@Jeffrey Epstein didntkillhimself I mean gun ownership walks the not very fine line between self defence and homicide. It's important to train. You shouldn't go out an buy a gun, leaving it in your house until you need it, you should practice in some way
Totally agree. Unfortunately I think owning a gun usually makes people more confident in their ability to use a gun than they actually are. People’s perception is that you point and click, like a mouse. Like me owning a guitar, I play like shit. Practice makes perfect for both.

The most dangerous gun is an “unloaded” gun. We have all experienced ourselves or seen someone be surprised a gun was loaded when they were sure it was unloaded. Act accordingly.

I regret to inform you that I *WAS* one of "those" people who said the only people who need a gun are law enforcement and the military. My politics have evolved in the last few years, and times are changing. A couple of weeks ago I went to buy my first gun and told them I'm a 65-year-old gun virgin and I felt like I was out looking to buy my first car but I didn't have a drivers license and had never been behind the wheel. They encouraged me to take a gun safety course, the same course that is required for a carry permit in VA, so I'm taking the course in 2 days and then I'll buy a gun. In the meantime, I'm watching as many useful videos as I can find, including this one. I'm already looking forward to lots of range time for practice.
Walther PPQ has the best trigger out of the box, very reliable and highly accurate. Also, has one of the best grips. EDIT: Walther has improved their lineup with the new PDP series. Unfortunately, they're not planning on a PDP 45 so get the PPQ 45.
Since my original post, I bought a Glock 19. The instructor of the gun safety class I took carries a Glock 19 and that's also what we used in class, so it was the first gun I ever fired. Two days after the class, I went back and rented several guns and fired them, but I came back to the G19. The employee at the rental counter and the salesman I talked with both carry that gun. I'm planning to take another class for guidance and practice, and I submitted the Concealed Carry application to my city courthouse. I won't carry until I'm more proficient and comfortable. I have A LOT to learn, but I'm glad to be on this path. #backtheblue
Welcome! Go to a range that rents guns and try a few out. It’s like going to Enterprise before buying your first car. Everybody and their brother is a salesman for their favorite brand&model but ultimately it’s what fits you and what you enjoy shooting
Four weapon safety rules: 1) Treat every weapon as if it were loaded. (Do not assume that your firearm is unloaded, and do a chamber check when receiving or passing off a weapon) 2) Never point your weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot. (Be aware of the direction of your barrel at all times, this will keep everyone around you safe) 3) Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire. (If you rest your finger on the trigger, there's a much higher chance that you'll negligently discharge your weapon) 4) Keep your weapon on safe until you intend to fire. (When applicable, not all weapons have a safety mechanism) Sometimes, a fifth safety rule is also referenced: 5) Know your target and what lies beyond and in-between. (Don't get tunnel vision. If you are shooting a target, is there anything behind it? Pay attention to your surroundings) The first four are generally the most accepted weapon safety rules, the fifth one is also thrown in sometimes. Generally, if an accident occurs, it's because someone broke at least two of the safety rules, if not more.
@ajalvarez3111 Do better? Lmao, that's exactly how it's taught in the Marine Corps, and how I taught it to thousands if not tens of thousands of other Marines and sailors as a PMI, 0311 infantry rifleman, and combat veteran. I know more than you.

I'll never forget when I was teaching my nephew gun safety. And when I went to load a round in my ar the bolt dropped and the gun went off. Come to find out trigger was faulty. Everyone was safe because I followed the basic safety rules. We both learned a important lesson that day.
Ya that can happen with a AR, keep it pointed in a safe direction, also, the older ones didn't have the strong enough spring on the pin so when it slapped forward it "could go off" on releasing the bolt forward the firing pin could strike the center, happened to me while shooting down range and got a double shot with just one trigger pull! but in my case it was because the ammo didn't have enough gas to reset the sear on the trigger so it followed it back and hit the pinn again.
@@eniklisnihm4565 ya the sear was out of spec on my rifle and the spring could have also been a issue . I replaced with good nickel boron from psa never had another issue .

