The YB, over 30 years old and still one of, if not the best 2 litre engine ever produced. You also missed the Lotus Twin Cam as it was actually Cosworth who fixed what was a very poor performing engine that Lotus sent to Ford so they asked Cosworth to step in and fix it.

Very nice that the Cosworth Vega is in there. I have owned two, still have one. Not much in the power department at first, but I put short track cams and twin Weber DCOE's on it, and it came up to 160 Hp. The Cosworth Vega was also a very nice handling car.

My 90 year old Grandad worked at ford in England with Keith and Mike, said they were a wealth of knowledge. Dyno days spent with them in the competition department were some of his favorite times. At the same time its a little sad that alot of these memories go with the people that started them. Ford still provide him with a cheap new car every 3 years for his work with them... Bet they didn't allow for him to still be driving..

I tried one, once, it is really surprisingly friendly for normal driving - my grandmother would be able to drive it to go shopping, and not realize that it wasn't a normal car! It only unleashes the beast if you ask for it (but then it's completely mental, went from 20-200 in 12 seconds or so!)

Kris Nicholson show me a b5 rs4 for 12.5k euro? and the a6/allroad biturbo is exactly the same as the non cosworth standard 2.7 in the b5 s4. they even have k03 turbochargers, not the bigger k04 in the rs4. they also almost always have a tiptronic transmission instead of the 6mt

Keeping it civil guys i have an s4 2.7tt and i believe theyre still developed by cosworth but essentially with smaller ports. (Internals arent quite as strong but hey 500hp isnt bad from a 2.7) The "base" 2.7 is also much preferred for road driving as low down torque is vastly improved and with a set of new turbos and a few supporting mods 450hp is very easily achieved! And to your comment on price comparing a a6 or allroad to a rs4 is a little wrong as theyre completely different animals. Good rs4s can be had for 20k pounds and top draw i would say 30k is the most you want to be paying. If you want one look on audisrs forum best place to look

so glad to see the 20xe engine in a video. the last good opels that was made,. here in south africa there are some limited ones that produced 125kw and 230nm torque. engines ahead of their time.

My folks bought a Vega wagon when my mom was pregnant with me. Because my dad understood what happens when aluminum and iron overheat, he kept water in the car meticulously and never allowed it to overheat. Only reliable Vega ever made, I think. It's too bad the Cossie Vega was made after the revised 'crash bumper' front end had debuted, as the earlier front shared a familial resemblance to the early 2nd gen Camaro and looked so much nicer. But that John Player Special-inspired paint looked sharp!

I'm actually glad you didn't claim 190E 2.5 -16 as a Cosworth ,because it isn't as most people would like to say. Yes the 2.5 had Cosworth sticker for the western market.Same as Any sport-ish Kawasaki in US has Ninja on it. Because they buy it for it.

If I remember correctly, Cosworth likes to have the crank bearing cap bolt holes non-perpendicular to the deck (angled out) so that it creates a compression force and further strengthens the engine blocks.

I had an early mk2 Astra GTE 16 valve, with the Coscast head (20XE). It was the best 16 valve of the time, 156 BHP and 144 lbft as standard (which was the highest torque per litre for years, until a Ferrari beat it) It was restricted by the Vauxhall injection, which if changed for carbs gave 190 BHP or throttle bodies 200+BHP with no other changes. In touring car racing the same engine was putting out 300 BHP!!! The later C20XE engine wasnt as strong or well engineered and was lower on power and tuneability.

The problem with the car was that it just couldn't put the power down and handling was far from good, sadly. Defo the best 2.0 16 valve for years though.

What a shame Ford never used the Cosworth GAA in any production car, a Naturally aspirated 3412cc DOHC 24v V6 based on the Ford Essex V6 block which revved to 9000rpm and put out over 450Hp, in 1973!!!, they sound simply incredible.

Cosworth is very similar to AMG, in many respects. Wish we had gotten a Cosworth version of the Scorpio and XR4Ti back in the late 80s. Would have been real fun to drive and ride.

xr4ti was as good as the development car for the sierra cosworth the used it in touring car racing for a while before stepping up with the rs500: ) and u can definately get a scorpio cosworth 2.9 24v v6 used to be fuck loads of them about up untill the fucking scrappage scheme came along in 2004 and stole all the quality old motors from us, u used to be able to get a half decent 2wd saffire cosworth for £900 to £1000!!

You missed one BCY Engine of 2002-2004 Audi RS6Acccording to Audi Magazine (UK), it goes something like this... Audi AG ship S6 engine innards to Cosworth. Cosworth cast new block in patented rolling die and assemble engine, add turbos and bench test. The engine is then shipped to Neckarsulm. quattro GmbH take engine and mate it to ZF gearbox and drop into S6 body on Audi's A/S6 production line where the interior, drive train, brakes and some temporary wheels are fitted, and the car is driven at walking pace to quattro GmbH's unit. quattro GmbH add the intercoolers, DRC and the rest of the interior fit and finish. Finally, it is tested on a rolling road, given final inspection and is then driven on a road course to check that everything is in working order.forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/205716.phtml

I'm pretty sure it was only on a manufacturing/casting basis using the coscast technology and not design or development related engineering.

Fun fact. The c20xe's cylinder head was basically a copy of a Peugeot xu9j4 (mi16) cylinder head. The pug head will fit the vauxhall block with a locater dowel removed

The Audi engine had infact 4 turbos. They called them biturbo the small ones spooled up first and the bigger ones "took over" at a certain rpm. Not the same as twinturbo, twin turbo are as the name emplies twins, same specs.

What I mean is the two turbos in for example a 2JZ-GTE is the same size and each collects exhaust from 3 cylinders. If the audi was a twin turbo there would be a single turbo on each exhaust side. And that would be a twin turbo. But the biturbo is made up of 2 turbos put together and the small one spools up first naturally and when it's at max boost the bigger one is getting into boost.

Rune Andre Bergtun I understand but there's 2 types of twin-turbo, sequential and parallel. I'm trying to say all that not all cars that have a "twin turbo" badge are a parallel setup.
