As a Canadian, I have been to Texas, Florida, Nevada, & California; all in the last 3 years, & I must admit, Americans are far nicer than we are lead to believe. The Mainstream Media, & Social Media would have you believing that you can to get shot or mugged at any moment, but I never felt that at all.

You aren't completely wrong, but to also be a little more nuanced or fair, there are plenty of places in this huge country where you do actually have to be worried about being mugged, or any sort of crime. It for sure doesn't represent the whole country, and most people who visit here out of the country won't be visiting those areas. But every state has its places that you are best off not coming to, to varying degrees. The thing with the United States is it's so vast, with so many different types of people, that you can't really stereotype it as one single thing. And the news is always going to be reporting crimes, so it's overrepresented by default. But no, the average tourist has next to nothing to worry about here. But if you live in this country, there are for sure many places you don't want to live and avoid at all costs. lol

That homeless boom has only happened since Trump left the White House. We have always had some, but not like it is now. This is a consequence of our open southern border allowing in mass amounts of drugs, more people and human traffickers

You guys would be surprised by the many many people that you probably saw and met that were carrying guns, but they were carrying them concealed. Tens of millions of Americans have their concealed carry permit. Speaking for myself, I can’t remember the last time that I went into a public place and wasn’t carrying my pistol (concealed). So glad you guys enjoyed your trip to the USA! 🇺🇸

I was thinking exactly what you said. I don't know what the carry rate is in larger cities, but in small town Midwest where I live its pretty high. If you live in rural areas you also hear all the target practicing going on during the weekends.

Yeah I think it's funny that "visitors" have this impression of gunfights on street corners everywhere they go and everyone in high alert in a battle zone. We don't live in a video game. People don't run around waving guns. And probably half if not more of the people you saw had a gun on their person. There is a little sign at the front entrance to our Walmart that says "Please refrain from open carrying firearms while in the store, thank you" That is so very American.

As an American - tipping is hard to get my head around, too. Except for restaurants with waiters, when I always know how and how much to tip, I struggle to know when and how much to tip. And I hate it.

Although what he really did was a Texas country accent. They will need to go to Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, or the Carolinas to hear a real southern accent! And the Louisiana cajun accent is completely different. and then there is the Minnesota accent, and so on. 🙂

Also, population density. Sun Belt cities are more spread out. New Yorkers (and Bostonians, Philadelphians, etc.) are the way they are in large part because people are so on top of one another. You kind of have to claim your space as you keep on moving. If you stand in the sidewalk in the middle of Manhattan, you WILL get jostled, pushed aside, yelled at and perhaps worse. You HAVE to keep moving and know what you're doing and where you're going.

Born and raised in Arkansas. I moved up north for about 6 months and they made fun of my accent. I said “I don’t have an accent” then I went home and heard my dad talk and thought to myself “omg, we do have accents” 😂

Honestly I think distance is part of it. Outside of cities it will take emergency services a Long time to get to your house. In a city less than 5 minutes after you call. So both a gun and a fire extinguisher are common sense items unless you live in a city.

When you visit America the next time, you would enjoy visiting the bluegrass area of Kentucky, especially Lexington , and touring some of the race horse farms. This is not just beautiful country, but the majestic and luxurious barns, mansions, and hospitality. The summer months of course would be the best time to visit. The Kentucky Derby would be a real treat. Actually, I am a Kentucky native but have never been to the Derby. We hope you enjoy your visit.

With all of the rancor and division we see these days, it really makes me feel good about where I am from (ALL of it), even if it does take having to see it through the eyes of folks from outside. It gives me hope.

Believe it or not, even we Americans can experience some culture shock when traveling around the country, since regions can be so different. I grew up in California and when I first visited the South in my mid-20s, it was such a different environment than what I was used to. I'll never forget getting hugged by a lady that I didn't know just because her daughter was friends with my sister, who was going to college in the area. I was taken aback that a total stranger would want to hug me. After she walked away, I turned to my brother and said, "we're not in California any more." Such unexpected hospitality is part of why I eventually ended up moving to the South... and it still sometimes feels like a different country than I grew up in. So, yeah, you don't necessarily need to be a foreigner to experience some culture shock here.

We were literally raised that when you leave a gathering of friends and family, that it is extremely rude to leave without hugging every single person there. Doesn't matter if it's 25 people. It takes a LONG time to leave a gathering where I grew up lol. And I don't mean rude, like, it's just seen as bad manners. I mean rude as in, people will talk about you after you leave, and you'll probably get a call from your mother or grandmother on your way home because of how you emarassed them with you "uglyness towards so and so".

