@@nunosapunso6239is that why the previous Prius prime can easily go over 300 thousand miles? I can send you a link to it if you like. No major repairs, original motor and all major components. Even original brakes. No car is perfect though, but I have had the best luck with Priuses for super low maintenance and cost of ownership. Can’t speak for all Toyotas but I know v6 Camry’s are also rock solid
To me, the "problems" are not really problems. Comparing a Toyota with the premium segment is the problem. If you want a luxurious Toyota, get a Lexus. That is why they have both brands... However, I agree cutting the silhouette in the back cutting off the headroom and the boot space is not a great move. The probably did it to increase the efficiency.
The Prius is its own beast at this point its not luxury like an escalade or something but its better than a base corolla which it looks luxurious next to when you look at the level of tech. It almost aboht costs a lucury level wallet if you ever have to repalce that battery man
you might get more subscribers if you just review the car as opposed to complaining about it.. this seems like a video where you are trying to sell Hyundais.. complaining about Toyotas is a tough thing considering their reliability has stood the test of time.
Exactly Toyota owners know ! The Prius Prime is an amazing vehicle made with great performance, quality design in Japan 🇯🇵. The engine to EV transition is smooth as silk , 40 real miles on all Electric ⚡️ with real instant torque at low speeds , makes for fun driving. Highway driving is Performance if one chooses !!! 2024 7,000 miles … ❤
i'm still buying the base SE prime lol, great looks, best gas savings, highest HP for "cheap" compact hybrid, top reliability and $7000 government EV rebate. Nothing else beats it
Год назад
The rebate does not apply for prius since its a japanese imported car. Forget about that. Get a Tesla 3 instead if you want that tax credit, btw its 3500 for most of the cars and 7000 for some specific trims and models. I love the New Prius, but I have the feeling I'm paying too much for it. Ill probably go for the elantra hybrid facelifted lauching this year in the States
@ the dealership helped me complete and applied the $7,000 rebate already when I pre order the prius prime, all plug in hybrids gets the rebate. It doesn't apply to you if you're not in canada

@@XMG3 wow, that's freaking awesome news... any state works? I'll get mine too if it applies to Florida

@@XMG3 ohhhh , Canada... now I read it... in USA the rules ares different. But what a good deal u got
The only negative is the horrific lack of inventory. We are almost in October and not a single dealer near me has had one on the lot. That’s a huge turnoff and makes me want to get something else.
Agreed. Ordered mine in the LA metro area in March 2023 and got a call yesterday that they had a car for me. However, it was only because someone else cancelled their order that was ahead of me on the list. So I got lucky too.
Uh of course they don't have any. Hot new redesign. You have to order or catch one in transit to dealer and put down payment on to get one. Same with any other popular car these days. I only had to wait a month luckily. Worth the wait. Patience young Padawan. Patience.
You forgot a really important drawback. Availability, and Toyota Dealers adding upcharge markups. Where I live, the dealership cannot even get them. According to the Sales Manager, only major markets are getting any of them, so if you want one, you may have to drive to a big city to get one. The Big City Dealers are adding 5000 to 10000 dollar markups, AKA market adjustments. The 28000 may be more like 38000 to actually buy. So, no thanks for now. I will keep driving my 2007 Prius. It still does great.
I live in Houston and while it did take until July to get one, I paid MSRP. There were 3 other dealers that wanted a markup and told them to get lost lol we gotta stop paying markups. Let them drown in unsold inventory.
@@williamboren4579 I did the same thing. We have only one Toyota dealer in my town but I went to one that was 35 miles away and couldn't be happier with it. The owner of the dealership I purchased the Prius from does not allow mark-ups on his new vehicles.
It's a Toyota, not a Lexus. It won't be a premium vehicle along with the rest of their lineup. Now, if Toyota made a Lexus version of the Prius, then that would be much better.
Gee, I just checked the Toyota website and there was only $7,000 between the bottom and top trim levels - not the $15,000 you are complaining about. Makes me wonder if you actually work for some other car maker and are trying to sway buyers with false information. The things you complained about are NOT problems. The Prius is NOT a high end luxury car and if that is what you want, buy a Lexus.
