I had the same engine hours issue on my 17 Express, I tried both Android and Windows with the OBDLink MX+ but it wouldn't work. I found a post somewhere that suggested it was an issue with Bluetooth so I tried again using a OBDLink EX cable (usb) and Windows which worked without any problems.

The upgrade for my dash gage cluster went great! Thanks for the tutorial. I ran it on my Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 in tablet mode. It didn't behave at first so I installed the supporting app for the plugin ODB reader/transmitter which allowed me to install a firmware update. After that, there were no problems updating the Mileage, Idol, and Drive engine hours. 👍

Are you referring to the MX+ software if using the MX+ OBD tool? Just an example, if using a different OBD reader/ tool of course get their most up to date software right?

got one for my 13 RAM 1500 and installed with alfa. Works great only thing is my oil life is incorrect but oh well close enough to my oil change time it shouldnt matter too much.

I just replaced my cluster for the upgraded one on my 2018 Ram Midnight Express. It took all my hours and no problems programming. I also used the OBD+ MX

Good to know! I can’t get the idle or engine running hours to take. Alfa says it completes the procedure but it doesn’t change.

@@BoostedMotorsports if not there after a sleep I can only suggest this…close the doors and start with idle hours…app might say procedure failed but if you check the ipc it should flash and ding with the correct info. Then, go get lunch or something. Do lifetime hours next and should get same results. As for total hours, they just popped up. I didn’t do a vin write or rewrite and that could be the difference.

Fyi to get lifetime hours you have to add the idle and drive hours together. The cluster takes the difference between the 2 to give drive hours. Fwiw, I've made changes to the bcm for lighting that took hours to take effect, so even if it says it took and initially doesn't, it may show up several hours later after a sleep cycle.

Hey fellas.. I was able to upgrade my Cluster Gauge on my 2015 RAM 1500 SLT 3.6 to the 7" Premium, I was lucky to get for $200 from a local in FL. I followed the steps that John had mentioned in his video/Post - But, I paid and downloaded the AlfaODB software and license for the PC version on WINDOWS. Since I purchased both the ODBLink MX+ (Bluetooth)and the ODBLinkEX which is for PC or Android wired. This worked on my 1st Run, with no caveats or issues. I did however use 6 digits, like 000259 for Idle hours, although it's actually 259 - did the same for Engine Hours as well - worked fine. Yeah, it's a bit costly for paying for the Bluetooth option and the USB, but to me it's all worth it. A piece of mind, when doing serious or more risky flash to the ECU. I also, do the same for my German/BMWs using MHD and and ProTools. I Love my new Cluster - wow what a difference. Thanks for sharing John.. Keep doing doing what you're doing 👊

Just an FYI , I have been using the Vgate vLinker MC+ Bluetooth OBD2 4.0 .. and don't seem to have any issues with alfaobd.. its way cheaper than the OBDLink Mx+ (since it got popular) 55.00 as of now

I’ve seen some comments asking if a EVIC Instrument Cluster off of a 2013-2018 Ram Pickup would work in a 2009-2012 Ram Pickup, the answer is no, the harnesses aren’t the same, and even if you wired it, it would still be a mess because of the amount of sensors.

John, I had the same issue with the 7" EVIC swap in my 2014 Express. If you figure out how to fix it please make an update video. Also did you notice if your new EVIC has dimmer/less white hue to the backlight around the speedo and tachometer? I posted about it on ramforum and no one had seen that before. Awesome content as always. Can't wait for the console install.

So there is a big difference between 2012 and 2013? This cluster wouldn't work in a 2012? I'm changing out my interior in my 2 door 2012 with the 5.7 but it's a ST I think. I'm putting bucket seats and center console from a 2014 4 door. Hopefully everything hooks up.

About the engine and idle hours. You can edit the total and the idle. Engine hours is total minus idle. Add the two numbers together and input that number as the engine hours, this will get the hours and total correct.

Sick what type of truck am I able to replace if I want leather? It's a 2003 dodge ram in a quad cab.. for right now 1000 dollar headlights.. just got some leather seats on its way!! From a 2015 all black... Would love to get leather panels. And upgrade the doors.. all black. Is it possible? Doing starlight in black suede. Upgradeing speakers. Rock lights 6 inch lift. Keeping the 35. Upgrading brakes and pads and rotors.. custom headlights and rear. LEDs reverse. Steel bumper and front.. and seeing how I can upgrade the stereo with touchscreen. Having android auto.. and USB

Awesome tutorial. I would have been second guessing myself with this program if you hadn’t made this. Also not sure what the repercussions are if you don’t change the vin. But mine personally said procedure failed. I started googling and than suddenly it popped up with the usual message that it was successful and let it rest for several minutes. So I don’t know if it went through 🤷‍♂️

This is super cool. We have the rare 2006 Ram 1500 Laramie mega cab. For anyone who’s into specs this particular truck came with a 5200 pound front end and a almost three-quarter ton rear end on a 1500. It also sits higher in stock tram than other 1500s. They did this mega cab on the 1500 for two years. Then I figure they assumed they were building basically a 2500 or 3500 mega cab so I do it on the 1500s. After 2007 mega cabs only came in 2530 500 trims. I have the 5 inch screen in the dash which has since gone blank. Thought about putting an aftermarket unit in there and priced some really cool ones at $1500. Even thought of taping an iPad to the dash to make it like a super cool Tesla. Anybody with an idea on how I can restore this stereo GPS head unit to something even better than what was Stock in the year 2006. Thanks for all you guys are doing and sharing

eBay, offer up, fb market place or scrap yards. Boosted has another video where he links all the places he gets stuff. Craigslist is good place to check also…don’t just look for cluster though, find the salvage or parts only listings and ask the seller. I found that cluster when looking for tailgate and asked if they had other parts. My .02c though

Technically, yes and no. If you’re swapping to do an upgrade, as seen in this video, no harm at all…as the original miles and info were used. However, if you choose to “roll back” miles… service records, vin checks, title and registration verification will raise a flag and if your numbers don’t add up at time of sale…you could be f#%cked. It’s a federal offense…ask me how I know 🤣🤣

If it’s a cluster before 15 you’ll run into issues I have a 17 cluster in mines and had no issues programming but what I can recommend ppl just wait 5 minutes in between changes and they always get it or they just keep doing the same process 5 times. Edit: pre 2014 clusters will only have the ram head 13-14 are the years to avoid anyway if you have TPMS if you manage to find a 2014 cluster with TPMS you are good

I am wondering if the PCM has that data in it as well, meaning mileage and run times. If that is the case I wonder why the dash isn't a slave of the PCM and just would read it from the PCM. I know you have been in HP tuners like to one of these PCMs and have seen some of the info in there, did you see mileage and run times?

Wouldn't the life time engine hours be the sum of idle and drive? seems there needs to be a drive hours change. I dont really know my truck already has the 7 inch cluster just spitballing at this point. maybe its causing a conflict with the ecm?

Yeah you might be right on adding the two together for the lifetime but either way it wouldn’t take the programming. Another RU-vidr was able to input arbitrary numbers and it saved on his. I have something else I’m going to try today I’ll post a follow up video if it works

@@BoostedMotorsports I've had some issues trying to write the hours into a buddy's truck. Sometimes it seemed like the order of operations made a difference, (lifetime first, then idle, but it does seem to be hit and miss. Even when trying to write the hours to the old base cluster.
