I have the same ISOTune AirDefender and I have to be honest when I first ordered them I thought they would be a nuisance--wow was I wrong!!! I absolutely love them... I'll put them on when I'm putting finish on a project so I can listen to music and not annoy my wife with endless hours of Iron Maiden... they are comfortable (and I wear glasses) the charge lasts for 5+ days in the shop-I consider them one of my best purchases ever.

Fabulous video, I've never bought a product so fast in my life - the guidepro is great ! At our museum we have to cut a lot of smaller parts for historic instruments that have been eaten by woodworm etc, such as keys, moulding strips and so on, this thing is now in constant use on our bandsaw.

Oh wow the pocket hole jig is way cheaper than I was expecting. Sometimes “cheap” in woodworking means “under $100,” I didn’t expect it to be $30. Thanks for sharing it, I’m definitely going to pick one up!

In your video on 'Problems with planers and jointers with helical cutters' about 2 yrs ago. You had a comment on rust on the helical cutter heads if you had high moisture in the shop. I have a Woodmaster 18" planer I recently upgraded to their helical cutter head. When I first got my Woodmaster home, it had also included the sanding drum and gang saw. It had a solid steel bar that the drum mounted to it. To avoid the rust problem I sprayed the bare steel with spray layout blueing. It goes on very thin. It has not rusted and looks just as when I brought it home, in 1993.

I just bought a pair. I found that they do not play sound loud enough at all. My first time using them was snowblowing and i could barely hear what i was trying to listen to. What I usually do which is put in airpods and carefully fit a cheap pair of 3M earmuff protectors over top, which is frustrating to get the airpods to stay in my ear. But comparing the two, the 3M earmuffs + airpods block more noise and play sound louder. You don't have that kind of issue?

The Milescraft pocket jig is indeed a good value: I got mine as part of a set that included the holding clamp, which made it even a better value. One thing that impressed me is the depth stop collar on the drill bit: instead of being of the type with a set screw that digs into the drill bit (and tends to go askew if it clamps into the drill flutes), the collar itself is split and the screw draws the split closed to tighten. This doesn't damage the drill bit over time with little divots caused by the set screw digging in. Even the Kreg jig, if I'm not mistaken, doesn't use this type of collar.
@XxStupendousManxX
@XxStupendousManxX Год назад
It was unclear in the video, do you bottom out completely the drilling bit on the backside of the jig to use the stop collar position markings?

I've had a couple of the blade storage cases for at least ten years. The only thing I didn't like about them, and I see you did it too, is that blades come in contact with their neighbor. Carbide stored against steel or, worse, another carbide tooth isn't good for the blade. I went to the hardware store an bought some heavy 5/8" washers to separate the blades. Sometimes two are needed but it works really well.

I love the SaburrTooth carving tools, I have a few of their grinding cups that go on an angle grinder and use them to rough carve arched guitar tops and a few other things. I equipped my home made router table with geared screw adjustable fence and router adjustment and alignment rails to dial in the bit height and fence very accurately all from cranks at the front. I equipped it with digital linear motion calipers from iGaging (makers of the calipers shown here) that read to 1/1000", with the readouts also in front along with a low voltage circuit that turns on the vacuum with the router via solid state relays, LED fence and router end indicators to signal when I reach the fence and router ends, because the gearing that makes it easier to crank, and easier to over crank too, and some as main, router, and vacuum power indicators. Sorry to say, but the iGaging indicators were a waste of money. they are not well made at all: One crapped out not a month after installing it, and that with moderate use, the other one is showing signs of cheep silicone syndrome: That means the IC Chips were made with silicone that has too many impurities to work well. Impurities can contribute to circuit path degradation, and it flips out sometimes, and of course when you need them most. They also go through those button batteries like a kid through candy on Halloween, but I fixed that by omitting the battery, two wires out a hole in the readout casings to the same transformer and a voltage split circuit on the power supply for everything else. Big disappointment. I can't say anything about those calipers in the video, but after that experience I just can't trust them. That plane looks wicked good though, but a bit over my budget for now.

CoolTools shows are a must see for tool freaks like myself. I would appreciate it if you could do a review of compasses accurate enough for woodworking. Why you may ask: While making five-star knobs I needed to inscribe a regular pentagon in a specific size circle, then perform the geometry procedure to determine the pentagon side length. Precision is critical and that means a stable compass during rotation and a sharp pin-point marker, which means easy and quick sharpening. Just an idea, throw it into the hat, it just may get picked. Thanks for a great Channel

Love the content as usual James. Suggestion for a video: Air compressors for woodworkers. I'm shopping for an air compressor for various woodworking tasks (blower for cleaning out machines, brads, framing nails, HVLP spraying) and am utterly confused as to what anything means and what I should look to buy or what price point to look for; horsepower? CFM? PSI? tank size? belt drive? direct drive? All so confusing

i have a pair of isotunes 2.0 and they do work well but i have some issues with them. the hearing protection and sound quality of the speakers is fine, but they are maybe the most uncomfortable hearing protection i’ve ever worn. there is 0 padding on the headband, and the padded cups on the ear are not deep enough, causing the hard speakers to press directly against your ears. if you’re just gonna toss them on for 10 min at a time it’s not that big of a deal, but i tend to wear them for most of an 8 hour shift and i’ve yet to get adjusted to the discomfort. also the battery is removable but you can’t buy a replacement battery and charger which would be awesome. the battery life is pretty good but once it dies, you have to plug them in for an hour or so. it would make life easier if i could constantly have one spare battery that’s all charged up.

Speaking of cool tools: If I was designing a shop vacuum... First, I'd start with a base that was like a hand-truck with two larger wheels (6-8") on the back under the upright/handle part and a pair of smaller swivel wheels in front. That would make it easy to move around even over rough areas without having to pick the whole bloody thing up. Second, the rack for all the accessories would be on the upright part with the waist height handle, not in a bin attached to the waste collection tub where you have to empty out all the accessories before you can dump what you have sucked up. Third, the waste bin should *not* be fixed to the base. It should simply rest on the base with a couple of snap locks to hold it when the vacuum is in use but it could easily be released from the base just like the motor unit can be released from the waste bin. Fourth, the hose would attach with a simple quarter-turn twist rather than multiple threads like a bottle cap that has to be screwed on with multiple turns. Shop-Vac and other vacuum makers, let me know when you make one like that.