Yes we have people come and visit Arizona come on and go to our hiking trails, and they see a bunch of us carrying sidearms. We do this in case of a mountain lion attack or whatever. But I see some of them shocked and white in the face. Especially when we are nice and say hello how are you?

I went to New Zealand for 1 week 15 years ago to visit my American brother at the university of Auckland study abroad. I have never been in a place with people so nice and friendly. Maybe they were mocking us but everyone seemed to want to talk and show off how beautiful and awesome New Zealand is. I will never forget that country, never!

If I were a foreigner coming to the US I would fly into one of the big cities to see it and then spend the rest of the time outside of the large cities to see the amazing country. I did that in the UK (spent two days in London and the rest of the trip driving all over the country) - best trip. I wish I had done that in France.

I'm glad they added the "Big City" part to the title. Hope they spend some time in small cities/towns when they return. I grew up in a smaller mid-west city and on my grandparents' rural farm, complete with a tiny town for banking and such. Then lived 15 years in Southern California. You can't make general statements about America.

It’s not that the big cities are bad; they have their own allure. But if you want to feel the heart and soul of this country, venture into some of the smaller cities. You have four people who responded to the negative for your comment. As someone who is living in a town (45,000 pop) but lived in Los Angeles for decades, I agree completely with you. The urban areas with all of their so-called diversity are really very much the same. They have differences in topography but the rest of them are clones. I've been to many cities and going to one is no different than any of the others so I laugh at New Yorkers or Angelinos who think they are so unique. It wasn't until I got out of the cities and started seeing the rest of the country that I found true diversity and differences in personality and culture.

The U.S. is so diverse; politics (“Red” and “Blue” states), The West Coast vs The East Coast, Northern states vs The South, “The Bible Belt”/Mid-West, farm country/rural, big cities… the culture; food, music, etc, the people; accents, different values and beliefs… and our complex history… it’s a lot to experience!! Tipping is standard throughout the USA. Current tipping is min 18%, but regularly 20% plus for dining or where you are receiving service. Basically if anyone is assisting you in any way you should tip them. If you get assistance with luggage- anywhere-, standard is at least $1.00 per bag. A few bucks for your tour guides is appreciated and appropriate as well.

My wife and I are very simple and lived in Guatemala for a few years and it was shocking to hear the beliefs that America didn't have any poor people and things like that.

We Americans are shocked by the price of food also. Prices have soared over the past few years more than at any other time in modern history. It's absolutely crazy how bad it has gotten in 4 short years. Fast food restaurants are struggling because they typically catered to lower income customers who now can't afford it.

Some people only want to experience big cities and that’s okay but there is a lot of amazing things to experience outside of them and I find it sad when people don’t realize that or give it the chance. So happy to hear you enjoyed your trip to the states!! I am one of many Americans that have not visited any other country; it is simply too expensive got me. If I could, I would love to visit England, Australia, and of course New Zealand if money were not an issue. I think that you would enjoy Nashville TN (only 2 hr drive from me in Kentucky) and after that drive 3 hours east and visit the Great Smoky Mountains national park. The smokies are beautiful; rent a cabin there and just relax! Lots of hiking trails and beautiful scenery. It is my happy place when I want to rest and recharge. Your videos on your USA trip were amazing,..I have driven through New York City, spent a few days in Dallas probably 45 yrs ago, and I did have a visit to LA back in the 90’s for a few days. The shocking thing about the redwoods is on your way there you’ll see a small stand among regular conifers, and they look like giant weeds projecting through grass. It’s the craziest thing.

Don't worry. Many Americans are getting really sick of tipping. Many places that never used to get tips are now trying to guilt people into tipping. As a rule of thumb if you are sitting down and people are waiting on you it's expected to tip if you are ordering food from a counter then no tipping. Hope that helps.

You guys should really come back and visit the small towns and rural areas. The kindness people you will ever meet, if a do say myself. I live in middle Georgia and came here from Germany. In a rural area with 50 acres if land. So peaceful but big cities about 30 to 45 mins away. Can't beat it!

Yup, not likely to see guns out in the open in any major city in the U.S., ...unless you witness a gang shooting. You might occasionally see citizens open carrying in western states when you are in smaller towns, out in the sticks, or "BFE", as it were.

If you want to see the most beautiful part of the US, come to Northern Wisconsin in the fall - (September/October). The fall colors are amazing, the weather is perfect, and you won't believe how many lakes and rivers there are. The fishing is excellent also. You must see Lake Superior, it's stunning. You'll love the whole state!!

