I wish the hypergamy movement would stay out the comment section of true femininity RU-vidrs. You married well. You married someone that genuinely loves and supports you. Many from the hypergamy movement feel that you should marry solely for money, but not everyone wants luxury. Some just want love and to live comfortably.

I’m so glad that both my parents and my husband’s parents raised us to be money conscious. We both grew up upper class, but our parents were determinedly not flashy or frivolous with their money. It’s taught us a lot about treating saving, charity, and generosity as vital aspects of our budget, just like groceries or mortgage payments. There’s such a serenity in living well below your means and I can’t imagine living any other way.

I believe it's certainly elegant and appropriate to discuss finances when seeking advice or giving (solicited) advice from those you care about or admire. My boyfriend is financially very wise after years of hard work creating a system that will support our future and his aspirations. His friends often come to him for financial advice and more times than not, the best way to provide clear and simple suggestions to others is to get into the nitty-gritty of it. He is never boastful or condescending, and people really appreciate his suggestions. I do believe money should be less taboo- how will we learn and grow from one another if it's never spoken about and we only refer to stranger consolation? Like Caitlin said, it CAN often be uncouth, but it isn't classless or tacky if the social situation allows it. Remember, just because people discuss money does not mean they are gloating [:

I wish that I had the emotional and spiritual maturity when I was a younger woman to have learned to be a wise steward with finances. I was a late bloomer, and thankfully, it's never too late. All of this advice is so important! One bit of advice I would like to add for finance management is- get addictions under control! Whether it be something big like nicotine and alcohol, or something seemingly minor like collecting shoes or antiques- get your impulses under control. For me, quitting smoking and drinking entirely has allowed me to save literally thousands of dollars over the years and has given me so much financial freedom. It also freed up so much of my time and energy to explore and nurture other areas of my life, and has allowed for me to be able to be more generous to my loved ones 🌸 thanks for another great video Caitlin 💕

Her third point was to go to financially wise people for advice to avoid debt. I think the point she was making in the first point just was to not be boastful or overly willing to talk about how much the house, clothes, furniture etc. cost.
@rustyshackleford4238
@rustyshackleford4238 4 года назад
Olivia Farrington Yeah, I watched the video. She also said if we had any financial advice to feel free to leave it in the comments, that’s what I did. I wasn’t trying to be boastful, I was trying to be helpful. Many people struggle financially because of various addictions, getting them under control results in better finances, not to mention a plethora of other good things. Telling the truth or trying to be helpful isn’t the same as boasting.

I know this goes against your tip in the video, but re: #1- it can be EXTREMELY important (ESPECIALLY as a working woman) to discuss things such as salary with your coworkers. you need to look out for yourself in the workplace. I agree that it’s important to keep time and place in mind.

I agree as well! My husband and I are consciously very open with young couples we counsel as well as with friends when discussing rent rates in the same area, prices of products or where to find a good deal, etc. I think the idea that money is this private thing only furthers the idea that our identity is somehow tied to it. Money is just a resource that comes and goes. If it's not tied to my identity, I can discuss it as openly as how many apples are in my fruit basket.

My top tip for elegant finances: Let go and let God. Be wise with your money and save as much as you can realisticly, but ultimately know that God is in control and we just never know what the future has in store. Be generous, buy the items that make your heart sing, be thankful, be thoughtful, and most of all just trust Him with it all. There is no worry in a gracious heart.

I do agree with the fifth or sixth one. The one about don't make money your everything. As someone who's not Christian or follows any Abrahamic religion, I can say it's much easier for me personally to go off and buy specific things that probably won't even come in handy just because the internet told me "you're not this without this tool-" or "you can't do this without this book-", etc.

Honestly, you've already covered this point implicitly, but I would like to point out explicitly that we must, to some extent, divorce our identity from our purchases. The need, for example, to have that lavender and musk body wash that I shouldn't buy because it has sodium laureth sulfate anyway, just because it's so, *me* was hard to squash, and one may feel a little down at first. But, as you find healthier and more sustainable beauty recipes for yourself, you will not only feel and look better, but become more creative and talented. Of course, I still have favourite products, and am very choosy in all I do buy, but not needing *that* brand/shop/product anymore saves time and money and elevates you above the role of consumer. Pax!