Lazarbum, allow me to clarify for you and anyone else who might have possibly not understood the sentiment of my above comment. The purpose of my comment (from beginning to end) was to give props to Colion Noir. I am new to his content, and did not know he was a lawyer, so when he mentioned it in this video, I was pleasantly surprised. This has absolutely nothing to to with him being a gun owner. Now, I’m going to digress since further dialogue would be a waste of my time.

Depression was literally spooked off and i felt the need to take hold of my life and become more responsible. now im in the proccess of owning my own firearm!
Rule #8 Be very careful bringing your girlfriend to the range. Backstory: I brought my ex to the range. She told me she had experience shooting before but it had been a while. I went over the rules of gun safety with her. After she fired a shot, she turned around, pointed the gun at me with her finger still on the trigger, and started jumping up and down saying “I hit it!!” Needless to say, I nearly shit myself.
What you define as experience isn't necessarily the same as anyone else's definition. I found that out the hard way too with one of my friends that was "in the army". The saddest part of it all, he really was in the army.

Give gun newbies just 1 round to start with for the first 10 or so shots. Keeps situations like this from being deadly and you can work on cementing the rules, including how to properly clear the firearm and lay it back down before loading another round in a mag.

Empty guns kill and injure idiots, the 10 commandments of gun safety were drilled into my head so long ago I can't remember how young I was when I learned them
Learned gun safety when I was in the military. Every year we got a refresher course. First gun I bought was a 22LR plinker. Learned it inside and out and taught my grandson gun safety and how to shoot. Then bought a 12 gauge pump. Read the accompanying "bible". Stocked up on "food" for my firearms. Then bought a 1911A1 in 22LR. What you say? Why a 1911A1 in 22LR? It was to learn the ins and outs of the 1911A1 before I bought a 1911A1 in 45 ACP. Taught my grandson how to shoot the 22LR 1911A1 and the ins and outs. He's good. After I got my 1911A1 in 45 ACP, he already understood the safety and operations of the 1911A1. He was surprised at how loud it was even with ear plugs. Got my CCL, holster, and insurance (USCCA). Things haven't gotten bad out here in the boonies but 75 minutes away it's getting dicey. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
Guns put a smile on your face. That is a fact. I'm so glad I pursued my life long dream of getting a rifle in Finland. Nothing better than extreme long range 22lr shooting, long range hmr hunting and just hunting in general, from magpies or grouse all the way up to moose. Especially with the 22lr side, I finally found my purpose and something I am good at. Nothing cooler than hitting a 1.5inch plate at 300 meters a few times in a row. The best part about Finnish gun laws, suppressors are readily available for a very affordable price.
@@dontrend5956 .22LR has been used to kill just about every living thing that moves on this planet as one point or another. There was even a story some years ago about an elephant in Thailand that was killed with rifles chambered in .22LR. Granted, that was an act of illegal and inhumane poaching, and not proper hunting, but it still proves that it is feasible to take even moose with .22LR. I personally wouldn't try doing that, especially not against an angry bull moose, though.
Great info. I'm a new civilian gun owner, these laws are a bit crazy. I'm doing my best to educate my wife she's a new gun owner. We've already been to range two days after our purchase.
I turn 50 in three weeks. I have shot real guns since I was 10. My best advice: Always follow the rules of gun safety, get trained, practice often. There is literally nothing like the feeling of knowing you have the ability to defend yourself and your family. And yes, these gun laws make it massively more difficult for us to exercise as basic human right. Anyway, welcome to the club! Don't be afraid to ask others for advice, pretty much every shooter will gladly help you out.
Welcome to the club. My advice to you is, after all this slows down a bit, and things return to normal, don’t get complacent. Get your wife and yourself to the range as often as you can. Stock up on some ammo for next time, because there will be a next time. Take it seriously, but have fun with it at the same time at the range. Be safe, follow the safety rules and good luck.
Welcome. And remember, you are a citizen more than a "civilian". This country was fought for and won by mostly civilian citizens. Citizens have rights.
When I first started carrying it took me a solid year to figure out what clothes to wear, what holster works best for me, how I should carry said gun (of which I have 4). Its a lifestyle change.
