Some shoes are trendy and fashionable but they're plain UGLY! It doesn't matter if you wearing the most beautiful dress if you're wearing ugly shoes you outfit won't look elegant because you can never walk gracefully in heavy and clompy, ugly shoes.

True true! Years of pointy heels and now in my later years my feet are a wreck and sandals are a distant memory. I was glamorous in my youth .. but the price I paid is definitely not worth it. Now shoes are so hard to find to fit my horrible feet. Sigh… what price beauty?

Having worn pointy heeled shoes for too many years - they were the finest, however they still resulted in my disforming my toes, I wholeheartedly applaud what I consider to be the “ liberation of the feet”. Why sacrifice health to beauty when we can have both? There are many aspects of the new shoes aesthetic that I love, good common sense is one of them.

I agree 100%. The high-heeled clogs made me roar with laughter. As a Dutchwoman I can tell you that clogs were designed for use in marshes and farmlands! But here's my question: what does the elegant woman with arthritis wear?
@MsBuffalopoo

Yes, the ugly clunky shoes are not elegant and pretty. But, I live in a city amd we have to walk. Sometimes 10 miles a day. None of the stylish shoes have enough support for my lifestyle. Loafers come close but my feet are narrow and I walk right out of them. What to do?
@judithcatlett8518

I agree 100% with the shoes/sandals you chose to cover. Every time I see the Birkenstock style sandal, it makes me think of Fred Flintstone, and he didn’t wear sandals, he just had big feet. And that’s what that style does to anyone who wears them. Question? Why do women wear thick-soled boots with a beautiful outfit? I’ll never know. You may have guessed, you really hit a chord with me. Thanks for covering these ugly shoes and sandals.
@Ilovechicpeas

Maybe people like myself with arthritis of the feet who can’t put pressure on their big toe? We have to wear rigid soles that don’t bend and shoes with a wide toe box. Not attractive but no option.

I own several pairs of Birkenstock’s, and I’m planning to buy some fisherman sandals as well. No apologies from me. Just like I’m not a fan of high heels (I do love kitten heels, low wedges and a small block heel) . I think high heels can translate as overdone and overly thought out. But, each person likes what they like.

To me, clothes, shoes and accessories are all about play, not about being "classy", sophisticated, etc., unless of course that is your priority, and that's fine too. My adult daughter is very "classical" in her look, it works for her. I used to be, but I'm not anymore, as it doesn't work well on me. I like to "break" an outfit with something totally unexpected, knocking the whole thing a bit off kilter. That's the "play" part for me. 😊

Yes, these shoes look ugly. But some of them have soles or padding in them to make them feel as though you are walking on pillows. Some people need the support of thick straps to hold the shoe on their feet. Others have foot issues that prevent them from wearing the elegant shoes we would all love to have. I cannot wear slip ons, slides or loafers. No matter what, they fall off my feet. I wear what is comfortable for me to wear and walk in. If they look ugly, there are more important things in life than ugly shoes. Anyway, I can look elegant from the ankles up. Lol.

I have some very fine looking wedges that are beautiful with longer dresses. Having spent my youth in 4” stilettos, my ankles and toes are now distorted to the point I need an operation. I now require comfort and balance instead of the classic elegance of a high heel. I’m a classic dresser and always complemented on what I put together, so I think it’s just about finding a good balance, I also think it depends on what type of woman you are. Confidence is everything, no matter what you wear.

With the exception of the 'fisherman sandal' I totally agree with you about the others as have a pair of the former (cognac in color and have a good gripping sole) as might wear them for protection of my toes on certain terrains as well in a warm climate, where otherwise one might choose sneakers/trainers which do not appeal to me. On that note however, slip on sandals with a low block or kitten heel and single vamp strap IMO are not only that unstable to walk in but can be very noisy on rigid surfaces with their flap-flap-flap-flap..... 😊.