Texan here!! Sam your Texas accent was great!!! I moved to Kansas in my 20s for a few years because my then husband was in the Army and we were stationed there. I never realized how thick my Texas accent was until I moved there. Lol!! After living there for a few years, I started to lose some of it, but when I moved back to Texas, it started coming back. And as many have mentioned, most gun carriers carry concealed. In fact, I can't tell you the last time I saw someone open carry. You were probably around lots of people carrying guns, but did not realize it. Loved this review of the US.

I spent a month in Christchurch and Queenstown. I met a bartender friend there that refused to let me take a 7 hour bus trip back to the Christchurch airport and drove me there himself and took me on a sight seeing trip via Mt. Cook. I’ll always see Kiwis as the friendliest people. I think Kiwis,Aussies and Texans are the only people that wave to strangers for no reason.

Being from Texas I find that the people from Australia and New Zealand have the most pleasant accent of all. I’ve always enjoyed listening to anyone from those areas speak. Many of my RU-vid channels are oriented around those areas. Many skilled craftsmen particularly in the Motorsports trade. Ford engines got the attention much longer around there than here in the US. I hope to pay an extended visit there some day.

It's understandable as a tourists from another country the U.S. is too big to experience everything so it's easier to stick to the big names like NY, LA, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, D.C. but the rural parts can be very interesting places that you could possibly fall in love with.

Great video - ex pat kiwi here. Food is quite expensive in places like NYC, LA, SF but much cheaper even at restaurants in middle USA. Likewise the mainstream supermarket chains but if you go to Walmart, Winco or Sam’s Club/Costco it is quite a bit cheaper than New Zealand. I noticed you’re eating it In-N-Out and Chick-fil-A two great favourites here in America and yes, you’re right, the fast food variety is mind-boggling. One of the big things that you’ll notice driving in America is not just the sheer volume of the traffic and the size of the roads but the speed which drivers drive particularly in the western United States. The speed limits are higher and nobody honours them so most people drive 10 or 15 miles an hour above the speed limit with impunity whereas when I go back to New Zealand I can’t believe how slow everybody is driving.

Good rule of thumb to avoid a ticket in America. Try to stay only going 10mph over the speed limit. Once you go 15-20 over, you’re asking to get pulled over. But you are correct. Hardly anyone treats the posted speed limit as the actual speed limit 😂

So has the monthly rents for apartments. That's gotten worse than the food prices. Sadly, the DSHS Food Assistance benefits, aka Food Stamps, hasn't kept up with the speed of the food prices increases that have happened. The rent hikes are making it so that those who are on a fixed income can't afford the new rent prices. SSA just isn't keeping up with it. That's put a lot of people out into the streets because of the ridiculous increases.

My wife and I love your channel. If you ever make it to Maine, be sure to try our amazing seafood. Lobster, crab, mussels, clams, swordfish, haddock, cod, monkfish, we have some of the best seafood in the world. You'll never see a seafood chain restaurant in Maine because any local shop serving our fresh seafood absolutely crushes the sad, frozen excuse for seafood the chain restaurants serve. I grew up in California and have lived in Texas for 22 years. I love listening to all the different accents here. I’m within a days drive to Louisiana and Mississippi and still think it’s cool to listen to the different accents.

The tip thing is more of a respectful thing and showing that you acknowledge the server. If service isn't good, it's not required. But all in all you dont have to tip, it's optional. As a Texan, it's surprising how different the South is a whole, than other areas. Ty for loving our food. 😁

Tipping is culture here because, it's a way we show gratitude and appreciation, we like to congratulate and support and be charitable. Tipping someone feels great, its a positive and personal interaction with a member of your community, its like a cycle here. It feels good to hand someone $50 and shake their hand and thank them and see the smile on their face and wish them well and leave. They feel great. it makes them feel like their efforts are acknowledged, it motivates and inspires and results in consistent and better work. If you don't tip... you get the culture you have. you're a non tipping culture and so the proof is in the pudding. I bet you'd rather have our service and culture... I love to tip. and I work in a job where i get tips.

I also work a job where I occasionally get tipped...although I don't "expect" it. I view it as a small cash bonus. I think a growing problem however is this mindset that everyone now needs to get tipped. Servers, food delivery drivers...tipping makes sense given the circumstances. But when I am picking up my own food at a pizza shop? Or going through the drive thru? I have to draw the line at some point.

You will be surprise how many accents you will find throughout the United States. It varies from state to state and regions of the country. The more you travel here the more you will see and hear the differences between regions as well as states, cities, and rural areas.

Homeless on the streets is a big city west coast and northeast thing. You don't see that in the vast majority of cities in the US. It's frankly embarrassing that we have that in the US at all, but the laws and policies in the places that have that problem, caused that problem. Your Texas accent was really good!
