Dua Lipa has such a unique voice, along with Miley. They are both deep and thic toned but in different ways. Lady Gaga is a vocal genius tbh. She is so versatile and always on point with her technique. She is a gem. Loved the video!
@@hughw2377 Her vocal tone is quite unique and different from the usual high, bright and girly-ish voices in mainstream pop, but her vocal chops aren't as efficient as the main pop vocalists. If anything, her potential is extremely underdeveloped.
@@hughw2377 Dua Lipa is on her way to becoming a contralto if not already. A dramatic mezzo at very least. Weighty voice, surely more than say Adele’s voice. It’s rare on a woman, though not necessarily rare within said type.
The storytellers are those who’s songs can’t be sung better than anyone but only with themselves. The emotions that they pour out reaches everyone’s soul.
definitely agree with the jesy being the storyteller! when it comes to conveying emotions jesy always hit the spots. next to her is jade (that bridge in lolm is just *chef's kiss*)
Rose is a storyteller couldn't agree more, hoping she sticks with that and grace the industry with what it lacks. Would like Wendy to also go through that route cause she is literal perfection.
U just used videos where Rihanna dodged those high notes, isn't that biased As a singer there are bad days as well as good ones, so don't criticise the bad ones
because she isnt. lmao she tried the rap thing and went right back to the regular country and pop bs. Gaga did pop rock jazz country balads whatever you want she got it.
@@moe3691 She "tried the rap thing" and released an entire album in the trap genre. Did her country album, then did Plastic Hearts which is rock, and has now gone back to pop with Flowers. That's versatility.
I just watched a compilation of dua lupa’s best live vocals and I was surprised how good she was. Her best moments are usually traced back to her debut era like I love her cover to alessia cara’s here I don’t think she lost her vocal potential at all I think she’s tone it down with the future nostalgia album/era I would hope she becomes vocally improved and expressive for her next album era
Dua in her debut era was very interesting, she wasn´t afraid taking some risks and try different things, yes she failed a lot of time but the ones she nailed are some of her absolute best vocals and they are pretty good. With Future Nostalgia she improved but she really tone it down, she sticked to comfort and vocals she knew she could consistently perform without any problem and wasn´t that much willing to take risks and experiment, which is a shame. I hope she´ll experiment more again in her upcoming era.
@@richmaxmchalliwchester1984 right I think she tone it down bc future nostalgia era was mostly a lot of choreography and dancing which was part of her response to her lack of dancing skills becoming a meme so to perform the songs while doing choreography it would be easier to tone down her vocals especially for someone like dua who prior didn’t have top tier vocal control and technique and technical dancing skills to able to do that
@@Kevin-rg3yc completely agree. Tone down her vocals was good decision, choreo was awesome. She really proved her skills with this era but her next era will be really something else.
The problem with Dua Lipa is that she relies on a certain tone and roughness in her voice that is difficult to replicate in a live setting. She's got the vocal chops for sure, she just needs to stop trying to sound a certain way when her voice is trying to do something else.
It's no wonder that ROSÉ is placed in the Storyteller type. She is very good at conveying the meaning of the songs. She doesn't sing a song to your ears but to your soul. She really sings from the heart. That's why she is a good singer. Listen to 'Rosé - if its you' so you can understand what I mean.
Showing an example of Madison from 4 years ago is not representative of her technique now. She’s had an immense improvement. She’s rarely off. There’s a lot of talent and potential in her.
Okay, those two Rihanna clips are quite shocking and hilarious. I know she's not the best vocalist but those two performances are the definition of "doing the barest minimum!!" 😂😂😂 I think there has to be an explanation for those performances though. I don't think that's quite usual
Mmh well, she does that a lot actually 😂 she’s more than capable of delivering very strong vocals but she’s pretty lazy live. I’ve seen her live multiple times and she directs the mic towards the audience A LOT lol
I would Jade Thirlwall in the chameleon category. Rap, R&B, pop, rock, ballads, Latin - there are times I hear her voice and don’t even recognize it. She’s so versatile.
I love this concept and enjoyed this video so much, you definitely should make part 2 and even part 3 and put other singers into these 7 categories, it´s really fun.
Chameleon-Genre bending vocals They can sound like artists in a specific category all at once Ace-basically singers that r good in their upper register
Chameleons - incredibly versatile vocalists able to dive into a variety of different genres Aces - vocalists below the age of 30, who impress not only with their skill set but also with their maturity
this one is so goooood. it did make me think a little. i think i less agree with unpredictable and casual. katy perry is underrated as a vocalist. she has way less off days than what's assumed. she's just been a high energy performer who doesn't have a focus on her vocal performance being perfect everytime. but she's shown more than a few times that she's completely comfortable in her voice and has only improved over time. and while dua and rihanna don't necessarily stand out a ton technique wise. they do stand out vocal tone and style wise. dua has such a unique, thick voice. rihanna is beloved for her vocal colour. i would say aces and storytellers are the types i gravitate towards most. i want to enjoy someone's voice to the full extent and feel. i appreciate balance more than anything. sound good and match the music. give me something that pull my attention and keeps it. i did like what you had to say about lost and found. i always feel weird about those ones. it just always comes across boring. but even worse, disingenuous and lowkey sometimes creepy. it's strange to me that there's these fairly successful artists who have no individuality at all. it makes me wonder what they're like as people and if they've chosen to be generic in order to get a cash grab from a couple of hits or not. there's always a few of them. every now and then they get replaced with new faces. they're always just there.