I’m 16 and finally have an excuse to convince my mom to get one. Edit: as tiger king taught us, there is no such think as an unloaded gun. Mag out, slide back, visual check, check again.(after that assume it’s loaded)
The main one, IMHO, is keep your finger off the trigger until sights are on target and you're ready to shoot. Adhere to that rule, and you'll be more likely to win the mega lotto than to have a ND, as your gun going off without your finger touching the trigger is exceptionally rare. Ultimately the best safety is the one between your ears. Master that one, and everything else fall into place.
And wait until you're old enough to legally buy your own. Lots of people have gotten into trouble buying a gun for someone else who couldn't legally buy one even though they had no intention of criminal activity.
My husband has been shooting since he was a young kid. Then joined the army. He taught me very well how to handle a gun. But before we shot a real gun he taught me with a water gun. Trigger discipline, no flagging, keeping barrel down range. And everything. Then I upgraded to a airsoft gun. Same lessons.. I then upgraded to his 9mm pistol and then his AR-15.. now I can shoot his kar98k Mauser.. just in a short period with my husband he is surprised and says it's like I am a pro. :). I wanted to learn. And he taught me very well. I am now confident with a firearm and the number one thing he stressed more than anything was safety!
I have a similar history as your husband. My son's are 3 and 6. Looking to start teaching them, but I never thought of the water gun training! Great idea.
@@Toimu13 even toy guns can teach the kids trigger discipline. Where to aim and not aim. Show them how to handle a toy gun with respect and then judge how they do from there. It takes time.
As children we all love to imagine and play. I remember playing with toy guns, water guns, lazer tag, and evently airsoft and pellet guns as if they were real. Finger off the trigger, never point at anyone or at yourself, always checking if they were chambered and always keep them clean. Safety is #1 🇺🇸

As a Brit now living in the USA (MI), my wife and I recently purchased our first firearm for home defense. I honestly was the "I don't ever see myself carrying" person, firearms are a different world entirely from what I was used to. Yet already, I'm reviewing CPL requirements and looking towards it. Mainly due to your videos, the knowledge and how you present it is clear cut and to the point and everything I was in need of. Next on the agenda, snapcaps.
Nice name, im nowhere near the US but my country also has 2 different licences one to own and one to carry. Never realised how stupid that is until I realised I cant legally take my rifle to a range because carrying it can also mean carrying it in a car. Whish I had this video back then. And yes, rifle, break action single shot, still treated with the same laws as pistols or ak's.
So important! I am starting to see how uninformed I was and it has taken away so much fear. I think that’s a common thing in the country: people don’t have knowledge of firearms and or see themselves as a potential victim vs seeing firearms as a way to protect yourself. When that perspective switched for me, I now see how these gun control law/emotional stories work so well when people are in fear/uneducated. We need more education, so props to you for looking to learn!
As someone from the UK hearing about how the grip on gun laws is strengthening in some states, I urge you all to fight for your rights. You only have to look at the hot and cold burglary statistics in the UK vs the US to see that even the idea of a house having a firearm is enough to put criminals off. When the people lose their freedom, the criminals take advantage, which can cost innocent lives due to not having a way to defend yourself. No matter what, criminals will always have guns, they have them here after all. So defend your rights!
Civilians are considered acceptable casualties when governments are successful implementing and fixed on keeping it that way to the point of insanity. It's sad and ridiculous
777Dubliner couldn’t agree more! There are some things we do get right (NHS and certain components of the tax system come to mind) but a lot is simply nonsensical here! Our freedom comes after the rights of criminals, hell, people in prison here have so many rights it’s ridiculous, from TV to games even! It’s more like summer camp! Not to mention the criminals have guns, so why can’t us law abiding citizens? It pisses me off to no end. It pisses me off the most about land, it all technically is owned by a 20 something year old appointed for the queen! The U.S. has its issues as all countries do, but the freedom of the people comes first. That freedom to defend yourself, own land, own the weapons criminals are using! That is something I long for all countries to adopt. Guns will always exist, so arm the good guy, before the bad guy has his way. (As a side note for how backwards the laws are here, they’ve thought of banning kitchen knives to reduce knife crime.... they’re using knives because they’re the next best thing for attacks! To even own an air soft gun that looks real here you need a defence to say you’re an active player, otherwise it has to be brightly coloured! It’s honestly ridiculous).
