Ladies and gents. Catalina island is part of LA County. Meaning you don’t need anything to travel there. Just like you don’t need permission to go from West Hollywood to culver city. You just buy your ferry ticket, which 37.00 one way or 75.00 round trip. Your immigration status does not matter, again. It’s LA county, the sheriffs are the police there and LA county fire is the Fire dept there. Avalon is incorporated like weho, culver city, Santa Monica, Glendale, Etc. So in conclusion, go to Catalina and enjoy it. The people there are very sweet and welcoming. do the inland - island adventure if you’re not hiking in the conservancy. I hope this answers your questions, since I’ve been asked a lot. Cheers

Paulette Flores jaimes when you go. You’ll see that most of the people living there are immigrants. 66% of the habitants there are Mexicans, they have this whole history on how the island was originally Mexican territory( I have not looked into this so I can’t confirm) but lots of Latinos there. They’re friendly and welcoming , 90% of the jobs are service jobs. So very humble down to earth fellows there.

As a person who used to work on the ferry you took to the island, Catalina Express, one additional tip is be at the dock 30 minutes before your boat is suppose to depart. You arrive late and its the busy season, your ticket could go to a standby passenger.

If you’re gonna snorkel at lovers cove it’ll be easier renting from Wet Spot Rentals n that’s right where the ferries dock. If you r gonna snorkel behind the Casino u can rent from anywhere on The pier or Descanso Beach. I ended up buying my gear after renting a lot so the snorkel things in the video is my own. But I have rented from most of the places on Catalina.

It’s cold and most of the stores close early. The ferry stops taking trips in the winter time.
