As a Finnish person what I love the most about this country is that nobody is left behind. Yes, we have our heavy-drinkers, homeless people and so on, but still the goverment takes care, healthcare is universal and people help those in trouble. I think it's because the low amount of Finnish people - we think that everyone is important for the country :D
@Erik_K
@Erik_K 7 лет назад
Yeah, even if their situations still aren't ideal we feel a responsibility to at least try to help them. You couldn't imagine people in Finland ending up in the kind of conditions as some people for example in the US do, just falling out of the system for good and being forgotten.

American Finn here. I feel to be this way but thats not how it goes in u.s. eh? They'd/us/we rather debait how they got that way, how they " deserve" it. Blah blah blah. Always blah blah blah. i love the scene in " A man Without A Country" were the guy runs electricity to the others shipping container/ home. he say's " What do i owe you " the other says " nothing. If you ever see me face down in gutter, roll me over "

I've been thinking about our social security network quite a lot recently. It's obviously the best method for caring about the less fortunate and is essential to well being as a nation, but when you keep seeing people who abuse the system, like people who openly brag about never going to work because they can live by with the benefits, or drug users who harass others and are a general nuisance, who are still getting the same benefits that people that genuinely can't work or are sick etc., it really starts pissing you off. I'm 26 and I've lived basically my whole adult life on benefits due to mental health issues preventing me from being able to work, and my whole family has always been poor, and for the past 10-15 live off of benefits, and these people that abuse the system should really be punished for it. Their benefits taken away and forcing them into doing something, or having housing complexes just for people like them who refuse to ever contribute to society, or as with drug users, are just useless breathers who will never amount to anything. Social security is definitely the best and humane system, but it should really punish those that take advantage of it. Currently, there's many people arrogantly abusing it, and then bragging about it. Take off their benefits at once. Fucking gipsies are a great example. Most of them are criminals, have never done honest work in their lifes, and then dare to act arrogantly and despising us Finns who actually PAY their living. They're driving with their new cars every week, and yet still leeching off of the social security system. Nothing pisses me off more than gipsy leeches who hate finns.

We're very proud of our country and weirdly patriotic at times. The worst thing that could happen to us all collectively as a nation is if the rest of the world found out about our fuck ups and judged us for them before we could fix them. I guess we're kind of vain in a way. :D

Finland is a great place, but I hate it. I can never get over the shitty ass weather around here. Its like the one thing, I hate cold, and I hate rain. Finland has abundance of that. Even after all the good things about Finland, you know, probably being the best place to live in really, I still can't get over the damn awful weather around here. I would much rather live in a shithole like Spain or Turkey or something, just because they have nicer, sunnier and warmer weather more often... It's sad in a way really.

I lived in Finland for 5 months, and I totally fell in love with this country an its people. They might look cold and stone faced at first glance, but its kinda delusional, all Finns were very friendly, hospitable and friendly with me. When I see Finns at my home town of Tallinn, I greet them with "moika" :D

I really love Finland for two reasons: the nature and how good things are here. There's always things that could be better but in general everything is good. And as a girl I'm so happy to be Finnish since Finland is one of the best countries to be a girl and I agree. And education is good. Plus I also like the mentalitet and sisu. :D

@MrAatami
@MrAatami 7 лет назад
Yeah, there's like a spot near the local infamous bar that's basically "Leave a bike, take a bike." I have to admit I have stolen a bike(~12 years ago), but I looked up one that had clearly been stolen many times before. Broken lock, spray painted black etc.

I've had 3 bikes stolen from me (one from bike storage) in Turku where I'm from, but never happened in Helsinki since I moved there. Go Stadi! (Yeah yah, I do know it happens in Helsinki too. When you see a guy from Jakomäki selling 15 Jopos on Tori.fi you can kind of deduce where those came from...)

Tyler, I related to everything you said. And I've never been there. It's just the feeling i get from having met Finns abroad. Plus, I lived in Prague, and loved the tram. I totally relate to the sound of trams in Helsinki! And other people too. It's very rarely talked about but anyone who has lived in the areas where the tram goes knows what you are talking about. Also, I feel even more warmth from the sound of the OLD trams. It's a bit sad how the sounds of the trams changed when they upgraded them, though I am very glad how spacious and accessible the new trams are Nice video!

Also I never feel unsafe in Helsinki, no matter where ive gone or what time of night, ive never felt like i was going to be robbed or anything. One thing i dont enjoy though is everyone stares, just walking down the street people just stare you down and i always think i have something on may face

What I learned on vacation in Norway last year was: there is no bad or cold weather you're only wearing the wrong clothes. When I was watching the aurora borealis in Finnish Lapland earlier this year I didn't feel cold because I was dressed appropriately though it was about -15°C. Gear is everything.

I actually find it interesting that you feel like you can be more yourself here in Finland than in USA. I lived in USA for a year and I just felt like I could do whatever without people judging me. When I moved back home to Finland I felt like I had to put myself back into the "box". But maybe it is easier to be yourself when you are in a foreign country since no one has any expectations about you so you can just be yourself. And if someone thinks you are weird you can just play the "well I am foreign" -card lol. I have enjoyed your vlogs very much, keep up the good work! :)
