That sounds awesome! I can’t wait to go back to Catalina. Thank you so much watching and commenting, have fun! And oh, the nachos at Deacanso beach club are bomb. Bring a frisbee or ball to play in that little grassy area 🤙🏼
Hey Tash - thanks for checking it out - you can easily do Avalon in 2-3 days. If you plan on taking the shuttle from Avalon to two harbors where you spend the entire day) I would plan on 3-4. Have a frickin blast 💥. And if you like Oregon Adventures, posting some top 10’s on my channel - feel free to subscribe 🤙🏼
Reminds me when I was there in the 90’s with my friends. I just ran across some old snapshots from a disposable camera and seeing your video makes me want to go back again only this time instead of a day trip, we’ll stay the weekend. You gave a wealth of information, thanks.
Well thankyou very much! I really appreciate that - enjoy! And if you do snorkel or head north to that little beach I was talking about with the Descanso Beach club.... get the nachos :) Very very good, on the pricier side, but the value is there. Cheers!
Nope, it’s just a hangout area that has a cabana serving alcoholic bevvies, but no cover or ID check to go, there’s families and kids and stuff. Enjoy!
haha, did I call the ferries shuttles in this vid? this was like my first real youtube video I ever posted... guess I was nervous? haha, I would say generally no... people call them ferries.
Sounds like a great story - would love to hear that over a beer! I’m sure it was a different place back then! Thanks for dropping by - I’ll be posting more adventures soon, hope you follow along.
Great stuff! I’m going there in a couple months and I’m excited to check it out more! I went there last year luckily during the Catalina wine mixer weekend and it was pretty cool. Didn’t get to do too much last time though. But excited to see more of it very soon!
For some reason I want to move to Catalina, I've worked in a lot of tourist spots and I'm used to high prices and rents, but I'm wondering if there's any relatively affordable housing on the island. Did you by any chance talk to any locals about what they're doing for housing? Either way, great video man the place looks a lot like it did when I was younger👌
I spoke to a couple people and a lot of it sounds like houses that have been in the family for a while and it actually sounded like relatively good deals… family deals though. Idk… I’m curious too, I’m going to look it up now 😂
awww thankyou so much for the comment, I tried, this was one of my first RU-vid videos so I'm glad it turned out okay ;) And yes, SO MUCH remote areas to explore, but like I said, most areas require a pass.
Well hello Natasha - thanks for checking it out! Catalina was rad, wish I had more days there. My favorite beach town is Seaside, OR - my hometown :) just posted my top 10 of you want to check it out 🤙🏼
Hi I’m from the island and you wanted to know the origins of All the tiles. There used to be this giant tile company on the island but it shut down so now you can find little bits of tiles on the beach or in caves or in valleys. Also yes it is completely silent during winter time on the island there is no over town People over here
Hey there! I appreciate you stopping by and leaving this little nugget of info. That’s awesome, I’d love to find some old tiles diving or in the hills. You ever surf on the island?
Too much disappointment at Catalina...they have to get rid of the parking lot , bathroom on the beach ...and smell gas golf cart ...none development place...just good for drink alcohol
HOLY SHIZA, I didn't believe you but just checked their site.... unreal price increase, in fine writing on the site it says that it is due to fuel price increases, thanks for letting us all know! I am seeing round trip of $88/pp from most ports during the summer season. Wow.
I suppose it depends on the swell size, but I asked the captain because I was worried about that as well and he said to go out on the deck and keep your eyes on the horizon. I felt great the whole time. It’s a pretty big boat and you don’t feel many undulations. Good luck, it’s worth it!
You can buy one online and get it immediately on the Catalina conservancy website. It’s a little expensive but it’s for a good cause and actually allows you to get outside the island…. BUT you’ll have to have a 4x4 and proper vehicle to get around… I would look into yours or just get the Avalon to two harbors shuttle
Not a problem! Have so much fun, and really consider getting over to two harbors via boat from Avalon. And if you go to descending beach club…. The nachos are the best deal in my opinion. 👍🏼
This was such a great video! I actually decided against going because of all the info! I was thinking of doing a day trip for the wildlife with my kid and had no idea how incredibly touristy and consumer-driven it is. Thank you SO much!
Glad it was helpful! But I want to be very clear, it's certainly worth doing, there are some very unique things to be seen and experiences to be had, maybe just go during the shoulder season! Or just plan on the tourism and enjoy it right now in the height of summer, regardless - have fun!
Yup - and now it’s $84 RT for the ferry. It is absolutely worth experiencing at least once, but it’s more expensive than I’d like. I’ve heard 3 day LA/Mexico cruises stop in Catalina for and that might be a good way to do it, since those cruises are like under $200
Great video! How do i get a pass to Descanso beach? Also, How much is a golf cart rental? I'm going on weds next week....guessing it should not be busy bcuz its a weekday?
I’ll be honest. You don’t need a golf cart rental… unless you have a hard time walking everything is close. Regardless golf cart rentals are like $55/hr. Have fun, and yes it will be much more enjoyable in a weekday, let me know how it goes. Descanso you just walk in, it’s free 58 enjoy yourself there! But you should order some food ;)
Hey Max, thanks a lot - I’m trying to get better and making travel videos, this certainly has been a great one for my channel!! I appreciate you stopping by.
@@JacksonMeyer There was a time in history that Avalon had a tile factory. It was only active for about 4-5 years, but many tiles were used locally. Some that you see are still genuine, while others are not "original." Fountains, the wall on front street... most of those are still original.
Absolutely, everything in Avalon is walking distance, Deacanso is great - get the nachos! Have fun, i did hear that the ferry prices went up by a lot 😢
My family on my mother's side used to own this island and traded it to the Wrigley's way back when for land in Goleta. If I had my way, I would let the original inhabitants have it back...
That’s so wild! I just learned about the history of the island and how it was bought by Wrigley and all the implications of that… that would be a logistical nightmare to give the property back - but I am all for that - would be such a baller move by the Wrigleys! Thanks for dropping by!
@@ronjohnson5248 It is Un American to own an Island. So they are an independent nation ? Okay, I will make war with them, I win, I take. I am my own Island unto myself, til a stronger comes along.
Yeah so I was tripping out like you said this time to go towards the end of video you said like right now it's best time to go like right now what month is right now LOL
I didn’t see anybody that did, the boat is pretty big that it really minimizes most of the effects of the waves. The captain told me to head outside and look at the horizon (I had the same concern) and I managed perfectly