I ordered a 2023 Prius LE in April of 2022. Yes, prices have indeed gotten a little crazy on new vehicles but for the reputation of Toyota for durabliy over other makers, I choose Toyota. The 6-way manually adjustable drivers seat, along with the tilt/telescopic steering wheel easily overcome the line of sight defect of the instrument cluster. There are 2 USB-C ports under the armrest in the center console, allowing you to charge your phone so the convenience of wireless is no big deal. Yes, even with the windows up, road noise is significant for a luxury vehicle but about normal for a small high-mileage (70 mpg typical) vehicle. All in all, I think the points made are comparing apples and oranges; expecting high end luxury from a lower-end vehicle. That is not to say that it deosn't have it's share of problems. Fuel mileage is great and performance is fantastic for a 4 cylinder but the electronics have their share of troubles. Entertainment/information systems that get trapped in endless boot cycles, loose/defective rack mounts causing the vehicle to brake unexpectedly, rear door locks that can short out opening the door unexpectedly, and others. One specific was the rear hatch lower moulding. It lacks adequate support for the shock of closing the hatch so that it vibrates until it cracks; this was NOT covered under warranty and ran over $500 to replace!
Over the past 15 or so years, ive noticed that with every update or change they put in new models to make them exciting, they usually break or remove features that everyone wants. It’s some sick game.
I’m average height person, have no issues at all with the information cluster being behind the steering wheel, this is my 3rd Prius, they are not a luxury car, they are will not win races, etc, but no other car can beat the fuel efficiency, cheap maintenance, etc.
I have a Prius. I have had my own share of different cars and brands in my life time, and this is the MOST trouble free car I ever owned. My thing is reliability/hassle freeness, more than anything. I hate taking cars in for repairs. BTW, I never thought of Prius as a luxury item, but a reliable tool for transportation.
I hate the new gauge cluster. That's my only complaint after sitting inside the new Prius, coming from someone who gas owned a 2nd and 3rd Gen. The gauge cluster should be placed back where it used to be. It sticks up, obstructing view as well as making the driver more distracted trying to see it behind the steering wheel. If they'd change that, the new Prius would be about as good as it can get.
I've heard this complaint over and over and I'm just not getting it. Maybe because I have the limited and have a power seat. I never liked the display over to the right of the driver. It made me crazy.
That's amazing. The waitlists seem much longer than that. I was #1 in line for the new one, took 5 months, almost 6 but 11 months in total since I was waiting since July of last year. Most that come are LEs, but I have an XLE.
You don't buy a toyota because you want a luxury car. You buy a toyota because of its reliability and price. I'll have to say. My 2023 prius limited awd. Is close to luxury cars. All these new luxury cars are built cheap. I was kinda bummed the the cargo area was decreased. But I mostly commute just myself
1: its not a luxury car. If youre looking to get a hybrid luxury car with the same reliability get a UX Lexus hybrid. Aint no way youre comparing a Hyundai and Toyota.
Thank you so much for this video. I have a 2018 Prius, which I love. And I usually keep my car for 10 years. Still, I was curious about the 5th generation. You have confirmed a lot of my concerns. It is too low, with huge blind spots, and much smaller interior spaces. For me, a big issue has always been interior noise. And you answered that question for me! No 5th generation for me. I'll wait till the 6th generation.
I have ordered a 2023 Prius some time ago. Toyota continues to promote a very beautiful car with very little actual production. I get how COVID-19 changed everything. But Toyota better wake up!
I've had many prius in the past, the most recent was a 22 prius prime limited. I traded it in for the 23 prius prime xse premium. The trunk space improved greatly going from this big lumpy thing in the 22 to an indented space with the 23. With the 22 limited, you'd think they would put their high end technology package in there. Did they? Nope. They had Android Auto for the base model and that was it. I'll say this about the 23: the Android Auto playing music is fine, but if a companion wants to watch a video (with audio), it will not let you control the volume, even when there's sound coming from the speakers. Sometimes you can, but it's a 50:50 shot. The buttons for the drive mode, traction control, etc is in a horrible spot if you have to reach for something on the passenger side. All in all, it's a very outstanding vehicle.
I think The most annoying flaw in the Prius is that the door locks are not automated. Almost every modern car locks the doors once you start driving, and unlocks them once you turn off the car or open a door. Not the Prius, you can go from a state to another with the doors unlocked if you don't intentionally lock them. WHYY???
If you take in account of the very high insurance, the money you save on gas doesn’t make it any more economical, but except that I’m having electronic problems right now, I love my 2023 Prius excl aw drive.
Many people complain about the cluster location. I’m 6’ 0” and I sit fully upright when driving. I have my seat as low as it will go and I haven’t had any difficulty seeing my gauge cluster. In the traditional setup I always found myself ducking down to see under the top edge of the wheel. So for me this is a welcome change. But the wireless charger. The main complaint I see and have is that almost all phones just won’t charge in the #uselesscharger. iPhone, android, doesn’t matter, very few models charge and almost no phones will charge in a case. Other than that, none of the “issues” in this video bother me or most other gen 5 Prius owners.
