7 Problems With The 2024 Audi Q7 You Must Know!
The Audi Audi Q7 is a family midsize luxury SUV that catches the eye with its gorgeous interior, good performance and silky smooth ride. However, if you’re after a new one in 2024, you should also find out what might be lurking beneath that plush surface. Here are the 7 main problems with the Audi Q7 based on reports and stories from owners of the current generation.
Over-complicated and unreliable infotainment system
Audi’s interior is dominated by two big screens, which, in all fairness, look awesome. But when you actually start using them, you’ll find they hide an overly-complicated interface, with complex menus and settings that can become quite a challenge to handle, especially while driving.
Spoiler alert! They freeze up all the time.
The MMI system - which stands for Multi Media Interface - is supposed to run everything, from your favorite tunes and car settings to your GPS and navigation needs. They even have their own MMI satellite-view navigation system providing rich dynamic displays with street speed limits and all. However, you’ve gotta pay 85 bucks every month for it. That’s steep, and did we mention “monthly”?
The system is not without faults. You can’t punch in a new destination while driving, sometimes it forgets your saved locations, and it’s such a struggle to hook up your phone. Current 2021-2023 Q7 owners also complain about the MMI taking ages to initialize when you hop in your car. Every time you get in, you have to wait between 2 and 5 minutes for the screens to load up all the data. If it loads it up, because we’ve seen numerous reports from users who complain about the screens getting stuck in the initializing phase.
And there’s the phone connectivity drama which we dare say it’s a common issue on most Audis. If you lose your phone signal, chances are the MMI interface disconnected it. But when you really don’t want to connect any phone, the car keeps asking you to do so. A nagging message pops up on the main screen asking you to connect your phone. Playing games, Audi?
The big issue is that everything in the car is run by these two huge touchscreens. So if the control screen freezes or just goes blank, as it has happened to many Q7 owners, you can’t adjust the air temperature, ventilation, AC, radio, garage door opener, cameras, to name a few.

I work for Audi and the mmi system is super stable

You may work there but, us the customers are saying something totally different, I own 3 Audi's Q3, Q5, and Q8 and they all have those issues, Crash and seat belt tightening expectantly are frequent. Going to work in NYC at 3am in the morning driving my Q3 "daily driver" I went up an incline and was about to descend over it when the sensor scan an over pass about 15-25ft ahead it activated the crash alert and slammed on the brakes, thank god it was 3am and there where no other vehicles on the highway at the time. It also did the same thing whiles driving on a curvy road one night it scan the metal railing ahead and slammed on the brake after flashing the collision warning. If there's an emergency and you have to quickly change lanes, the system will fight you, pushing you back into lane especially if you did not turn on your indicator. There are times when I'm perfectly centered in lane and the lane departure warning goes on both the Q8 and Q3 makes no sense. I had to take both Q3 and Q8 because the driver assist simple stop working. I had zero lane assist, cruise control, & driver warning alert. they had to re-install the software to get them both to work claim it was an upgrade, but the issues persist. and when it rains don't even get me started all safety features are down on all the cars even my daughters Q3, my sisters and all 3 of my cars. love Audi's they have some of the nicest designs and interiors, but the MMI system needs lots of work, can't use most features when driving.

I have owned Audi’s for years and never had any problems with the MMI system. The interior cabin is lacking storage, but the driver has a compartment to the left of the steering column to store things. Which I think is better because it is missed by most thieves if someone breaks into your car. The 4 cylinder engine lacks power and doesn’t save gas, get the six cylinder or jump to the SQ7 which have 500hp. The sensors work but will occasionally malfunction when you come out of a car wash or get wet. But they do work in the rain. I believe it is because while driving the water is not just sitting on the sensor. I have no problems out of my Audi and would recommend this vehicle over Mercedes and BMW because the build quality of Audi’s are great. I have never heard any rattles in my cabins. When you drive an Audi you will understand why Audi owners have loyalty to the brand.

i bought it and the the 4 cylinder seems enough for a dailiy drive and even when traveling there is no need to speed more than 160km . but let me till you the lane assist is so strong that i almost depend on it fully i even use my phone on occasions while traveling which is sth i was never confident to do except in my beutiful s line .

Trivial observations in general. The only observation I agree with is that the four cylinder engine is a little under powered for a car of this size however it is adequate for general use. Overall the current Q7 is a great car.

If one finds MMI hard to use in current gen Q7, they should stay in the 90s.

I just got the 2024 Q7 55 at the end of December 2023 and have only 1600 miles on it as of today. I love the car (coming from driving a 2013 Honda Odyssey). However, I had a line across the top display and had Audi replace it. They had provided me with a 2023 Q7 45 loaner for the week. The first thing I noticed about the 45 (in comfort and dynamic mode) was when you step on the gas pedal from a full stop, I felt more resistance than my 55. My wife also noticed the difference after we got the 55 back and after having had the chance to drive a 45. Her question to me was "I noticed it before but why does stepping on the gas pedal in our 55 feel loose like a video game pedal?" I agree with her. I noticed that from a stop position, as I gradually increase the pressure on the gas pedal, you feel the car accelerate slowly for the first second before you begin to feel the "true" acceleration. But it is a very smooth acceleration through out. (Note: Auto Start/Stop was disabled) Dynamic mode is a bit more sensitive but pedal still feels loose / less resistance on the foot. Has anyone experienced this and is this normal?

