If you're going to move to NB you will save 30% or more purchasing a home 15-30 minutes outside of a big city but it comes with bigger lots for more privacy, less crime, lower taxes and small town vibes. The highways are great and traffic is always flowing easily.

It's cold and pricey for what it is. I thought of getting a condo in Moncton, but for a couple like us not needing a mortgage, it is not worth it, as the fees, property taxes, and utilities was just insanely too high especially for someone on pensions. Plus the access to primary healthcare was too intolerable for us so we moved back to BC. For us Moncton is like a mundane big suburb, but has beautiful beaches not far away to the east of it. Plus it has two hundred times less pollutants pumped into the air than that of what Saint John does.

Keep in mind that local jobs pay less as well - so if you're not working remotely and have to get something local be sure to measure that against costs.

Just on the Simple fact of High Property Taxes in New Brunswick…..People are going to stop coming here…!! Taxes are high at 15% on everything….plus highest property taxes…..yet the province has a surplus. They definitely don’t spend it on the roads. We moved here three years ago….taxes were 3600 a year…..now 36 months Later 5300. Combine this with lousy weather and crappy health care….wait times for anything are ridiculous. We are not going to stay here and continue to get jammed with high property taxes at a rate of 10% every year. Mine has jumped 46% in 36month. Property tax should be based on the services provided not on some dreamed up house value price. Such a complete scam…!! People are sick of it..!! People should not have 700 a month property tax bill a month…..it’s becoming a mortgage payment. Talk about kill a province !! More people coming me and more tax revenue..!! Canadians truly are Taxed to death….especially in this Province. Fat chance attracting professionals like Doctors and nurses to come East….politicians are so stupid…!! Don’t move here…..find somewhere else…!!
@deniseandmarc_realtors
@deniseandmarc_realtors 5 месяцев назад
I agree with what you say about high taxes and health care. We talk about both of those things in another video. But if you're paying $5300 in taxes, living in a $400,000 or so house, that same house is probably $800k in Ontario or $1.1M in BC. Sure you'll pay half the property taxes or maybe even less, but you're paying 100s of thousands more for the house. That's a big part of what attracts people here.
@davemacsmusic8817
@davemacsmusic8817 5 месяцев назад
Funny how this tax system is so flawed…!! Some homes are twice the size of other homes on more land and pay 1500 dollars less tax than a smaller home on a smaller lot. Just go around on SNB taxes and go around….you will see many examples of property assessments that make no sense. You pay an assessment rip off charge….Funny Nobody Came around my house..?again anything to steal money from people. This Country penalizes success ….!! My house in Ontario was assessed at a much higher price and I didn’t pay anything close to 5300..!! Like I said before….professionals are not going to move out east when the word is out how you’re taxed so high. If you want to attract people this isn’t the way to do it…!! Blaming it on people moving here is insane. More people means more tax revenue. Also the price inflation on homes is also due to the Realtors out here telling clients to sell for much higher prices counting on people moving out here from other provinces. Let’s face it…the higher the price the higher the commission..!! It’s feeling like people are looking to other parts of Canada like Alberta. They actually have incentives for people to move there like LOW TAXES ..!! The Out East Tax Playbook is Not the way…!! So stupid…!!

Unless I missed it, but you didn't mention that Moncton is a bilingual city and you should know that moving from out of province. If you are looking at the job market, it's not going to be easy - though not impossible - to find a good paying job if you are not bilingual. Of course, it's going to depend a lot on where in the city you live and what types of jobs you're looking for, but I think you really need some French in order to live well in Moncton. I'd be interested if readers agree or disagree?

You didn't miss it! 🙂 We had talked about it in a video posted a few weeks before this one, about the pros and cons of living in Moncton (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bbp0VZmo3sY.htmlsi=xfvyoP5xul8tHLQh ) but looking back, it would've been worth mentioning again, because it is an important aspect and can be a challenge. It looks like we have similar views on the subject. We say something very similar to your comment in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bbp0VZmo3sY.html Thanks for watching!

I was born in Moncton. I was educated here right up to my undergraduate degree. I have worked here all my life. I am as bilingual as can be indeed among the most proficient in Canada. It’s a myth that you need to be bilingual in most work environments in this city. It’s just not true. Of course you need two languages if you intend to be a powerful sales rep. or a healthcare worker in the French language Dumont University Hospital Centre (although any and all patients are easily cared for in English at Dumont) . The Moncton Hospital operates mainly in English. A lot of folks will complain about language when their real problem is attitude and qualifications. A lot of scapegoating but other than that Monctonians are super friendly, super accommodating and language is rarely a barrier to health, happiness and succe$$. By and large, the English language is spoken EVERYWHERE and the French remain the pillars of accommodation and acquiescence. Not to worry. Et bien ….voilà! 😉👍🇨🇦

Hi, thanks for all the info. My son is moving in April and struggling to find an apartment. Can you please recommend the best way to find a rental apartment? Also you mentioned property provincial tax. Can you please inform us of the percentage that gets deducted from your property tax. Thanks 🤩

Thanks for watching! Happy to hear it's helpful. Unfortunately finding rentals can be a little scattered. There is no good central website that lists them all. Most landlords will use Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace, but some landlords use property managers who may have their own websites. MU Property Management, Killam Properties, Ground Floor Property Management, and Green Light Property Management are some you could try. Property taxes only apply to owners of properties, so for your son, as a renter, property tax will not apply. (Hopefully I understood your question correctly). Hope that helps!
@user-nw5xs4kb5r
@user-nw5xs4kb5r 5 месяцев назад
Thanks Denise and Marc. We are very much coming to the realisation that rental is a bit of a circus. I am planning to follow at some point and hope to purchase a property, hence why I was asking about the annual property tax. 😊
@deniseandmarc_realtors
@deniseandmarc_realtors 5 месяцев назад
Ah...understood! As your primary residence, the tax rate in Moncton will be a little over 1.44% (at this time) of the assessed value. If you buy a property and do not live in it, you also need to pay the provincial portion so it will be a little over 2% total. Assessed values are different than market values. In the last few years, the market value on most homes was much higher than it's assessed value. Houses assessed for around $300,000 could easily sell for $400,000 or more, however in the last few years, the assessments have been catching up and they are now much closer to each other. So if you are looking at a $400,000 home, there's a good chance its assessed value will be approximately $400,000 as well, so you would pay approximately $5,777 per year in taxes, generally payable monthly with your mortgage payment if you have one.

I'll be moving to Moncton in about a month (currently living in Peterborough, ON). as an international student, are there any community French language classes (preferably free/cheap) I can enroll myself into? I was hoping to utilize my time living in a bilingual city to get a decent-ish grasp of French.

Great question. I'm not aware of any free classes, but if you contact one of these, they should be able to help you: Alliance Francaise ( www.afmoncton.ca ), or MAGMA ( tools.magma-amgm.org/MAGMA/ ). Alliance Francaise have paid courses, however those types of organizations can often help you find a government program that will cover all or some of the fees.

UBER and Taxi service in Moncton?

We do not have UBER in Moncton. I believe it has to do with insurance regulations. I did see that Uride was looking for drivers in the Moncton area, so they're setting up shop here, but I've yet to see their cars. We have lots of taxis.