Can someone speak for gun grabbers and explain how taking guns from regular(cant say good bc people suck) Americans is going to save lives? Has prohibition of anything ever succeeded?
We don’t even have stand your ground laws in the UK, so if u do manage to get a gun, you can only use it if your life is in danger. Not if someone is taking a baseball bat to your car or setting your house in fire. You should be able to defend your property as well as your life. Firing a warning shot could get you into some serious jail time here as well.
And above all, when you take actual possession of your new firearm, DON'T go running around excitedly screaming "I have a gun!I have a gun!" Walmart doesn't think that it's funny.

Imagine IF HF sold guns and ammo... "Check out my new Tech 9! $20 w/coupon at Harbor Freight, AND I had a coupon for free ammo. Look, the serial number rubs right off." Hahaha.
Great advice. Thank you. There are two things I might add... 1. As mentioned in the video, don’t underestimate the effect that fear and stress can have on your ability to effectively defend your family and home. I was awoken late at night and confronted by a very stressful and unexpected situation. Before that night I considered myself pretty cool under pressure, so I was surprised by how quickly I was transformed into a feckless idiot. It was a nice ‘practice test’ and I got a C+ at best.. That won’t happen again. 2. Educate yourself about what happens AFTER you use a gun to protect yourself. Otherwise you’ll probably be unprepared for the shit storm that follows. It’s important to know what to do/say when the police arrive, understand potential legal impacts, community backlash, etc. There are a bunch of videos and advocacy groups that can educate you.

Being a retired law enforcement officer, this was our instruction: “Never tell anyone at anytime that you were Shooting to Kill. Especially in court. Instead, keep this answer in mind. “I was shooting to stop the advancing threat, and stopped when that goal was achieved.” Trust me, no more questions will be asked when you answer in this manner. And regardless of how many ways or different ways you are asked the same question, answer EXACTLY those same words. In this way, you will avoid a Lot of trouble later on. Because that lawyer at the Other table isn’t your friend and has every intention of tossing you in a prison cell with every dirty trick he can muster. I know a thing or two because I’ve seen a thing or two and have hauled people to prison for this myself. And when you’re sitting there on your ass, and the bad guy just took the room temperature challenge, your troubles are just beginning. When the cops show up, after You call them and just told them your life was in danger and what you are wearing, don’t TELL THEM ANYTHING!!! Be face down on the ground, your pockets emptied and the contents laid in a pile at your feet. Including your gun, safety on and left EXACTLY as it was after you fired your last round. This is important. “I’m the guy who called you!” Officer: What happened? DO NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS WITHOUT YOUR LAWYER!!!!! “That’s my Gun and ID.” YOUR LAWYER: What happened? NOOOOW you answer His questions and you let HIM speak for you. Cops do NOT CARE who was right or wrong. All they want is what We call, “The Collar.” And the cops are going to use Every Single Syllable you utter, in order to FK You and put you in prison. If you have time to write down the facts or what happened before the cops show up, do it. Then crumple it up and hold it in your fist. When the cops ask you what that piece of paper is, you tell them that is to be given to your attorney, you will answer No Further Question other than your to your lawyer and don’t even mumble another sound. When you’re being Booked, point to your ID and remain silent. Remember, your Right to remain silent and that you want your lawyer has already been communicated to the arresting officer. Whether he does his job or not by telling those in Booking or not is Not Your Job. And the booking officer can pound salt until After you have seen your lawyer. If the Booking officer asks you why you refuse to answer questions, “As I’ve told officer forgetful, I exercise my 5th Amendment Right to remain silent, answer no questions and I want my lawyer. And you’d better have your lawyer’s number memorized as they will most likely not let you retrieve it from your cell phone. And don’t unlock it so Booking can look for it, as you just acquiesced your cell phone information for them to dig through too. The cops and the Booking officer(s) are NOT your friends. Wait for your lawyer. Do Not Cave-in to the Booking officer’s draconian tactics of keeping you in a holding cell until you answer questions. Because once you answer One of His Questions, you just gave up your Right to remain silent. You’re Done! They will pound their fists on that metal table you are shackled to for HOURS while you sit there sweating bullets until you’ll say Anything to make it stop and they will twist your words until they have you thinking that you murdered someone. Like I said. They don’t care if you’re innocent. They just want to send you to prison, regardless if you are guilty of a crime or not. **Yes, I know. Long winded. But I’ve seen people do time for “Attempting to fish without a license” when it was a Snoopy pole, for his son’s birthday, with no string on the pole and no tackle in the box, 200 yards from the water!! Don’t tell the cops anything!! Tell your lawyer.
