As far as how they smell regardless of being bathed that is 100% dependent on what species of monkeys they owned! It is not the case for all monkeys regardless they still do not make good pets!!

You should always be wary, have you seen the canines on the adult monkeys and like all other animals they could become very agressive if they think they are protecting their baby. Most of the Macaques we see on Social Media are fairly placid however they are often ex pets or have grown up in an area where they are used to humans and tourists.

@@paulacoombswhen I first arrived in India I was a typical Westerner. I saw the little baby macaque and started to go into baby talk mode. I didn’t see the big male approaching my table at the cafe. Luckily my guide and the cafe owner _had_ seen it and both had grabbed sticks. It jumped on the table with such force it cause my tea to spill in my lap and jump up bringing me face to face briefly before they chased it off. Stinky ugly brute. Then I met a local woman with this pretty child, but for the half missing nose. The woman was a monkey feeder, they saw the child as competition and didn’t like her having any of ‘their’ fruit. Nearly dragged off the balcony and certain death, she was rescued but permanently disfigured. I knew many who depended on their little gardens and nothing was sacred from these macaques. Once they stole some Italian bloke’s passport and were ripping pages out of it at the top of a tree, letting bits rain down on the very upset man underneath. And they mugged me for my groceries on several occasions. Life is better in places where they’re not.

Well done for researching and putting a monkey first over your own desire, that tells a lot about the person you are, your comment made my day a happy one! Yes they have a lot of needs for their health and wellbeing, the UK has just altered their rules on having a pet monkey and to cover the new requirements means that now most people could not pass the inspection and get the licence required. Humanising any monkey is cruel in so many ways that most don't understand. They do not make good pets however you might be able to adopt or sponser a monkey at rescue and rehabilitation centre. My group sponsers three Macaques at our local Monkeyworld rescue and rehabilitation and I live nearby so can go and visit them often and help with giving food and other items that the organisation needs. MonkeyworldUK has information on its website that you could look at to get an idea if that would be something you want to do and maybe find a closer one to your area. Alternatively the organisations are often in need of volunteers so viewers could also experience monkeys in that way.

To people they arent used to so if ur a good owner and interact with them then they wont be mean to you or not much

Not to mention it's only temporary . How many people have a fully grown monkey as a pet? At some point the monkey will be given up because they are either dangerous or just to much to handle or both. Then the monkey will endure a lifetime of psycologial and emotional issues and the horrible side effects that come with it. Ask any former monkey owner whether or not having one is a good idea.

Macaques, velvets, and baboons are classified as vermin in most countries they are native to where religious significance is not assigned to them. Meaning open season on hunting with no bag limit since they breed like rats and destroy everything in their path. They're like little furry Mad Max marauders.

In East Texas we have wild feral hogs. They are cute sweet and adorable. That's why we kill them every chance we get!

In the Midwest, we've got a bad squirrel and white tail deer issue. I have trapped the squirrels and I have a person who disposed them. Deer, I love deer but they are a huge problem. From destroying crops and gardens and cause major accidents on the roads.

I wish more zoos allowed interaction with the monkeys. Here in Utah, if the monkeys are not hidden away from public view, they are only viewable from 100 yards away where you can barely see thier faces. 0 chances of them even noticing you from that far. So the people who dream of holding a monkey, or even giving it snacks will never get a chance otherwise, so they get a monkey. Here in Utah it's illegal to own any primate, which is a good idea, but more frustrating when there is no other option. I suppose you could fly somewhere where you can do that, but I don't know if such a place exists except for traveling to an Asian country and seeing them in the wild.

It's a 10 acre preserve south of Miami where monkeys can live in a natural habitat. It was founded in the 1930s to enable the study of monkeys. So, why was the preserve founded? It was for the study of monkeys. Back in the 1930s, traveling to monkey habitats was difficult, time consuming, and expensive; this was before jet travel, which meant weeks to get to where monkeys lived. So, the founder got 10 acres or so south of Miami, and he brought the monkeys there. To fund his primate studies, he set it up for people to come in and watch the monkeys; i.e. you pay to get in. The tag line of the Monkey Jungle is that the people are caged and the monkeys run wild! They have walkways covered with chicken wire. The monkeys run around and above you. They have openings in the walkway where dishes hang down. When the monkeys want food, they'll grab the chain to shake the dish, thus letting you know that they're hungry. At concession stands, you can get food, such as fruits, to feed them. It's a cool place. If you're ever in Miami, I highly recommend visiting the Monkey Jungle!

