Darko Milicic is better than LeBron James?
It is very difficult to predict how good NBA Draft prospects will become. But there have been a few times over the last couple decades where a draft take was so bad, it's inexcusable.
In this video I will look back at 7 of the worst NBA Draft takes of all time. Some of these left me absolutely speechless.

Good video but Kevin Garnett was not the first player to enter the NBA right out of high school. Darryl Dawkins and Bill Willoughby both did it in the seventies, and Moses Malone went straight to the ABA.

Right, and "dominating is being generous". There were times Ayton completely disappeared despite being clearly the best player on the court, and they also lost in the first round of the tournament. A true #1 pick doesn't lose by 20 to Buffalo!
@theecharmingbilly
@theecharmingbilly Год назад
@Robert Hanief it's the NCAA Tournament. Fantastic players and teams bounce early often. Ayton and Ristic balled hard that game Trier, Alkins, and Jackson-Cartwright never showed up. That team had zero bench presence, and that Buffalo team was severely underseeded, and pundits were saying as such. That Arizona team also went through a bunch of nonsensical dirt because Mark Schlabach at ESPN is a rotten journalist. The starting 5 was often fantastic, but the team was flawed and burned out. Trier was moaning and groaning on selection Sunday about being stuck in Boise. DeAndre was an absolute beast. This idea he disappeared isn't really true. He was the best overall player in college that season.

Yeah but no one knew that Jordan would become what he became. The guy they drafted, Sam Bowie, was actually a really good 7 footer out of Kentucky. He just couldn't stay healthy. Also, you guys already had Clyde at the shooting guard so at the time, drafting Bowie over Jordan made sense. Same with KD and Greg Oden. Greg was also a REALLY good 7 footer at Ohio State. Had he been able to stay healthy, I think you guys would've been very happy with him.
@everettst.claire870
@everettst.claire870 Год назад
@@derekstewart6704 the drafts at the time did make sense. No arguments there. They had Clyde Drexler and LaMarcus Aldridge, at each of their respective positions. However Aldridge and Durant had proven chemistry, and both Oden, and Bowie, had a history of injury. Not sure why they passed on Julius Erving though. Every NBA team have picks that they'd like take back. Portland's just happened be 3 of the best players to ever take the court.

Love this. It's so rare the tape has been rewound and diarrhea of the mouth is exposed. This should happen annually in every sport. Especially preseason college football rankings. Whenever a player or team falls way below expectations, these same jack wagons who predicted success, openly question what happened to the team or player they projected so high. They never take their medicine and admit just how foolishly wrong they were. Instead, they keep their job and clout only to do something similar the following year. Follow ups like this need to expose just who got it wrong and how many x's they've failed at their own "expertise."

Your takes definitely are solid I feel. I think with Steph though, the concerns were warranted. Simply because, it was a different style of game back when he was drafted. The game didn’t really start to switch to the outside dominate shot like it is these days, and there’s absolutely no way you could’ve ever predicted he would’ve ever been better than THE Reggie Miller. You could “nearly” have a game between 2 Hall of Fame starting 5s from players drafted outta HS. Key note; nearly all HS kids drafted were BIG MEN, so there aren’t 4 “Guards” in the NBA HOF after going preps to pros. So, we’ll have Lebron & Kobe running point for each squad, & all stars Rashard Lewis & Monta Ellis filling the last 2 G spots. Without further a-due, here’s my 2 rosters in no particular order & balanced out to make it fair as possible. Let’s hear YOUR thoughts.💭 C- Dwight Howard, 2004 F- Daryl Dawkins, 1975 F- Rashard Lewis, 1998 G- Tracy McGrady, 1997 G- LeBum, 2003 C- Amare Stoudemire, 2002 F- Moses Malone, 1975* F- KG, 1995 G- Monta Ellis, 2005** G- Kobe, 1996 RESERVES; C- Andrew Bynum, 2005 F- Shawn Kemp, 1989 F- Josh Smith, 2004 G- Lou Williams, 2005 G- JR Smith, 2004 *Malone was the 1st to ever play professionally right outta high school, starring in the ABA after being originally drafted in Round 3 of the 1974 ABA draft. Two years later the ABA merged w NBA, and he was drafted 5th in their “dispersal draft”. So, a Top 20 Overall player in the history of the game & 1 of the original of the NBAs “All 50 at 50” makes my squad any way you look at it. **The last year high schoolers could get drafted was 2005.

For example, I thought Steph Curry was overrated and my belief came back in 2017, when he was hyped as this magnificent 3-point shooter, then upon my second game in keeping up with him, he went 0-11 in 3PT range against the 76ers. Now, Curry is making more of his shots consistently and he keeps up the same energy for the entire duration of a game. He's also a record-holder for most points made of 3PTers, and he proved that he can still win titles without the pile-on/super team behind him. I now like the guy... and yes, he is this magnificent 3PT shooter.

Kobe entered the league in 1996, when coaches and GMs laughed at high school kids. he was forced to ride the bench for years because of that stigma. on Kobe ...18 years old entering the league have had success in the league such as Lebron and even Bynum. But yes so many have had maturity issues and work ethic issues, Lenny Cooke comes to mind. Nobody could predict Kobe he would be the hardest worked in the last 30 years or so. A lot of it also comes down to where you go. All the things said about Steph Curry is true. Undersized. He does not have elite athleticism, or passing ability, he can be but defensively is not thought of as all NBA defensive teamer. Curry is the only NBA player that has been able to dominate and win it all with outside shooting. Dame is stuck in 2 and done zone. Miller could not do it. How many teams could Curry win it all with? I am not necessarily saying he is a system qb but how many rings would have on team such as the mid 90s Pacers.

Kevin Garnett was NOT the first player drafted out of high school, to the NBA… As a Pistons fan you would bring up Darko… True Pistons fans are still pissed about that.🤦🏾‍♂️😡🤬 Nice premise for your video… But you’re gonna have to get better at your research…🧐

Taking Kyrie was a mistake. The Cavs were in the basement every year he played until Lebron returned to CLE. Lebron dragged Kyrie to the finals kicking and screaming. Then Kyrie didn't like the fact that Lebron was the unquestionable leader of the team, so he blew the team up to go play for the Celtics then the Nets, both of which have been unmitigated disasters. So let's review: everywhere Kyrie has played has been an utter failure, except when he was playing with the best player of this generation.

Steph took a long time to become what he is. And it was a valid assessment at the time, but he is an outlier

Jrue Holiday is great player defensively one of the best guards ever I think that was only one who was a good player of them all he is not better then Steph doesnt have higher upside but I would take him us 3rd pick in that draft aftter Harden. I would take him over Demar yes.

Brandon Jennings was a solid player just didn’t get developed and same with darko he went to a team that didn’t value him or want to develop him and he lost his confidence

I think some of the reasonings were acceptable conceptually although have been proved wrong after. There’s some level of reasoning to saying that in general 18 year olds aren’t as ready. There are obvious and well know exceptions (and naturally Kobe is one of them) but that generic observation is not completely wrong … Steph is not a pure point guard indeed. I don’t think that bit is fundamentally wrong… what they failed is to realize how his other skills (comb of executional shooting, movement without the ball and agility) would transform the game…