I remember the first time my dad brought me to the gun range he had me learn the 4 rules of gun safety and made me study them hard. He made sure I could remember them at least 30 minutes after he told me them and then 1 hour, and then 2, and then the next day when he was gonna bring me to the range, he made me recite those 4 rules and if I didn’t get them on the first try, I would’ve had to study them more and wait till the next day to go, and I got it perfectly. I didn’t understand why at the time but I’m glad he did that since I understand exactly why he did now.
3:47 I completely agree. Shooting a new gun either before or after purchasing it is the best way to get used to it. The feel of the grip, the weight, the recoil, the action. My family does this exact same thing. We like to call it the gun's "Baptism by Fire". It's also a great way to break in a brand new firearm. Or identify an issue with a used firearm.
Colion is going to be known as a hero in the future history books. He’s one of the finest, most consistent, and most passionate advocates for our 2A rights. God, please protect this man, and protect the USA.
@Daniel oh a name it and claim it heretic. Why don't you name and claim an end to cancer? Why did Jesus say to ASK the Father in his name? Was he wrong?
Colion's paranoid. There's no threat to the 2nd Amendment. I remember when Obama took office everyone was saying "he's gonna take away our guns!" Didn't happen. Same with Biden. The Dems are not anti-2nd amendment. This threat to the 2nd amendment is a myth created by the NRA to scare people into giving them more money. And we all know what the corrupt BS the NRA does with members' money.
My brother in-law would go into town once a week and we would bring His 1911, ( in Cali ) so pretty much remove the magazine, so I asked HIM getting into the car, is it loaded ? no, So I drop the magazine and rack it and out pops a round, always check
I have friends in San Diego and Bakersfield; one already has his carry permit, the other is optimistic he'll have his soon. There *are* some locations in California where getting a carry permit isn't a fantasy.
I live in California and everyone carries out here with a CCW permit... even my wife has a ccw permit. I don't understand why Colin puts CA in the can't carry a gun category... ca sells the most guns in the USA second only to Texas. Wish this guy would stop parroting the rhetoric like a sheeple when it comes to California. If you don't live in LA or SF chances are you have a CCW (if you so desire one)
Robert Henriksen The overwhelming majority of counties in CA issue CCW’s. I’m really not sure why people keep spreading misinformation regarding this subject. Yes, there are a handful of counties that are 100% anti 2A, but they are the minority.
I Live in Palmdale, border to Kern County but still LA County. Any advice on how to get my CCW Permit here? Bought my first Benelli. Picking it up tommorow. Handgun will be my next Firearm.
I'd argue that if you're finding your only results from Ian, you may also be doing it very right. There's nothing that says "get off my lawn" quite like an Inkunzi PAW.
