I hadn’t cross stitched for about 25 years, I recently started stitching again and am stitching in hand. I find it more enjoyable and so much faster.

I had a bit of a break from cross stitch for a while and came back to it around 5 years ago, but I've always stitched in hand. I definitely find it faster too! I'm glad you're enjoying coming back to this fab hobby 😄

Nothing wrong with diving in at the deep end... you'll get the hang of it soon enough, and I'm delighted if my videos can help you 😊 Fair warning...cross stitching can be very addictive 😂

I have to say I have only ever used cotton embroidery thread and I generally prefer DMC brand. So I can't really speak to the silk or satin threads but I did find an article that might help you; lordlibidan.com/are-satin-and-silk-threads-worth-using/ If you are brand new to cross stitch then I would definitely recommend DMC stranded cotton thread as this will be the easiest to use. I have heard some stitchers say the silk/satin threads are trickier to use.

Wait... you're SUPPOSED to use the hoop while stitching? I'm a beginner and thought you were supposed to put the finished product in it for displaying... didn't realize it was a tool too.

It's funny that a lot of people start out using a hoop and don't realise it isn't essential... but you're the other way round 😂 I am a big fan of hoops for displaying finished pieces, but while stitching...ugh. I have tried with a hoop several times and just find it awkward to hold, and I stitch faster without it! I always say try with and without to see which you like best but there's no right or wrong...despite what some stitchers will tell you! Happy stitching either way 😄

@@catkinandlillie It does feel a bit awkward trying to hold the hoop and stitch. Thanks for the video btw!
