Wow. Yarn under. I had no idea there even was a technique called this and would have never figured out the result would be different lol

I just started using 100% cotton yarns and I LOVE how they look and feel after being knit/crocheted. They are a bit tougher to work with, but it’s worth it for me. Using a smaller hook also makes it harder but the right stitches look great to me for amigurumi!

Howdy, I don't think I ever heard about the difference between yarn over and under (I see I'm not alone). Wow your creations are beautiful! Thank you for sharing.

I had always wondered why I couldn't see the v stitches in some amigurumis. Thanks to you now I know that it's done by doing the yarn under technique.

Thank you!! I always wondered how they got that extra poofy look. Now I know it’s by using the yarn under technique!😊😊

So I am very new to amigurumi. I bought your Repunzel pattern today . I’m making the arms and found it hard to hold on to it so I stuck an unsharpened pencil into the arm and continued to crochet. It helped a lot.

Same. That’s my downfall. The body look terrible when attached. I also like the eyes. Is that regular felt and what glue are you using?

Thank you so much for these tips! I was wondering how everyone’s amigurumis were made because their stitches looked different from mine and no matter what hook/ tension I used I couldn’t get the X stitch for the neater look. I would’ve never figured it out on my own. Turns out I needed to do yarn under! So informative thank you SO SO much!!

I'm somewhat new to crochet/amigurumi (I started back in August), and this video was super helpful. I've got to try the yarn under trick!! ^^
@dlh975

Yarn under has lots of cool uses but be careful! If you get used to it, it's really hard to switch back and forth. I accidentally started doing yarn under and it took a while to get used to yarn over again for non-amigurumi projects.

Something interesting about acrylic yarns is that they're made of synthetic - or man-made - materials, so they have a lot of pros and cons. The pros being that is pretty stretchy and durable, so it's great for items that are going to be touched a lot - dolls, clothes, accessories, and blankets. I've found that for my sweaters, it seems to get softer the more I wash it, though it does make those little fiber pills that i need to "shave" off occasionally. The cons here are few, in my opinion; Because it's a plastic-based synthetic, it doesn't handle heat well, so using acrylic for things like coasters or tea towels is a very bad idea! You also have to be careful about washing it, as putting in hot wash or dry setting can make it really rough and scratchy. It also tends to get snagged and wrap around things when in the washing machine, so make sure to put your yarn goods in mesh bags beforehand, or wash them separately.

I find it interesting about people not knowing yarn under. Then Again i did it automatically. I first started crocheting for the heck of it years again and learn it that way. And when I looked into it for amigurumi, I was taught yarn over was the way to go. But I find it more stubborn so I gonna go back to yarn under

Hi there! Thanks for this great video! I do have a question. If you place the face last, how do you make the safety eyes stay in place? Glue?
@SarahTang2002
@SarahTang2002 4 года назад
Yes, glue is good! A little dab of fabric glue under the eye before placing is enough to secure them in place. It's helpful to use something (I use a pointed nail file for example) to poke between the stitches where the eyes will be, and wiggle it around to make the hole wider for the eyes
@Amiguruku

Nikki Overcash yeah I only put a little piece of glue on the eye’s stem

i do the yarn under for the invisible decrease but i always wonder how much to stuff and the smaller i get closer to the closing bit and stuff it there i can see the stiches stretching's and see some fluff. Ell i can as im picky with my work
@nightcatbooks

I'll sometimes use the recommended size hook but double up the yarn so the stuffing doesn't show through.

You mentioned the type of yarn and the tension, but what weight of yarn do you use? I ask because it looks like the yarn you are using may be thinner than the average DK acrylic yarn. (Double Knit yarn has a big 4 on the label, thinner and fingering yarns have 3, 2, or 1) Since thinner yarn makes a tighter tension easier and it makes a smaller (and cuter!) amigurumi, I'd really like to know. Thanks!