I agree with you 100%. I am in my 60s now and have hated ugly, big soled, clumsy looking shoes ever since I was old enough to care what was on my feet! My heart sinks at the start of every season when the fashion industry decides that these sorts of shoes or boots are what we should be wearing because it always comes down to the high street. Over the year’s I’ve become convinced that the fashion industry likes to make women look as ugly as possible! I have never followed trends and refuse to wear any of them and will hunt high and low to find daintier, more elegant shoes or else wear shoes I have bought some years ago that come from a ‘prettier flattering shoe time’. 🥰💜

I think platform thick espadrilles are meant to be worn under flares, wide leg pants and maxi skirts. You know the proportions would be more balanced that way.

Gemma, I love you and your style videos, which is why I watch them all with interest. You are wise, elegant and stylish, having impeccable taste. These shoes make my eyes bleed. I have 200+ shoes and they are all beautiful, elegant and dainty. These are all hideous and I nearly cried at them, but thank you for sharing your thoughts and pointing out the ugliness of these styles. Let them all burn.... please. Long live elegance and femininity!!! Keep up the good sartorial advice my friend 😘💋❤

Love your channel! I have some of these shoes I need a big clear out 😅 I love espadrilles and Cork wedges but the rest look awful 😖 I don't follow too many trends I prefer to look feminine 💝

I didn't know that those sandals were called dad shoes, but it makes sense. It's what my friends' fathers used to wear (especially with socks) to be around the house, decades ago.

I agree with most of your choices and think those chunky/heavy shoes ruin an outfit. However, I have 2 pairs of clogs by Merrell and they are the most comfortable shoes I own. I have foot problems and need an arch support also I cannot have an over flexible base so the inflexibility you dislike is what makes my feet pain-free. I do struggle with how to they drag down a look but sometimes comfort must win.

Totally agree! I just wear hiking sandals for a HIKE! And my clocks (years ago I thought they are cool) - are just worn in m garden 🤭😘🌷

I wouldn't be caught dead in those shoes. They just scream to me 😱 "I've given up on life!" 😆

IMHO the biggest issue with these shoes is the excessive platform sole.most of them would be fine if the soles were smaller. Personally I love the look of fisherman sandals, loafers, espadrilles and Birkies. I love seeing women look comfortable in shoes that won’t deform their feet, but also that don’t make them clomp.

I agree with you, 100%! On the other end of the spectrum are rubber flip-flops. Some women wear them with beautiful outfits and they just ruin the look with their flip-flops. There is nothing uglier, more unsanitary or worse for the feet. They belong on the beach - ONLY!

Great, flip flops should be added on the ugly list

Your opinions are my opinions! Completely agree. I did own a pair of clogs in the 70"s because they were in style for a while then, but they were hard to walk in.

These aren’t just ugly, they’re HIDEOUS!! I wish people would consider what looks good rather than follow the latest trends. That has little to do with having actual style. Love your videos!!

You are absolutely right! Yes, the beauty might be in the eye of the spectator, but it's just personal preference. Real beauty is always balance and harmony which these shoes certainly don't have.

I agree, I have skinny ankles and thin calfs and these shoes make my feet look enormous. I have bee on the hunt for comfortable sandals for all day sight seeing that aren't too bulky. I've been looking for years and cant find the best solution.

Hi , I would like to have your advice: what type of clothes goes well with this type of shoe : chunky heel , low platform (it isn't a sandal, it is closed toe shoes) . Color black. Thank in advance for your help.

I love clogs, the ones I’ve had are flexible, soft and have rubber outsoles, no clomping anywhere. I don’t think I would buy a pair of wooden shoes.

I couldn't agree more, these style of shoes don't flatter anyone. Glad I'm not the only one who felt that way.

I do have some clogs, not traditional ones though much daintier made by Pikolinos and they’re not at all clompy they’re tan with a punched hole design and beautiful soft leather with a small square leather covered heel and I’ve had them for years and have a bag to match! I can nod to the trend without buying new and be much smarter and more comfortable ;)
