Hey Gary thanks for sharing this! When I was a new MAC user a few years ago, I turned on Mouse keys! Don’t know how I did it! I figured that it was something I did, and sure enough it was! How ever I could not sign on to my MAC because my pass word was in the key arrangement! Had to troubleshoot on my phone via internet!! A great lesson!! 😊

Mouse keys are real guys 😭😭 I've been struggling for years, watched plenty of videos and never did they mention mouse keys, I got a new keyboard the old mini one with the batteries and got used to it hid my magic keyboard after that till i got a new mac and the problem came up again. Anyways all is set and fixed now. This was an appreciation comment 🙌🙏 didn't even finish the video 😂 but appreciate it so much

GREAT ADVICE!! ONE OF THE VERY BEST VIDEO'S I'VE SEEN IN A VERY LONG TIME. Funny bc my issue was the cap lock stopped working. I called and was on the phone with apple for 3.5 hours. But they didn't help me one bit. I just had this gut feeling that this happened when a auto update was done in the middle of the night. So I opted to sit it out and wait and wa-la after about a good month there was a newer update. So I did do that update and now the cap lock works perfectly. Go figure!

I was nervous and must have hit the option key five times. This video saved me thousands of dollars. Last time my number pad stopped working I threw my whole mac out the window for real.

Turning the keyboard upside down and tapping it at various angles can get rid of some obstructive grit from under troublesome keys.

Good video Gary. Thanks. Somehow I had Mouse Keys and Sticky Keys turned on when I first rebooted after updating MacOS yesterday. Didn’t have an external usb keyboard handy but did get about 5 secs after rebooting to enter my “mouse keys”. Took a couple of goes but got there. The “in MacOS” options of pressing the Option Key 5 times did not work, nor did Shift 5 times, nor did Option Command F5. Almost had to go back to the Apple Store or to Erase All Content and start afresh. Luckily your video pointed me in the right direction of things to try. Many thanks. Keep up the good work. ❤

this is great! I just fixed a previous issue logging in because the A key stopped working and then noticed that the languages on the keyboard were set improperly by default. After changing it, I thought nothing of it because it's a kids laptop. Came up with a work around and was sure that I was going to have to replace the keyboard. Opened it up the Am to test it and the A key was working! I was sure the whole keyboard was shorting out🤣🤐. Then after watching your video i realized it was the Language that was making the A key invalid😅. Thank for the visual walk through it definitely saved me $200.

You're a lifesaver*, I didn't know what to do with my keyboard. I only have 2 keys that suddenly stopped working (the a and the s), which I use a lot. At first I thought it was because of the build-up of debris underneath the keys but after trying all the different methods you showed, I came to the conclusion that it's most likely a hardware issue. It's possible that I didn't follow the cleaning tutorial from the website correctly, but either way I will have to call Apple support. Thanks for the very informative video!

2017 MacPro 17" Laptop, My "Return" keys were not working on both the internal & wireless external apple keyboards. I watched the whole video, nothing so far until I tried reseting the NVRAM - Now All return keys work!!! 😁 Thank you

Coincidentally this has just happened to me, I had to go through a long and laborious task to get back in, Wish i had known at the time it was a faulty keyboard. Ive now got a Macally 104 key with USB connection and loving it👍

Thank you sir - My friends macbookair kept typing symbols so it wouldnt let you type the password - Changing the input languages with no results - ending up using a usb plug in keyboard to type the password - once in it kept typing symbols - after watching this, turned out that I had to click 'ON' "Sticky Keys" After a million videos and websites - This video actually had me try that and BAM! worked.. Thank you Again, And thumbs up... Im still a widows man - I personally do not like apple products - They make stuff way more complicated than it has to be

Gary, Thanks so much! You're very first suggestion worked. Mouse keys! Who would have thought? Furthermore, I had a problem logging into my Mac, because I thought that having the virtual keyboard was the problem, so I clicked it off. As a result I couldn't sign in, so I clicked switch user and the.virtual keyboard was there, so I logged in. Update: The next day/restart the same thing happened unfortunately. I had to revisit your video, because i looked for mouse keys instead of pointer. Not sure how I can put it into memory or as a default, but grateful for this knowledge. Thanks again! Update: It does stay in memory, but I noticed if I repeated press a key (not necessarily the option key.) mouse key is activated....not sure if I can fix it permanently, but good to know that I can fix it when it is activated.
