Monkeys are wild animals, yes they can be trained, but they can and will snap, and cause some major damage to property, and most of all horrible damage to People !! Look up the cases where pet monkeys, or apes turned on their owners!! Some caused great physical harm to these people that thought that they would be good pets!! Great Video and straight to the point. There are so many people who lack that common sense, they wouldn't understand this video even if you spelled it out for them.

They didn't mention a couple more drawbacks when having a monkey. Apartments won't allow them and insurance companies don't like to insure houses of monkey owners.

Best solution is having the monkey free in its enviroment and own a cat or a dog.

GET A DOG.Or a cat, or a bird, or a pig, or a turtle, or a goat, or a horse, or a fish... many choices.

many people who are experts in this field advice that its better not to have a monkey as a pet. but i see many people have monkeys and they are happy petting them.

Here in Cincinnati, last year several of these monkeys were set free. Meaning someone couldn’t provide proper care. The monkeys were left in danger, with proper lines, no food and scared 😱. So sad .

The ONE thing not mentioned here was the PSYCHOLOGY of monkeys, which is REALLY messed up! Training of monkeys RARELY works as monkeys have no desire to please their owners like dogs. Monkeys only understand and respond to heirarchy and strength. The communicate through biting, scratching and hitting. To reach your pet, you must communicate on it's level, not try to make it rise to a human's level of communication! To do so leads to confusion, frustration and psychosis. Self harm is common among monkeys kept as pets due the the psychosis and frustration of not knowing where they fit in to the dynamic of the home in which they reside. When sexual maturity sets in, even more aggression occurs. Monkeys are HIGHLY sexual and without an outlet for this, attacks are much more likely. Neutering does calm this down to some point, but will not alleviate it all together. Destruction of property is absolute. Both out of curiosity and to try to dominate. Do yourself a favor. DO NOT GET A MONKEY. You WILL be disappointed and your home and property will be destroyed.

The point that stood out the most and the point most monkey pet owners do not get or think they can compensate for is, monkeys need to be with their own kind. And, no matter how well you think or believe that you can take better care of the monkey than the mother or the troupe is absolutely false. The unfortunate thing that has made so many people believe that the mother is vicious to their babies and will let them starve, injure them or even kill them is the amount of videos coming from Cambodia. Most of the VO's that are filming stir up issues with the monkeys to get more views to be able to get more money from their videos going viral. They have made it their jobs. They interfere all the time. Yes, it looks brutal at times when a mom is starting the weaning process but they are wild animals and they do not need our help. When mom is weaning and these VO's try to give food or milk to the babies they are interfering with a natural process. Sorry for rambling but the fact is, monkeys are better left in the wild, with their moms and troupe.

If in the US there are several legal breeders who keep medical checks on their animals as per law. The human, if they have done their home work are able to keep a monkey as a pet and the things you have mentioned, if one has done their homework up front, do not become issues. Monkeys have been pets far longer than dogs and or cats. 👍

don't know how to take care if a monkey WELL THEN DON'T, it's that simple, also you won't have it for very long sadly or happily either if you like it or hate if you do hate it THEN WHY DO YOU KEEP it?!!

If you want a monkey as a pet, go ahead and have it for 9 mos., or a year at most! After that, they have reached sexual maturity and get really nasty, so are only good for target practice, at best! So, in reality, they'll only be around for a relatively short time so if you want one, and need a really fast moving target...get one!!

So.... Why "Don't pet them..."? You never answer that question or provide information abt it. We see it in videos featuring human hands mauling these creatures over & over. Monkeys don't pet each other like we do to them. When you see tentative examples of them doing it on 1 channel or another, it's usually a behavior they learned from their handlers. Some humanize themselves that way easily. Most don't. Most socialize like monkeys. They're hard wired to do so by instinct. That's the main reason taking control of a newborn can be so traumatic to the baby. The baby's instincts compel them to find their way to the shelter of their OWN Kind thru touch & smell & feel of their own kind. Then WE come along & jam our fingers, noses & faces & esp'ly our voices in the way & cut off all elementary references to what they know to be "primate". When you watch one of them, as a very new baby, repeatedly reject human attention - no matter how loving that attention may be - in that polite way they can, the way that shows them pushing the attention aside in an obvious way they have of showing you: " I thank you for being so nice, but I am looking for monkey/family/my own kind here. You are not 'monkey'...", you'll understand.

A lot of primates in the wild evolved into actually have similar diets to ours now because of locals and tourists in those countries feeding them McDonald’s and stuff. Americans feel, “never get a monkey as a pet,” but other countries and cultures view monkeys much differently. Often baby monkeys are far more in danger of their own mother during weaning periods or troop kidnappers, than someone who wanted one as a pet.

A lot of BS here. IF YOURE GOING TO GET A MONKEY, you need to realize they are a commitment. They need time, work, and DISCIPLINE. People forget that and think they can’t discipline without it being abuse. Same way you train other animals. It will take time but you need to train them and discipline them and show them you’re in charge. They are not for everyone and only for people who have A LOT OF TIME. Since when is 30%=most?? "Most" pet monkeys do NOT get diabetes. Though they certainly can if not fed a proper diet it is not difficult at all to feed them properly and avoid bunches of junk food!!
