In medical terms, an anomaly is any sort of deformity or distortion that makes a part of the body function incorrectly or be a different size or shape than it would be normally.
Congenital anomalies comprise a wide range of abnormalities of body structure or function that are present at birth and are of prenatal origin. These conditions develop prenatally and may be identified before or at birth, or later in life.
In some cases, anomalies can also be 'acquired' caused by injuries or illnesses that were not present at birth.

I worked in a newborn nursery and one of the babies was born with 6 fingers on each hand and 6 toes on each foot. They were perfectly formed which is unusual. The baby was also born with hemorrhoids. First time I saw that. But other than those abnormalities, the baby was perfectly healthy.

When my younger sister was born she had an extra finger on each hand. The doctor was hesitant to tell my dad because I guess they thought he would freak out or something...nope dad laughed and said "that's my girl. I was born with an extra toe" And like my dad's extra toe they tied those extra fingers to cut off the circulation so it would die and fall off. Before you go thinking that that is awful or cruel, it had no bones, muscles or tendons and would never be functional, just a floppy bit of skin with a teeny tiny fingernail. We make jokes about too much chlorine in the gene pool 😆

Your videos are always so very interesting and educational. I find the mirror hand to be fascinating. If I had that "deformity" and all the fingers were totally functional as shown on the hand at 0:40 and there was no threat to my over all health, I would not want corrective surgery. Nothing wrong with being a little "different".

I just want to understand their conditions. They each came with wild, made up stories rather than truthful explanations. And very few of them were exploited. The sideshow was their only way to make a living and they made a very good living too. When do-gooders shut down shows, many of them ended up in poverty.

Not sure how I should frame this except as observation that throughout the vid, you play spooky, creepy, scary music and sounds while showing the medical anomalies. There's message in there that I'm not sure you mean to convey-- that the anomalies should arouse feelings of fear and perhaps avoidance. I'm thinking the various persons that are displaying these unusual characteristics, some of them obviously children, should likewise be feared and avoided. I hope we are well past that way looking at differences and was happy to note that almost all of your commenters were full of "fascinat[ion]" and curiosity. I'm not suggesting the "Yakkety Sax" or selections from variously labelled "Pathetique"[s] but perhaps something with a little less of the weird. Just so ya know, I'll be back, hopefully to have my yen for curiosities filled.

Extra numerary digits are usually removed when they cause pain, malfunction or prevent use of fingers in some way. Cosmetic being the only reason is usually discouraged in modern medical practice. That said, unless there is appropriate nerve and vascularity extra digits can cause physical problems, as well as mental distress, so are often removed if risk can be shown. It's far more common than people think.

I worked in a newborn nursery and one of the babies was born with 6 fingers on each hand and 6 toes on each foot. They were so perfectly formed that looking at them first, you really didn't notice, but when u actually counted, u knew. The bones, tendons and blood supply were all normal. It was the first time I saw extra digits look and function so well. Baby was born with hemorrhoids too, first time I saw that. But other than the extra digits and the roids the baby was totally normal. That baby should be almost an adult now, I hope they're doing well.

I had a teacher who had symbrachydactyly. He was born with one hand that had nubs for fingers. Back when he was a kid his family was dirt poor and couldn't afford to do anything about it. By the time he was an adult, they could have helped him but he told us that it didn't affect him at all and he just left it alone. Pretty nice guy, Orville McKnight.

Thank God I was born with "normal" hands and feet. I can't imagine how difficult it was for these people before the corrections were made. Good thing they live in a day when those corrections are possible. Although, I expect the surgeries and rehab are long, painful and expensive.

I really wish we didn’t treat disabled people with these kinds of deformities as sideshow freaks. It’s fine to showcase their situations. Clearly I watched this video out of curiosity, too. But can we stop with the suspenseful horror movie music and scary background overlays? Have quiet music and a simple overlay if you’re going to show these people. One of my best friends has Raynauds and there’s nothing sideshow freaky about her. And before the typical AnGrY yOuTuBe CoMmEnTer jumps in, I’m not saying don’t have this kind of video topic at all. I’m just saying be a little kinder about it. You can’t argue (successfully) that kindness for these people isn’t fair and deserved. Oh you’ll argue it, but you won’t be successful at that.

Thank you for your kind comment. I have 'weird' toes and short forearms. Congenitally acquired; other than having to shorten sleeves, not a huge problem. It's unkind to criticise or laugh at people who were unable to help themselves while in the developmental stage before birth. I wish you a happy life.

For any fellow raynauds sufferers, although this won't help in any areas other than the hands (for those unaware, it can affect your vessels in any part of your body, including your torso, especially effecting the nipples, which can result in nipple death, the brain causing sudden migraines, the ears and nose, literally anywhere), but loose fingerless gloves, especially those made of wool, can really reduce how bad it gets in your fingers. Basically because your wrists and palms are kept warm, the blood going into your finger tips is slightly warmer, hugely reducing what I call "corpse fingers". I got some gloves to wear at all times (much easier when they're fingerless) around November 2022, it's now May 2023, and it's the first winter where I've not had a full blown corpse fingers attack. I get some minor degree if I'm out in cold weather, but day to day life, it's been revolutionary! If I can remember where I ordered my gloves, I'll edit this and share the name. Also elastic free socks (usually aimed at diabetics or people with latex allergies) work similarly because without the tight elastic band reducing blood flow, you're just getting that much needed heat. Definitely worth the investment. The tragedy comes when you don't know what to do with all your old but still good elastic socks 😂

The fist one the hands with lots of fingers look amazing! would not be too bad to have one hand like that, but difficult to do things with both hands. My Aunty had an extra finger on each and when she was born, but had an operation to remove the extra fingers. I think it would be OK to keep them on if it was me... only problem would be finding gloves to fit in the winter... but I could get someone to knit a special pair.

That said, I've been exposed to far too much these last years and am feeling 🤕🤢🤮 as I turn video OFF at minute marker [3:20] If they argue with you, then say, "I have simply submitted myself to GOD; I and those who follow me." You shall proclaim to those who received the scripture, as well as those who did not, "Would you submit?"
