I’m a new nurse so I don’t have a system down just yet, but to give myself a bit of a schedule during my shift, I write a sticky note with the hours 1500-2300 vertically down the left hand side, then I’ll write room numbers & a brief synopsis of what needs to be done during each hour (e.g. 1600- rm 208, vanco.... 1730 Rm. 211, sliding scale check) etc., then I try to group my shift assessments in with the first task needed for each of my patients. It doesn’t always work out if I have someone who needs a more urgent assessment, but it’s a good backbone!! I also find my shift goes smoother if I actually take some time at the beginning of the shift to read through notes from the day shift nurses, attendings, consults, PT/OT, and respiratory staff (I do this after report unless I need to wait on a nurse who’s already giving report to someone else). :) thanks for the video!!

Stan John it does!! It’s been 2 months since I started on my own and it has been getting better. I realized that making a master med list first, then checking over my orders and writing down the pertinent info and prioritizing who needs me first really helps save time! :) I think what’s getting to me now is the critical thinking part 😂 my one braincell can barely keep up

So helpful thank you. Especially about focusing on completing a task for one patient at a time. We are so understaffed where I work, and at times, I have felt the urge to run and check call bells while residents are sitting in the shower or on the toilet. Crazy! But your advice makes so much sense, and I will never do that again. It is crazy how we put ourselves and our clients at risk because management is too cheap to have adequate staff.

If you are having trouble with time management. Might want to start at night it's a lot less hectic and there is a a downtime from 2am to 5am. I am now a day shift nurse if it wasn't for personal reasons I would go back to nights. I love nights! No managers, family,social workers, PT, case managers , social workers etc...its lovely lol

Thank you for this video! I'm a new nurse and have recently gotten spoken to by management regarding staying late to finish up my work. I feel frustrated as I work my ass off, don't pee or take breaks during my shift, but with 33 patients I can't seem to fit it all in my 8 hour shift and have to finish documenting, inputting orders, calling family members/pharmacy, and of course passing meds and doing treatments etc before I leave. It's tough out there, but I love your advice and your videos!

Thank you for taking the time to help and educate nurses on time management. You come across so genuine, caring and funny! I was an acute care nurse many moons ago then transitioned into home care services because the hospital became too hectic. I felt everything was too “chop chop” and the only thing that mattered was tasks and documentation. I wanted to give good quality care. Believe it or not now I am considering going back to acute care and your video is very helpful and motivating me! Thank you.

I really agree with you on things being very task and document heavy in hospitals and even nursing homes. I think it’s good that you went into home health because it really helps to keep patients in their homes and out of these institutions, because so many of them aren’t ran well. But I also believe that someone has to do the work and I hope that you make ur way back into acute care. Thanks for your kind words

SO helpful!! I’m a brand-new nurse (like 12 days post NCLEX lol) and my first Nursing position is in LTC/SNF. I’m engaged, taking care of disabled family members, etc...& I feel like I’m DROWNING. I was a CNA for 7 years, but at certain and most points, that is only helpful in a limited capacity. I want to run away, cry,!and quit because of how involved, stressful, and in-depth this job is. I am paid by far, more than any of the other students I know that have passed the NCLEX...But I’m the only one employed at a LTC/SNF...Probably a reason why. 😱😰🤯 Your videos HELP SO MUCH to help me plan and navigate my way through what/how to effectively perform and succeed. 😘🤗😇

I was so new and finished late and I would not have time to clean the cart and restock it and nurses swore I did it on purpose. I tried so hard to not let it happen but I was so behind. I promise it wasn't on purpose. Don't treat new nurses like it's on purpose , we are learning!
@yourfavnurseb9699
@yourfavnurseb9699 4 месяца назад
That is true, intentions is a huge thing. But if you find that it’s causing issues with other staff you may just need to take those extra few minutes to get it done before the next shift comes then you can focus on what ur behind in. But I know it’s a lot when you are starting off, heck it’s a lot even when you’ve been a nurse for a while

Learn the art of slowly walking away the room🤣🤣🤣i think one of the most difficult part is the delegation for me because i am the kind of a person who doesn't really like to bother other people as long as i can do it i will do it. On top of that, i used to work before without a having a CNA in my unit so yeah

It will come to you, I’ve found that the best way to delegate is to let your aids now what your expectations are at the start of the shift, that way you set the stage for what you need then to do for you/the patients.

Nurse B, seriously I feel like you are one of the few nurses out here hustlin with your heart in the right place. A lot of other nurses are out here making it look easier than it is to get in and get their degree and they just seem really shallow to me. I used to be subscribed to the Nurse Nook and The Twin Diaries, but their content is nothing like yours. They don't have kids and even though I am younger than they are, I feel like those nurses and I aren't on the same maturity level. They don't be out here on their soap box and preaching about the importance of respecting the elderly, the true meaning of nursing, etc. None of their videos have touched my heart like your "STOP BEING HEARTLESS" & "I JUST HAD MY WORST NIGHT WORKING". The Nurse Nook went through this weird phase where she only made videos to get some extra coins through sponsorships. She would post two three times a month tops and they were only about websites and companies that had reached out to her for advertising. Nurse B out here be posting 3 times a week. And that just made me feel like she would only post when it felt convenient for her wallet. Then she went three months without posting a single video and I just unsubscribed because I thought her channel was just dead and she wasn't going to post anything. All three of them work and live in Houston where I'm from but I don't get the same family vibes that I get from Yourfavnurseb. You're so humble and authentic and just REAL. I skipped on the meet and greet The nurse nook and Fatima Francesa did here in Houston last year because at that point, I just felt like their personalities were kind of shallow and spending my money on that weren't worthwile. Your videos and wisdom inspire me so much and I thank you for passing on that wealth of information!

Duduyemi ! It really just depends. So if u can grab it great. But if he swamped and u just so happen to have an aid walk by you ask them if they can take it down when they get a min. Or I’ll have a patient ask for iced water I’ll go grab it then I’ll get caught up in something else and then I’ll see the CNA and ask if they can take it back to the room. It’s all about trying to find a balance and take the load of the work off of each other because the nurse and the CNA is prob super s busy but if u don’t get things done as a nurse things can get REALLY bad