Of course you have to pay. Nothing, is free these day's.

The guy who founded it in the 1930s wanted to study monkeys, but traveling to their natural habitats would take weeks or months back in those days. So, what he did was buy some land south of Miami, and brought the monkeys here. To defray his costs, he charged admission to see the monkeys. The areas where we humans can walk are fenced off with chicken wire. There are openings in the chicken wire with little bowls hanging down, so you can feed the monkeys. They'll come above you, and they'll tug on the bowls to let you know they want food. It's cute! You can see the monkeys up close, and you can interact with them. Their tag line is where the people are caged, and the monkeys run wild! If you're ever in the Miami, FL area, you have to visit the Monkey Jungle!

And as I just said in another comment: domestication is done _to an entire species._ You can't "domesticate" an individual animal.

Total bullshit, i have raised and breed hundreds of various macaques mainly for pharmaceutical labs but also have kept the exceptional ones i find interesting as pets. They make great pets if discplined and treated like a monkey but they get a bad rap because mentally ill delusional retarded karens get theae animals and try to treat them like a human infant for years. Anything placed in that situation would go nuts. Dressing them in stupid clothes and expecting them to be forever babys or something. They are great pets if you have a triple digit iq and not mentally ill.

I can raise someone or something like a child and just give it away to a place to be locked up, I did two years locked up somewhere before and some people didn't think the place was that bad but psychologically being away from the family it was horrible it was horrible two years II was like a year. And another point in my life to I'd also feel like I've been abandoned by my family combination to must have been terrible. Everybody talks about them being well animals but they're more than that and you know that they're more than that and there some part human you know love and betrayal so good luck with all that

But just think...sanctuaries, zoos, wild life preserves just can't take in that many monkeys...they just don't have the room...some people just let them go and then they become other people's and animal problems ...plus they can adapt to anything and then it's a mess as they destroy everything they see...breaking into homes, businesses etc etc...they should all be illegal to own in any capacity...period

Yes, even though troop life is brutal, nature is brutal. Animals are eaten alive by predators. Let them live their natural life. Around 11% of infants die before reaching adulthood. Many are injured or die in feeding frenzy’s when well meaning humans hand out food. I imagine with the advent of roads and power lines more are killed or die after their mothers are killed.

I have mixed feelings about the whole situation. If you look up Capuchin misses grandma on You Tube you will see the incredible love the monkey has for her. There are other instances of the bonds between humans and primates. You can also see the brutality of troop life in the wild, because unless they are higher ranked it’s a hard knock life for them. I don’t know the answer, but generally speaking I think it’s better for them to be with their own kind.

@Eva Winemiller - yes, there are many locations in the US where you can lawfully have a pet monkey. You need to check with your particular area as to if there are any regulations surrounding the ownership of a monkey, as you would for any other type of pet, and what other requirements there may be as you would any other place in the world. In the US there are numerous lawful breeders who take great care to see their animals are healthy. Pay close attention to their operation as not all breeders are alike. Check them out with I believe it is referred to as the BBB, and word of mouth as well as with the state they are set up to operate in. And do not give any money until you have done all of that as well as have a contract your attorney has checked out. Monkeys are not inexpensive - averaging 3,000-10,000 $ US in addition to the expense of raising them. As with any animal, including a dog, you need to research the specifics for their diet as each animal will have specifics for their diet. Too many believe a dog can maintain health eating garbage food from the grocer's shelf. Each different breed of animal has specifics for them, as do monkeys. Learn all you are able to. Locate a vet that has experience with monkeys as you would a human doctor if looking for a doc to treat skin and or gut/digestion/hepatitis, etc issues looking for a gastroenterologist, etc. Monkeys live a good long time - pick up good training tips/books so you can have a good many rewarding years with your monkey. 👍 And as an fyi, stay away from the animal rights terrorists as they speak from feelings voicing them as if they were fact. Facts do not care about your, mine, or their feelings. May you locate your monkey pet and "live long and prosper" (could not resist). 👍

A monkey is a wild animal and will always be a wild animal. Just because you take it at birth doesn’t mean it’s automatically domesticated enough to be a pet
