7 Scariest Zombies That Made Us Want to Stop Playing Immediately

‘You’d ask for your money back if the zombies didn’t show up in your zombie game’.. probably true.. but I do play most Resident Evil games thinking “god I hope that’s the last of that” after every zombie encounter..

Back when I was in School, I had a friend who was terrified of RE4's Regenerators, and I can do an accurate impression of one... So when I stayed at their house one night, I did that at about 4am in the morning to wake them up...

As a dying light veteran, I can confirm that I was so freaked out by my first encounter with a volatile that I had to pause the game and take a break because I screamed and fell out of my chair.

The stalkers in Last of Us Part 2 were kind of funny at times. I’d catch them hiding behind a chair or something just bouncing up and down like a little kid waiting to scare their parents.

Just going to say, the Regenerators have made it onto so many terrifying creatures lists that I have truly lost count. Kudos to RE4 for that one lol

Quick note on ReDeads: - In Ocarina of Time, they are indeed wearing masks. You can don a similar mask, known as the “Spooky Mask.” It plays a part in a sidequest that eventually unlocks the Mask of Truth. - OoT ReDeads’ status as actual undead is debatable as their Trophies in Super Smash Bros Melee and Brawl both state that they’re magically-animated mannequins simply fashioned after corpses. - This, however, makes the masks creepier as they are then basically confirmed to be burial masks either way, with the obtainable “Spooky Mask” even being said to have been carved from wood sourced from a coffin.

The Witch in Left4Dead always made my blood run cold when I heard her. She wasn't the scariest ever, but the crying/wailing leading up to it always made me rethink my decisions in life

I found The Molded from RE7 pretty spooky, from the design, the unexpectedness ones around the corners, to the sheer strength when going against normal pistol bullets.

Dead space still holds a terrifying spot in my "damn that's scary" list. Tlou infected is close to the top not only by looks but the sound of them scares me

I remember watching this videos years ago and it was 2am and I was scared at 15. I'm now 17 and it is almost 1am and it is also a school night. I actually bought dying light because of this and I actually love the game. Thanks outside xbox

LFD2 - The Jockey, no other zombie has caused me more pure anxiety in a game as hearing one but not knowing where it is.

Stalkers were a thing in the last of us part 1 they just weren’t talked about all that much

this video was hilarious 😂 the commentary/narration was impeccable, I will say though, that hotel level in LOU2 has to be top scariest levels of any game I've ever played personally, the stalkers played part in that for sure, I cant wait for a part 3 im praying they do make one, HBO dropping the series based on the game is gonna be awesome as well!

I remember playing TLOU 2's office level with the stalkers for the first time, all alone with the lights off. Sheer pant-shitting terror.

Regenerators really will forever take the cake on this one. Their theme song, their sound, the environment we meet them, everything is just hell about them. Have played through RE4 3 times this year and this part is what always gives me the creeps. I can't play the island part at night or alone And the iron maiden just makes you angry 🙃

Yo I just played RE4 for the first time knowing the regenerators were coming but they still spooked me. They give me so much anxiety. They look slow but move incredibly fast when they want to and shooting off their legs makes them move faster. They end up slithering like a snake instead. They are horrible and I love them

The scariest part of the regenerators is that I had no idea they could die so I tried to do the levels while they slowly lumbered at me.

Omg the Redeads.. thank you for that journey back into my childhood nightmares... The babies in Dead Space made me want to quit, but it was the ones who regenerated after having all of their extremities removed with a rail gun that made me say "nope"

ive been playing re 4 my whole life since it came out, and i cannot describe the feeling of pure dread that settles in my stomach and refused to leave when playing it yet again in VR, that childhood trauma of it really kicked in hard i guess

I love how Ocarina of time is here. The Re-Deads and Gibdos, ESPECIALLY the Deadhand are terrifying.

The flood are truly terrifying the more you go into details, but to me the major thing is that it was my first encounter with any zombie in my life since i was like 5-7 at the time you can guess how it went, in fact i didn't complete halo 1 because of them, and now i have no means to play it again

May be the problem with the fungi zombies is that the puns don't have enough variation. There are so many zombies in there, there's hardly shroom for anything else. He was turned to a zombie. NONE takes the spot of cliquers in the last of us part 1 and 2 , especially when fall off in the basement of the hotel to handful of rooms filled with stalkers . And the worst part is , when you activate the generator , hehe , even bloaters will arrive , and as a last of us veteran , I admit that this part spooks me to this very day

I thought I was the only one terrified of the redeads! Growing up playing Zelda that whole game was pretty creepy but the redeads took the cake!

