dirt and grime off the potatoes which still leaves the peel but leaves me with a clean potato to bake! Try it in that vein and you maybe more welcoming to the idea of what they can do, oppose what they were made to do. Semper Fi, Robbie

That's what I was thinking! Then I realized you could do a batter similar to onion strips/blooming onion. Basically a liquidy batter. Then flash fry it. I'd try it both ways myself. That could make a wonderful appetizer. Could you imagine just a huge plate of it. Surrounded with various dips and little plates to put yours in. Actually it probably wouldn't hit the plate with me around. I have a bad habit of eating while I'm cooking.

James we have that apple peeler and your potatoes were falling off because you didn’t have them pushed on the spikes all the way 😂 also they missed spots because the tension on the blade needs to be adjusted for potatoes (light tension for apples, high for potatoes.) It's for peeling after boiling. Idea is that instead of peeling potatoes before throwing them in the water when making mashed potatoes or potato salad, just boil whole then use the mitts to pull off the skin.

For cleaning purposes, the starfrit is hard to beat. The only thing you need to do is to make sure a piece of peel is not stuck in the blade so it won't block it once it dehydrates, and that's it.

3:02 I have that one though I didn’t pay any where near that price, dam you got ripped off I payed like £4 for mine, but I actually find I use it mostly when we haven’t refilled the grated cheese and I need some to mix into stuff of for beans& cheese on toast. It also works super well on frozen chocolate for garnishing stuff. Side note it also works really well on fingernails and skin so be careful, I actually tested it on wood and it went through it just like the potato.

How do you justify the spiralizer over the dollar store one? That thing was junk. I don't think the shape of like a big red apple is gonna fare any better than the shape of a potato. At least the dollar store one worked as advertised... When you take price and application of the product, I don't see how you would choose that one over the cheap-o one. I would even almost guarantee you would choose the cheap one over that red spiralizer in the future 🧐

Love your videos. FWIW: I have the Spiralizer. Admittedly, I've only used on apples (a case for applesauce) but I struggled with it until I got it adjusted. The base can be adjusted as can the tension on the arm doing the peeling. For potatoes, I use peeler similar to the #2. I like peeling from the end. Like you, I don't trust myself to peel in both directions.

That apple peeler works quite well on, well, apples. When I used to volunteer in the kindergarten near home, the kids are encouraged to bring an apple to snack on, and they all got super excited when it was snack time and one of the teachers brought out the apple peeler from the staff room. After peeling, coring and slicing, the apple would resemble a slinky and the children would have great fun playing and eating them. I must admit that I also brought my own apples just so I could have my own slinky, and for some reason it did taste nicer that way :)

CORRECTION: Yes, Jodie Simpson is absolutely, dead-on correct. The Tater mitts are made exactly for washing / scrubbing clean raw potatoes and other vegetables. And does it gently and easily, but most of all cleanly remove the peel from potatoes and other vegetables that have been boiled, roasted or have otherwise had their skins softened. Like roasted Chili Peppers and bell peppers Etc. How about another test of vegetable washing/scrubbing tools/gadgets? Go grab those Tater Mitts off of the shelf and give them a proper run , doing what they are made to do, the way the way they are designed to do it?! At the very least, I believe you'll be quite impressed with them. Sincerely, Yvonne Quartuccio (via Tim Richards)

I am considered as the gadget woman by my friends..... I have SousVide machines, Food Savers, Vacuum chamber etc. Etc......... Should have asked a commission from Starfrit for the Rotato potato I promoted and sold............. all my friends got one..... my passion in life: having my friends try my stuff....... but now because of Covid, I deliver food for people who got that awful disease.............. use my vacuum chamber to put soup in bags etc..........If I had a commission from Starfrit, It could pay for my Cybertruck........Just trying to save the planet...... with Hydro-Québec, electricity is cheap........ already have the charger......Go electric....... I know Orange Donald Duck is still promoting coal but think of your grandkids. The Rotato Potato makes it fun and I peel 10 pounds at a time....... you put them in water in the fridge........ for mashed, fries using the actifry, or if sliced use for Gratin Dauphinois using my Starfrit potatoe slicer............. With my Rotato Potato I peel lemons, oranges, mangoes etc. Etc. The brilliant thing is that if you do not like the feel of lemon zest (being francophone, perhaps I do not use the right words and my spelling is British, that is how I learned the most) I peel the lemon and then can retrieve it in one go. For my orange soup, no problemo........ when I use the orange peel, the blender takes care of it. The Potato Rotato as we call it in Québec, le RotatoPatato is by far the tool I use most in my kitchen. You could try some of my toys if you haven’t done already...... The Kitchenaid stand mixer.... 1.3 horse power, enough to pull your trailer...... my bread machine, the Zojirushi...... by far the best of all the machines I have tried over the years: Black and Decker, Cuisinart etc. The best vacuum chamber...... not sealer.......... the cost of a bag is a lot cheaper so you can justify the cost etc. Have to say that I have that apple pealer which slice at the same time....... absolutely brilliant if used for apples.

I gave up making mashed potatoes yesterday trying to peel with mobility issue until I saw the Rotato Express, thank you! And as a bonus feature the kids could jump rope with the peel. Ahahaha 😁

I prefer a properly designed traditional peeler, and my choice is Victorinox. They peel effortlessly, and that's because Victorinox knows how to make a good quality sharp blade. I don't do China or Taiwan for any kind of cutlery or tools. BTW the Victorinox which is made in Switzerland only costs $3.

Yes, Jodie Simpson is absolutely, dead-on correct. The Tater mitts are made exactly for washing / scrubbing clean raw potatoes and other vegetables. And tea gently and easily, but most of all cleanly remove the peel from potatoes and other vegetables that have been boiled, roasted or have otherwise had their skins softened.

Back in about 1983, we had a Rotato. But back then it was called a Dazey Stripper. I LOVED it as a kid. I would keep using it until the potato was just a stub and use it to make hashbrowns. I just bought a Rotato because of you, btw. Thank you :)

Tater Mits, found them better at removing feather s from Game-birds, also does a Great job scaling fish. However, cleaning root vegetables WITHOUT wasting the produce , these gloves do give a deep down scrubbing.Without all the waste.

I'd take the Betty Crocker one over all of those. $1 and did the job quite fast and easy. The one you liked would take FOREVER to peel say..10 potatoes. Betty Crocker hands down Win for me.

I have the T-shaped OXO peeler and it’s better than the standard shaped version but just ok. I have arthritis, though, so I will definitely be buying the Rotato. Especially now that I know other commenters also use it on citrus. Logic tells me apples probably work, too. Even though you have healthy hands, I like this video style because it’s a real person using a wide variety and cutting through the BS advertising!

I was highly entertained watching you trying the gloves, LOL. Though as others have said, I am sure it's for cleaning raw and peeling once they're cooked or blanched...probably pretty easy then. Maybe for a very specific use, but maybe good for an eating establishment. Fail for not having instructions, though...that would have saved you some frustration.