None of the things mentioned in the “Poor Reliability” section have anything to do with reliability…

We've had constant problems with the MMI in out 2023 Audi Q7. It gets stuck during initialization, sometimes it can't switch users as well as other problems. When it works it's good, but when it doesn't it's useless. We've also had problems with the Presense system when someone turning is approaching from the left. Slamming on the brakes very aggressively. Earlier versions apparently allowed the user to set the sensitivity but not any more. The dealer's only suggestion was to turn off PreSense, one of the cars major safety systems. Audi Care was also useless in trying to resolve this issue.

Agree with the pre sense malfunction. Got my 2023 Q7 last year. The pre sense malfunctions popped up within 3 weeks, and kept coming back every week. Sent the car back to dealer at 500miles. They claimed it was the battery low voltage. Then they recharged the battery and clear the code. After 3k miles/4 months. It pops up again. I just gave up on fixing it now. 😢 Also agree on the aggressive lane keeping assistance. Very annoying especially approaching curves.

Agree with most of what’s been said in the video. I have a 23 Q7 and have been driving it for just over 1 year. Storage space is painfully lacking in the front, coffee cup holders are tiny, lane keeping assist is not just a pain but dangerous and the MMI is indeed quite unpredictable. It’s nice when it works. CarPlay has not worked since we bought the car. I disagree the 2 L 4 cylinder engine is underpowered. It’s smooth and peppy. Maybe underpowered if you want to haul a boat or drive like a maniac but more than adequate for everyday use. I don’t know where the $83/mo subscription cost is coming from. I’ve paid $350 or so for the year and have no complaints. The Bang and Olufsen speakers are truly outstanding and the car has a really well designed audio system overall.

I have owned Audis and currently owning a Q7 and a q5 . There are zero issues and the cars have been always reliable BUT I strongly advice 1) always use the official dealer and follow the service book STRICTLY 2) don’t tune the cars except if it’s ABT or MTM. The only issue I had was with my 2013 model RS5 which got the gear select sensor and the mechatronic unit replaced at 100k km. With a cost of that time at 4.5k euros (with the opportunity I changed the clutches also) . The other was a faulted parking back sensor , replaced without cost

I do have issues with the lack of storage in the front and my main gripe would be the engine oil burning out after every 5,000kms or 3,000 miles.

I bought a brand new Q7 in 21 and have had no issues with the car itself. The MMI is quite awesome, but sometimes updates are needed for the system. But you drop it off and get a loaner for a day. Also this whole video is grossly Overstated. These problems do not exist to anything close to this degree. The system loads in seconds and connects your phone automatically, without a cable. The map is free, but can enhance it with a $39 subscription with wifi and active street sign/ light timers. The ride is super quiet, brakes stop faster than any vehicle I've ever owned and nothing in the car squeaks! I'm next Audi is a Q8 one my lease is completed. This whole video is a 1000% troll job, trust me.

I like the interior except the extensive use of piano black. Many other manufacturers have started to move away from this trend, hope Audi catches up fast.

This video is bogus..i have had sq8 and sq7 and the mmi works great. I rarely if ever have an issue. Other than fingerprints it works well and is better than some more recent tough screens.

These complaints must be from 2 people that had a lemon because I’ve only experienced 1 of these issues and that’s getting crumbs out of the seats easily.

I have been driving a 2024 Q7 for about 2 weeks now, and the pre-sense features goes ballistic if you have any snow or debris on the sensors, had to hold the stability button down for 5-10 seconds to deactivate it. On a cold 25 degree morning, after 30 seconds of driving to a busy intersection I got a message saying the engine won’t rev past 1,800 RPMs and when I attempted to pull into traffic I was limited to 10 mph while being honked at and flipped off. The only good things I can say about latest Audi Q7 is the sound system is great and the ride quality is decent. Keep your $60k-$75k far away from the Q7

That’s really strange , I had really no issues whatsoever in the 16 years that I drive only various models of Audis including now a q7. You should go to the dealer and plug it so they can read the errors . Cold isn’t affecting Audis really as Audi itself is testing them on their track which is…full of snow :) Even more strange is how the limp mode gets you to 1800rpm and not higher , what engine you have ? I am with the 3.0 petrol, 55 tfsi

@@nikolaosezikis7622 I’m no stranger to Audi neither, had a 2013 A7, never gave me problems other than an down pipe issue. It’s the newer 21-24 year models that are annoying and flat out terrible. Im not the only person who has issues with the Audi “ pre-sense” system . Like I said the system mistakes snow and dirt on the sensors as near miss objects causing the brakes to pulsate and the steering wheel to jerk. Luckily you can disable this feature, but it you also disables traction and ABS.

Not sure really have no issues with it in both q7 and q5 me and the wife are driving (2021 and 2023 year models) . We do drive in snow and dirt not in daily basis though. Never heard the pre sense complain. Check with the dealer for control unit faults or any updates . Also you can ask the dealer to calibrate the system in case the camera of the pre sense on the windscreen is no calibrated. Hope you resolve it

This guy is hilarious. How about you get to own one first and tell us directly. Get some facts together If you’re going to be credible so that you may be 😂informative. “ Based on reports and stories from owners” is a farce. I can tell you I own one and the screens and navigation are world class have never had one hiccup and updates are without monthly subscriptions.