The Headless from Sekiro, if they count as zombies, gave me a heart attack when I first waltzed into one of their arenas

For me, the fast zombies in ravenholm from HL2 actively slowed down my game pace because I was scared to continue at times

On Dead Space 2 crawlers made me go, "Oh hey a weapon." The Ubermorph was the true terror for me.

The air drop mission in dying light had my heart beating at 532 miles a micro second

The very first Resident Evil on Play Station 1. Back when you could rent games I picked it up. Tupperware party upstairs so I went down and fired it up. The moment (everyone might remember) when you go down the hall to the last bedroom and you catch a zombie chowing down on someone in the bed. When it turned around I hit the power button, ran upstairs, grabbed a beer and paced around for awhile. The company we had thought I was mental but up to that point my brain hadn't seen anything that nasty. Our brains are mush now and it takes something extraordinary to freak us out.

When I was 9 years old my parents got me resident evil for Christmas. My gaming experience up until then was crash bandicoot, rayman and age of empires, I didn't know horror games were a thing. in dying light those volatiles instantly make me leave even if i'm near them or i'll stay in a safe area the entire time and i love and hate at the same time that it shows their view on the mini map and i love it since i always know where they are as long as their on my mini map and i hate it because it makes them even scarier for some reason

The regemerators from R.E.4 is the most fear of all it gives me chill everytime i played and hear them coming around

The Elderscrolls: Oblivion - those zombies ignited my fear of zombies. They are awful. (Especially the headless ones) it's like "Hi, I'm zombo. I'm super slow and underwhelming... HAHAHA PSYCH IM ACTUALLY SUPER F****** FAST". Being an archer, the panic was real.

I still remember my first time playing through Half-Life 2 and getting to Ravenholm and hearing the howling of the fast zombies. At the time I naively thought that because I was in a room on a rooftop I was safe, until one burst through the ceiling and made me take a break for a week or two.

The opening to the crawler's section was hilarious; just seeing the dude back up and pause was like, yeah that's exactly what I would do

I have never swore and screamed so much as the first time I got chased by volatiles in dying light. Except for maybe the one time I accidentally ran into a horde and fell off my bike and had to run back to camp in Days Gone and somehow made it back alive.

When I saw Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time being mentioned here, I was surprised that the Dead Hand miniboss wasn't the one that was shown. That thing genuinely gave me a heart attack when I first played the game.

Multiple suggestions here for a commenter edition: 1. Weepers - Dishonored It took me so long to get over these things when i first played Dishonored, i’d always make sure to use the stop time ability just before i entered an area with weepers in it so that i didn’t have to fight those bastards- 2. Nest Keepers - Dishonored 2 While not as scary as weepers since they don’t attack, their real scare factor happens if they see you, they’ll scream and get every bloodfly in the area to sting you to death, and those things make my skin crawl...especially if they come in swarms... 3. EVERY. SINGLE. ZOMBIE. In CoD WW2’s “Nazi Zombies” multiplayer mode I remember screaming so much with my friend when we first played it together cuz of how creepy everything about the zombies were, And it got to the point where we just put the controllers down after we died and never touched that game mode again 4. Screamers - Dying Light It always took me days of mental preparation to take on the mission where you first meet one of those bastards... And the fact that it’s a CHILD just makes things worse... 5. Fallout 4 - Ghouls Specifically, the ones in Dunwich Borers, Ever since my first encounter with those things, i never went back there without Nick as my companion (or any companion for that matter...), and some heavy hitting weapons...

Also, I don't remember that room in OoT at all. It looks like the room under the grave in the Kakariko Graveyard where you can get a Hyrule Shield out of a chest though.

Scariest Zombies for me had to be the Licker from Resident Evil 2. I remember my first encounter with it. Played with my siblings and when we got that iconic cut-scene, oh my god, why did they threw the control to me?! Why!? This thing still haunts my nightmares and RE2 The Remake made it even worse. X_X

Mm. I gotta say the Raptor Morphs you encounter in Deadspace 2 got me pretty good. At first they just stare at you, and you think "huh. I guess they're waiting for a cinematic" then you hear the loud howl screeching of 4 of them and they rhino charge you like crazy psychopaths.