Katy might not be in the same league as Whitney or Xtina when it comes to vocals, but her performances for MTV Unplugged cemented her (FOR ME) as an all-time fave. I wish she’d bust out her acoustic guitar and make music like that again.
Rihanna is lazy, it's true, but she hasn't had any vocal training and she has more clips where she hits the notes than the ones she doesn't and when she wants she can do a lot of amazing things with her voice, no one is Beyoncé but it's not easy to sing afterwards to have danced
@joanne a good example would be gayle. Her song that was popular was definitely not an organic hit on the radio. The song was #1 and she had like 2k followers on twitter like be fr! Plus her music isn't anything special. Not hating to be fair I listen to a lot of pop tho
@@craiyg______xtinaswigmaria6471 the fact that the abcdefu song got nominated for SOTY speaks volumes about the sh**show that is the Grannies... Most prestigious award my effing arse
I don't know what that Rihanna video was about but it was confusing. I think she can sing but she isn't a great LIVE singer. I honestly think Christina has an amazing voice but she is an over singer IMO, she just over does it alot and it's kinda annoying. Don't come for me I think she's still brilliant.
Agreed. Rihanna has a very unique charismatic rich tone and forward placement that’s perfect for the edgy pop music she’s so great at making. Just such a distinctive tone and she’s not afraid to get gritty and be imperfect which are all strengths, but on the flip side, Rihanna isn’t the best live singer. Christina has a perfect rich thick tone that’s so soulful and pleasant when she isn’t doing too much, which she loves to do 😭 Like pls, you’ve got one of the most gorgeous voices I’ve ever heard, that tone when she isn’t oversinging, growling, and straining is just so effortlessly beautiful like in that jazzy clip. She doesn’t need to over sing to prove that she can seriously sing. If she was more tasteful with when to show off a little, I’d listen to her a lot more. The clips of her in this video were nice though, she wasn’t doing too much for the most part.
@@superninja6481 well said about both women especially Christina. She really doesn't have anything to prove so I wish she'd stop over singing and putting strain on her voice for no reason lol. It's like ok sis we know you can sing you don't need to try to over impress when all she's doing is putting strain and potentially permanent damage to her voice. Rihanna can absolutely sing but like we agree she just isn't great live on the spot. Maybe nerves or easily fatigued but we know she's talented and has a unique stylistic sound. Still love her voice.
Binging your old videos are so nostalgic to me haha... Btw here are the vocalists that are not included in the vid if I were to categorize them... Feel free to disagree Demi Lovato - storyteller Kelly Clarkson - ace Taeyeon - ace Olivia Rodrigo - storyteller Selena Gomez - lost and found Britney Spears - Chameleon Ariana Grande - ace Beyonce - ace Vocal trinity - ace Tori Kelly - sharp-edged/ace (idrk because her vocal agility is way too good but her lows are also good but I don't think it's as good as her vocal agility)
I cringe whenever singers "attempt" Whitney's version of "I Will Always Love You." It just screams talent show or beauty pageant. And this girl at 7:13 is huffing and puffing (metaphorically) to even do a decent cover of what Whitney used to do effortlessly. These types need a new go-to song.
@@Haru-ml6gi i didn't say she did. She's just the most popular and the first person who came to mind. I didn't even just mean vocally. Sometimes I mistake her for AG if I'm not really paying attention. Not sure what that means. Lol probably nothing.
@@KenBarbz ariana is not near to be ACE, she has decent low at best, doesnt use her head voice and her mid belts are just adobe average the only aspect ariana is so amazing is at agility
I often wonder how would all of them sounded without instruments. Realistically if your a a true vocalist , you should at least know how to used your voice dynamics, and they should definitely knows how too toying their voice however they want . Ohh by the way MORISSETTE is phenomenal when it comes to it without instruments. Acapela because she has that Full Wide range of a voice, with rich velvety gorgeous Tone 🇨🇦
Well, Christina can't keep up with Gaga when it comes to versatility because her voice has basically 3 sounds to it. Beautiful angelic falsetto oriented, neutral/powerful and pushed screaming painful to listen to whenever she hits any belt over C5
i'm surprised u didn't mention him cuz he's one of the biggest artists today but i feel like harry styles falls under the "unpredictable" category cuz he has a lot of different styles and u never know which one he'll do next. back in the day and during his debut album he was such a belter and storyteller but everytime he released new music he covered more ground and widened his range, i like that about him.
