You got me at the first one. Lots of boxing and martial arts gyms focus on conditioning 80-90% of the class conditioning is important and you should not feel it easy but it shouldn't take all your energy another red flag in my opinion is no free classes they wanna make sure you pay for something you don't know how it is right away

A martial arts gym charged 175 for a week intro. For bjj , judo , and Muay Thai. I was taken back because most give a week free

I disagree with the pros point, my first gym ever had no pros, just amateur fighters, and it is still the best boxing gym I have ever been to, and I’ve tested approximately 20 or something gyms at this point. I had to leave that gym because I moved unfortunately

Great tips, thank you. Unfortunately, I am stuck with only one boxing gym in my town that is like 50/50 conditioning and training. I wish they teach more boxing skills than throwing little tips here and there, but I think it is ok for now.

Well if youre a beginner after you learn basics focusing on conditioning is important to be ready for your first sparring sesh!!

At least its 50/50 that doesn't sound so bad especially if you're not quite fit yet

what about a gym that doesn't show you anything unless you pay for a one on one? and then after the one on one they don't watch you or give you ques when you're working the heavy bag? not saying they should be watching me 24/7 or be going super in-depth with me all day everyday, but i went to a gym and they showed me literally nothing. just sold me hand wraps and i paid for a one on one for the absolute basics assuming they'd work with me further after that here and there, but the one on one was pretty sub-par, and they very rarely come up to me/watch me on the heavy bag, if at all. even after expressing how i want to learn technique and footwork, no drills or anything they've given me to work on. pretty de-motivating.

What they did at my old gym was I was recently coming back I had no way to get there. Coaches already knew who I was but when I was gonna spar for the 1st time in 2 months, I was put with a dude heavier than me. I obviously got whooped and then the next time I asked my coach can I spar with someone I can work with like a beginner or someone around my weight? My old coach had told me condition and let me know when ur ready. I sparred again anyways but of course with a dude heavier than me. I just ended up leaving the gym. Right call or no?

Good points, I disagree with the one about pros (I left another comment about it) here are some additional things I have noticed: 1. No variety of bags: i’ve walked into boxing gyms where all they have is a bunch of the same type of boxing bag. No water bag, no double-end, no slip bag. Definitely a red fag 2. When there is no head boxing coach and everyone there has their own personal trainer. The best boxing gyms are a community. 3. When the weight room is bigger than the boxing section. 4. When the person at the counter can’t answer the question, “When do you guys typically spar?” 5. When the coach says that for your first practice you have to just sit and watch everyone else to prove that you can take orders. (No joke, this really happened to me. I walk in for a free trial lesson and the coach said I just had to sit and watch. And all they did was core conditioning. What a joke.) 6. In contrast to the no pros, I would say the actual red flag is when there is no amateurs. 7. When the gym is not certified on usa boxing. 8. When the pricing system of membership is complicated and convoluted. Like bro we’re boxers, not mathematicians. 9. Lastly, you just want to make sure the vibes are good. I don’t even know how to explain, but I think in the best boxing gyms you can just tell that people work hard in there and the community is good.

I don’t train boxing to anyone that doesn’t put in the work. Been coaching 35 years. You better do your own cardio and conditioning. You’re incorrect about pros as well. If there are pros in a gym then you not going to get trained.
@D00Rb3LL
@D00Rb3LL 27 дней назад
Agree on the conditioning. My first (and best) coach had that philosophy. He was like, i’ll teach you the science, you got to do the conditioning on your own. (Of course the class sessions were still good workouts and he was a physical science person so gave advice and stuff to people about conditioning) and i also agree about the pros thing being a bad point. I would say, if there’s no amateurs than it’s a red flag, but no pros? Some people don’t live in an area where there are pros, and even if they did, there being pros isn’t really a make or break of a good boxing gym.

@@D00Rb3LL I guess how I explained the pro comment is incorrect. What I was trying to say that typically at a boxing gym, if there are pros then the coaches may not work with you. And you’re correct just because a gym doesn’t necessarily have pros it still can be a good thing

In my case is the same, but is MMA, MMA gyms in my city are surrounded with psychopaths, bad teaches, duck academies, neglecting treatments, toxic environments, mental toodlers and teenagers, no security in the training, emotional predators, bad advices, they don't help to their pupils, they wanna be payed and that's it, in my city I don't know a good MMA gym with minimal conditions

I thought this was gonna be an informative video and it’s a lot of conjecture while some of your points do have merit. A lot of them do not it amazes me what people think a real boxing gym needs to be to fit their criteria. I ask your experience level as a boxer, considering the title of your page, as I can’t fight.