The price is always an issue. I recently noticed the liftgate black plastic trim cracked from closing vibrations. Toyota has not issued a TSB or anything on this. I figured I had 8 year B2B coverage so it should have been a warranty replacement; WRONG! The B2B warranty does NOT cover trims! The third brake light, liftgate release, and rear camera are all molded into this trim! The result was a repair bill over $400! Now at 12,800 miles, the radio reboots, operates for 50 seconds, then goes black and reboots cyclically.
Problems? Toyota plastics may be basic, but after 7 years my Prius 4 appears brand new. Same for all Toyota models. Noise issue? sure when I drive a normal car I do not hear my children that piss me off rapidly in my Prius.... :D. I do not understand comparison between Toyota and Hyundai honestly, owned a Hyundai and it has been the last. I do not see the problems mentioned in this video....Prius 4 remains great, Prius 5 amazing!
Apparently all reviewers are finding the mpg is FAR less then the estimate. Also "okay" seats that are "better than Corolla but not up to the ones in the Elantra". CVT is also robbing the feeling of "power" which Toyota made important over mileage and this is reflected in pretty much all the praise from people - talking about the performance numbers and not pretty mediocre mileage people are getting. The Sonata is an excellent choice instead - they said compared to the Elantra, it is wider interior, more luxurious interior, more power, and availability (its exterior was NOT popular, but with the refresh coming that is extremely likely to change). So the Sonata is the diamond in the rough - they also said the Kona is a good choice for cargo space etc. Elantra Hybrid is better mpg in "real world" .. just look up Alex on Autos .. he said the Prius is rated higher BUT people are getting far less AND the Elantra tends to beat the estimated mileage.
Your pricing in the beginning of the video and at the end are inconsistent. You feign outrage at the cost for the high end at the beginning but at the end its the usual Toyota step - not at all as extreme as indicated. Seems like a hit piece in my opinion.
I've sold Toyota, Hyundai and Honda. No Hyundai, Kia or Genesis for me. Especially after that $1.3 billion settlement only 2 years ago for ENGINE FIRES!!!. Yeah, that's billion with a "B".
My 2023 Prius has unexpectedly gone from 51 mpg to 42 mpg. Can't figure out why. I had a 2020 Hyundai Ioniq and all around it was a much better car. 65 mpg, more comfortable, roomier, better ergonomics, smoother ride, etc... I like the Prius but loved the Ioniq
You are comparing a Hyundai to a Toyota? I mean come on, Toyota is the Pioneer of hybrid technology. I would only buy a Toyota hybrid. I actually bought my first Prius and I bought it for one thing, reliability and its gas saving features. I have no passengers and all the things you listed I have no concern with. I came from a Lexus RX350 and I think the interior is fine. What you failed to mention is that the new Prius has more power and better handling than the old generations. Yeah the blind spot of the gauges is a bit of an issue, but you move the panel over and can see what you need. IMO they should have used a heads up display on the windshield, but maybe come later. You are paying Toyota quality, if you want garbage, buy the Hyundai.
Why don’t you talk about that you could get 100 km on a single charge and the solar panels that are built into the roofline that charges the battery while you’re at work without getting plugged in free charging
This video is like trying to market the 2023 Prius to NBA players. There is no need to worry all of the m i d g e t s there is still a lot of space still for them big heads.
I think about this Prius as clearly the ‘sports’ Prius. In the world of Prii, this is a very fast car, and the looks seem much more like say, a future Ford Puma. I think they should still sell something that looks like the older model, but have this as the ‘Prius GT’ or similar. Then, nobody would give a darn about reduced rear headroom, etc. Mainly I don’t think this replaces the Prius at all, it’s a different breed altogether. Toyota say sales were falling, and the lurch to SUV is something they have to follow. So the fact every other car has a hybrid version in the Toyota family, means they feel they’ve ‘normalised’ hybridisation. Which in fact, they have. Suzuki say every one of their cars is now hybrid as standard for example. But nobody does it like the older breed of ‘normal’ Prii do, and most owners love the things. They are actually a very independent-minded bunch. An upward nod of the head is all I give to people who slight them. It’s fine, I don’t mind you don’t want one. My Prius purchase of a gen 3 model was guaranteed, once I found out they’d put together an automatic transmission, but minus a whole laundry-list of fragile aspects: torque convertor; clutches and friction plates; hydraulic signal circuit. Just planetary gears constantly meshed and no shifts and two motor-generators. Then there’s the ‘deletion’ of any kind of belt drive for the ancillaries like aircon and power steering. It is literally the best-designed and made car I have ever owned. I’ve done 100mph in it and I’ve tootled in it, I’ve carried someone on student moving day, and I’ve managed by 1mm to fit a fridge-freezer in it. There’s nothing I need to do, it cannot manage. Take care all.