"As if it were loaded" is better said "Treat every gun with care because it is loaded, they are all loaded at all times". If someone says that gun is dangerous you respond "Yes it certainly is". My grandpa told me "When you pull the trigger you cannot bring the bullet back". Everyone needs to read Masaad Ayoob's "In The Gravest Extreme" twice, three times and once a year. Watch videos he is in. Avoid situations where danger can exist, don't go places you shouldn't just because you have a firearm. Start a campaign, and I mean everyone to make CCW permits free to citizens. Remember the Second Amendment does not cover you in your state and your state is at the point that you can have a firearm but only inside your home. Practice and practice some more and clean that weapon afterwards. Keep your firearm in the same place at home, you do not want to look for it when you need it in fact if you do need it you will not find it. In life or death situations fear and panic will take over your brain and body. You will be acting out of rehearsed response and the firearm if it is in your hand must feel familiar and not out of place or foreign to you because you rarely touched it. Do not announce to the world online or anywhere that you own one or ten firearms and never ever post anything stating you are prepared to kill any intruder. Never. I see it all the time...
It's free real estate because any defense lawyer will make it look like you are posturing which will make you look like you wany to use your gun. You should never want to use your gun. It should only be used as a last resort. Even if you have one on you and you or someone else's life is not in danger, you are supposed to leave the area. Not draw your gun just because you are carrying. You'll go to jail lickety split!
Great video, thanks for the insight. I’m currently considering buying a gun for self defense. My dad had countless guns before he died when I was 12. I think he had the right idea.
"I know it's pricey..." These people spend top-dollar on firearms, and don't spend an extra $50 to go the range once. It's the first thing I do while doing paperwork..scheduling a time to take the firearm to the range.
I have at least 8 I can think of that I’ve never fired. One is an SKS still in the cosmoline since I bought it in 2001 or so. Haha I should probably get around to doing something about that.
It cost $70 to rent 1 Glock, 50 rounds and a slot for an hour at my local gun range. They charge $29.99 for 50 rounds of 9mm that I can get from Scheels for $13.99. They make you use their ammo in their rental guns. I’ll opt out and not let the shooting range practically rob me.
I learned everything twice. 1st from my grandfather, 2nd when I went to through the BRM when I was in basic training. I’ve taught all 4 sons everything I know, and they are a good shot now. I’m willing to teach any new first time gun owner for free if they ask. And I’d make sure they know to read all the guns laws of the state they line in.
I’ve been armed most of my life, mostly because of my time in service to our country. I have my CCW. I have many years of training with many weapons. Your videos are outstanding. I am sharing your content with all the people I know, that needs to hear you.
Yep, I made a similar mistake by going on a "day date" with a friend and his girlfriend to my local range - neither had shot a gun before, and the girlfriend had never even held one, but after the RO's great "new shooter orientation" she got, and subsequently after seeing her mag load then chamber perfectly, I let her do her thing while I got my stuff ready... ... and then, less than a G19 mag later, one of the RO's came running into the booth, shouting for everyone to stop and put their guns down... ...bc apparently when I told her how to align her sights, she misunderstood me and was stacking the front sight *over* the rear, and thus had put 10+ rounds into the ceiling and target pulley before the R.O. saw it and came rushing in to "correct" her. Moral (maybe..?): there's a reason why "good" gun owners obey The Rules, despite their current circumstances, and should always be willing to offer some help (without "mansplaining") to new shooters; not just for your and their safety, but to also prevent a fun experience from quickly turning into an embarrassing one. (Or something like that; I shouldn't be writing YT comments immediately before bed... sigh)
Brandon T Lucky that y'all were indoors. Until They can snatch the pebble. You ManSplain the shit out of everything. I have taught many new shooters, most of them female. Often They are too nervous to fully comprehend instructions. It is best To give them time to watch, and get acclimated, to such a LOUD enviroment Before letting them fire their 1st shot.
C Foe I've seen it too many times. Guys bringing their girl to the range, and let her shoot without a lick of instruction. Maybe This time when the range opens back up I'll do a video, on how to teach.
Not always. Public defenders for example. With the internet, you can do enough research to get yourself out of pleading guilty or taking a "deal". There are a scary number of stories in urban cities like NYC where young guys are arrested on mistaken identity and serve a couple years just awaiting a trial.
I defended myself against a two star general, a captain, a sergeant major, NCIS and CID. With the help of just ask . com It's possible if you understand both due process and criminal court procedure I couldn't trust a lawyer to be unbiased nor could i afford one
