Alternatively, have a baby. My one year old demands about 30 books a day. I don’t know how many I have memorized 😅 it’s a dream to read for me again

I started being an avid reader back in 2014. One thing that helps me reading lots of books is having a goodreads account. It helps me choose the books I want to read and I just really love tracking my reading on there.

Agreed! I started using StoryGraph which is the same as goodreads but better (it shows your bookish taste in graph form which is really sun) and not owned by Jeff Bezos 😎

I started a book club with some work friends many years ago and it has been so rewarding. Not to mention the amount of business that we get done at our meetings.

Love this vlog. I absolutely love reading but as you said reading often takes a second seat to scrolling etc! I have just deleted my Instagram and Facebook apps for the next month so I can concentrate on other things, reading included. I have just moved so will look for a book club and also love the idea of looking at reviews and maybe even write some myself! Happy reading! ❤

I was suuch a bookworm as a kid and also just completely stopped reading around the time I started undergrad for God knows what reason (I studied a very reading-intensive subject so that probably didn't help) and it took me until first year of my masters to get back into it. I think I read about 25 this year, probably going to be a little less next year as I'm now working full time but still very proud of myself for that

Thanks for all the amazing content recently it really has me inspired to finish out the year strong.

@@annoar9776 hahaha not all year, typically I read a ton in the colder months (2-3 books a week, and yes I was pretty much always reading except for work and sleep) and slow way down during the summer when I am busy. When I am really into a book I struggle to put it down, usually at the expense of sleep and pretty much everything else. My big goal for 2024 is to write my first novel, so I am unlikely to be reading as much as this year.

People, I implore you to consider prioritizing quality vs quantity of the books you read. Also, well written fiction from the Greats are as beneficial for our personal growth if not more. I read Anna Karenina, Crime and Punishment, and other classic books this years and it was life changing. I find it sad when people over-emphasize on the number of books. It’s not a race. Just some thoughts. Not trying to be a snob I swear.

Do you like detectives? Try The Thursday Murder Club. Best book I’ve read in a while. Easy to get into. Small chapters. Entertaining and full of wisdom and love. ✨

Some good tips! (would like descriptive timestamps, though, instead of generic Idea X) On the first one, it's also worth remembering that you won't really know what your taste is until you actually read a lot. So if you've not been a reader and don't really enjoy to read the books you've tried, take it as a signal that it might be a genre, author, style, whatever that you might not be enjoying. And if you do read a lot, you'll have read so much stuff that liked or didn't like that you mental picture of that will be pretty clear (that's one of the reasons I still read books that I don't completely enjoy, just to understand myself a bit better). As for audiobooks, I thought the same way as you, but these days I'm only limiting myself to fiction, books in languages that I'm learning, and generally books that I have no intention of taking notes from. It's much harder to take notes from audiobooks (I typically listen on the go) and even to stop yourself to think about what you've just read, whereas when reading books it just sorta happens automatically, you just sometimes stop and ponder.

I feel like that counts. Some of those fanfics are novel or novella length.

I don't think I should watch this video, I'm currently at 164 books this year and have at least 7 that will be finished before the year ends... I don't think I should read way more at this point. 😂

😂 fiction and nonfiction?
@mandabee8721
@mandabee8721 6 месяцев назад
I go through cycles of not reading at all, reading for pleasure, and reading as escapism. If I'm up over 50-60 books in a year for me personally, it's probably become an escape mechanism for me and I'm neglecting other areas of my life or trying to distract myself from something.

@@ButterFlYnez 18 of non-fiction is a lot 👏! At the end what matters is how much do you retain, so more of those not necessarily means that it's better.
