Introducing solid food to your baby is a huge step that raises a lot of questions for parents. Unfortunately, there are a lot of myths and outdated beliefs that still exist that cause a lot of confusion and make the process more challenging than it needs to be.
In this video I break down some of the most common myths that exist around starting solids, to help you understand what you should and shouldn't do when introducing solids to your little one.
You'll get answers to questions like: Does spoon feeding cause obesity?, Should I avoid allergenic food for the first 12 months?, Can babies eat solid food before they have teeth? and lots more :)
Not only will you learn what's true and what's not, but I'll also explain the reasons behind each of them, so you understand the science behind it and how to best approach the feeding process.

On the topic of introducing solids, I'd be really greatful if you could do a video on choking/signs to look for/what to do if baby is actually choking. My mom was an ER doctor and she said the most horrific experience she ever had was telling parents their very young child had died choking on a peanut. I think its a fear that all parents have when starting solids- and they shouldn't confuse that with like the natural gag relfex etc

Hi @Asma Shariyaz it's important to give your little one food which is high in iron. There are lots of different sources of food which are iron rich, cerelac is just one source. It's a battle to get her to drink enough milk! She went from about 900-1000mls a day to maybe 600mls on a good day. She isn't showing signs of dehydration and she is growing along her curve. I added pureed solids and fine baby cereal to my breastfed babies diet at 6 months. She actually eats better if breast milk is given with her meals. She drinks the milk from a small cup. If I am home she might take to the breast again in an hour or two and she has done really well without tummy upset. I just listen to her demands to start and stop eating. Hope all goes well for you and baby❤️
@EmmaHubbard
@EmmaHubbard 2 года назад
Hi @Asma Shariyaz when you are first introducing solids usually the little one has breastmilk before the solids. Typically at 6 months of age bub's might go 3 - 4 hours between breastfeeds. So your little one might wake from a nap and have a breastmilk then play and then maybe 1 hour later have some solids. When your little one has solids really depends on when it is a good time of day for you and your little one. Have fun exploring solids with your little one!❤️

Hard to breastfeed for more than 3 months when you have to go back to work after 2,5...i should give birth in about 2 weeks and i struggle on knowing how i'll manage. Here in France they make us give solid from 4months old, and many of the baby-caretaker do it that way, because "this is the rule", no matter if the baby is ready or not...and they judge you or even signal that you're a bad parent if you don't.

You are the parent. I am currently in west Africa but I grew up in South Africa. I experienced the same things here a long with many others. I just blatantly refused to do anything that I was not comfortable with. Call me rude, disrespectful, arrogant. I don't care. My mom and I had many arguments over this. They felt like I don't get a say because I've never had a child before which is absolutely ridiculous. Put your foot down mama.. No means no. Your child, your rules. They had they're chance. It's time for change

If a 6 mos needs approx 28-32 oz of formula a day, when starting solids, how much of that is food? How much is water? Are solids and water additional to the 28-32 oz? 😅
@o0laieta0o
@o0laieta0o 2 года назад
Yes, they are additional! The formula is the most important part

You should not be giving water to a baby under one year. Our doctor recommended a tablespoon of food twice a day (breakfast and dinner). Solid foods are in addition to his/her normal breast milk/formula intake. This was advice given to us for a four month old. I would reach out to your pediatrician for their specific guidelines.

My 9mo daughter will try anything, she isn't picky. However she will not eat much of anything except breast milk. She will only eat about a tablespoon total of any solid food, then be super hungry for breast.

I want to do a Responsive Spoon Feeding, but my little one keep doing all the sign that he want to end the meal since the first time, now we doing BLW but still not much food get eaten 🙃 is it okay to just let him like this?

Babies don’t eat a lot of solids at first. It is really a slow progression of eating more and more solids over months.

Most of the food ends up on the floor or on clothes for the first few months -- don’t worry, it’s normal!

My LO gets mad if I don’t give her the spoon when I’m trying to feed her. Then gets mad when she cleans it all off but then won’t give it back to me to give her more food. She really wants to feed herself. I started giving her solids/purées at 4.5 months and she loves food. Shes 7 months now and really wants to feed herself but it just ends up being a huge mess, lol.
@EmmaHubbard
@EmmaHubbard 2 года назад
😂mealtimes are so messy! You might find it easier to have two spoons. One which your little one has and another spoon which you load with food and give to your little one when she wants more food. So basically you keep swapping the empty soon for the spoon loaded with food.

My baby will be 9 month old be we are concerned about her milestone she can sit but sometime she just fall and also she can’t crawl yet not even she can stand , whenever she get excited she starts to shake her head ! Is it normal ?
@EmmaHubbard
@EmmaHubbard Год назад
Hi Zinia! It's great that your little one is able to sit. At 9 months it is not unusual that a bub isn't yet crawling. Crawling is a skill bubs generally learn anywhere from 8 - 13 months. Also shaking her head when excited could be normal behaviour. As I can't see your little one in person, it's always best to check in with a doctor if you are concerned. Wishing you all the best!

I stop feeding my baby whe's not willingly opening her mouth and stops making "yumyum" sounds. If she begins to close her mouth and make bored sounds I stop. Normally when hungry she'd open her mouth real big and make sounds like a wild animal lol. I don't know if that's a good approach but her weight is fine so far.

And is it normal they give you the cues after 2/3 spoons (baby size) of food? Our baby does that a lot :/ he's about to be 8 months old.

Are you feeding milk before solids? Because if so he’s already full
@Taiphen
@Taiphen 2 года назад
@@dudubuduub3873 The other way around actually. He only drinks milk when he goes to sleep (that's after his meals). He only catnaps during the day (his nights are really long ) so I tend to wait a bit longer to feed him solids after he wakes up. He is growing well and keeps on being quite big for his age... maybe he's extra good at absorbing all the nutrients he gets?! 🤷‍♀ FTM usual confusion and fear I guess XD

Hi @Allura Reid if your little one is putting on weight and is happy when awake then I would just keep following his lead. Some bub's increase the amount they are eating when they start having finger food which he should be able to manage safe food fingers at this age. It might be worth giving it a try. Goodluck!