My complaint is fuel economy is very disappointing. Not even close to 52mpg. I average 41mpg. Engine noise and brake noise when going in reverse. Took it to the shop they say nothing is wrong. I was sold to get over 600 mile but I'm only getting 350 to 400 in full tank. Now I'm stuck with a car that I'm not happy with.
Hardly think this review is appropriate for this car; nobody buys a Prius for luxury or cargo space. It’s a very basic, practical and reasonably priced car for daily driving! The Hyundai comparison is laughable, when Toyota quality is leaps and bounds ahead in reliability!
Great aerodynamic performance cross country driver. Not everyone is built like Shrek. Best purchase yet. My drift car and my zx14r spank anything but I am glad Toyota finally built this. All they need to do now is build a better MR2. I had a 1985 and 1991 MR2 and a 1999 Tacoma lowrider and 2003 14" stretched Hayabusa. Traded the Taco for my drifting machine and love driving the Prius. I look at it as the modern VW bug for all it's worth. I've driven and ridden and flown in a whole lotta factory and custom vehicles including big rigs and the whole 9. If it was up to me Miata kart like rides would be the next factory wave. At least give us rocket pilots affordable. options; not everyone has plantation money.
Would it be possible to include a baby seat on the rear seats while driving next time? This is a prius not a sports car so I hope that request makes sense. Toyota did a great job with the new prius but they need to stop reducing the following: headroom, leg room for the rear passengers/driver, spare tire, and TRUNK SPACE!!! Or... Why not make a two door prius like a miata at this point. Make it light, low, and add a manual drive shaft with a 6 speed (CVT cars are boring in my opinion but the reliability is the reason why I keep it). Hopefully the Prius GR will come with a 6 speed manual transmission (HAHAHAHAHA). #dadlife
So, tried it out before buying .. none...NONE of these "issues" are big issues.. sone aren't in any way. The instrument cluster isn't an issue. Too busy? Then you didn't read the instructions derp!.. You can change it. Can't see it? move this steering wheel It is amazingly fexable. For a 5'10" person or taller its not even the slightest problem. So wtf? Slightly smaller trunk? Note the slightly.. and note the previous Prius model had an absolutely large truck. This Just brings it in line with other cars of the similar size.. The Camry has a 14 cubic foot trunk. Honda Accord has about 17.. sooo ? A body redesign requires differences. Go fig? Still larger than most. The backseats, If you're 6 ft and over it might be in a issue. Oh wait You have extra legroom.. slide your butt forward a little bit , no problem then. It's also a medium sized car. IE you're going to either have cramped headspace or leg space.. or bolth.. They swapped the headspace for the leg space this time around.. Engine noise? Seriously? Have you driven up Prius? Price? This one's a pure joke as everyone else is talking about the Prius being an amazing price point for what you get. (Also taking a nod to the superior longevity of the car) So .sure . no car is perfect.. but making these out to be horrible issues is laughable. Most aren't even an issue and some can be for a limited number of people. It good to stay informed .. particularly the ergonomics.. You actually need to sit in it... But that's no different from any car. Maybe stop with the drama!?
Eh most of these I expect with the Prius. This is a cheap boring car that’s small. Efficiency is top priority. The instrument cluster is the only serious point on this list to me. Gen 3 with 340,000 here.
I looked at the 24 Prius Limited and wound up buying the 24 Corolla Hybrid XLE due primarily to lack of visibility out the back window and seeing the gauge cluster was impossible for me at my vertically challenged height (5'6"). Also, in So CA the mark up, er dealer adjustment, is insane. A minimum of $3K PLUS dealer installed options of not needed items (door edge guards, bumper lamination, etc.) made the total price $8K+ over the Corolla. I did have to drive 238 miles to get the Corolla at MSRP however as it had a markup locally of $1,500 and the XLE model wasn't available within a 200 mile radius. Sure the Limited looks much better but with leather, optional JBL 800 watt 9 speaker stereo and visibility I'll settle for the boring Corolla. Plus gas mpg is probably equivalent and at 900+ miles I'm at 58.6 mpg. If it was at MSRP without dealer installed options I would have bought the Limited but alas it wasn't meant to be.