Your perspective on this is very refreshing. The only thing I disagree with is the avoidance of talking about money with others. Over the last few years I have learned this avoidance can cause an unhealthy view of money and make it more difficult to get help from family for care when getting older and more frail. I think it should be an open topic, especially in families, but talked about in a feminine and understanding way. An open and positive mindset with money is much more elegant than avoiding the subject.

This is such a great topic. I wish more people respected that finances can be a very sensitive and personal topic. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had people just assume we are “well off” just because I am a homemaker. It’s no ones business how much someone might have or don’t have. Just because someone’s life style might appear to be one way doesn’t mean it is. We all manage our finances differently.

Great to see you back and uploading again!! I haven’t watched this yet! Will do so on my break later. It’s great to see you talk about finances. It’s something we really should be more open to talking about (I’m an accountant so I’m big in finances!!!) and I truly believe that it’s also a cornerstone of a healthy marriage / long term relationship to be able to talk about money and financial plans together!

Laurie Bailie is that True? I cannot believe that someone who lives After scripture, Altough i am devout muslim, does that. I mean, maybe she was. I mean as a muslim girl i would go totally against God if i discriminated black people because its Gods Creation and just does bring nothing than frustration and inequality. MusT be the Same in christianity? And so therefore not acceptable for mrsmidwest either..
@fleurviverre7097

It goes against scripture to discriminate anyone for any reason. There are many examples in the Bible where Jesus served the ones who were experiencing prejudice in the day. Mrs Midwest is a bible believing girl and not a racist. I don’t like this witch hunt over people who aren’t making videos about BLM. She commented about it on her instastory and that’s enough for me. On a side note, I hope her husband is not receiving undeserved prejudice right now for being a white cop.

One thing I would say is it is okay to speak to someone about finances to ensure you're being paid the same wage as a male, e.g. in the UK a lot of female journalists have been suing for inequality in pay and succeeding when doing the same job!

Who cares? This is the USA! Thank God this is not France! France is honestly filled with so much garbage, debris and destruction now that it is destroyed and its culture for Christianity has dwindled. Maybe they should have discussed their finances before allowing their country to crumble lol. France is 51% Christian and ranks low on the countries with high populations of Christians...so that is telling for their lack of order.Greece, Romania and Poland have surpassed France's numbers with flying colours! Greece is 98% Christian and look at their beautiful country and how it was almost destroyed by the recent borders being wrongfully opened.

This may be controversial and depends on culture, but I believe you can discuss finances with close friends and colleagues. I and my peers discuss how much we are being paid and offered by companies to ensure that we are not being taken advantage of and being underpaid. I am also a recent graduate from my Masters degree and sadly some companies will take advantage of new grads and pay them less than what they deserve. Obviously this is a case by case situation and I wouldn't discuss my pay level to just anyone but I think there needs to be an certain level of transparency in the workforce to ensure no one is being undervalued and is paid accordingly!

I like to wear nice clothes as well. Sadly as of recent years since I've been married and have had 3 kids I've been falling more on the side of the black leggings and messy bun and it really gets me down :( I feel like I spend 100 percent of my time taking care of everyone else in my family and I still can't get it all done let alone put all the time into myself like I once did. I would love some tips.

Megan Richards hi Megan, I would suggest just to give it a bit of time and be kind to yourself. Speaking from experience here, my kids are, I feel, finally coming out of that phase in life of being very very little and needing so much care and attention. They youngest is 4 now, and this year I’ve finally felt like I’ve been able to come back more to myself and have a bit more time and pleasure in wearing prettier things. It is hard when kids are little and you’re carrying groceries and kids at the same time and picking things up and wiping messes all day long. Being a mum takes a lot out of you, but you do get your time and space back eventually, you will get there hun.

@@moosemousse thank you for this 💙 ive been breastfeeding as well for the last 4 years straight and I find all of my nursing friendly clothing espically at home is kind of frumpy and I wear it just for the fact that it's functional. I don't want to wish it away but I'm definitely looking forward to reclaiming some of my identity.
