Anaplastology, a creative combination of science and arts giving hope to people disfigured by an accident, disease or birth defect. The end result is an artificial body part that is startlingly lifelike. The anatomical add-on can do more than provide a patient with a more natural-looking appearance. It also can restore a person’s self-esteem and confidence.

It’s amazing this option has been available for over 100 years. Anna Coleman Ladd was a popular maker of these devices after WWI. She was an American sculptor, who created facial prosthetics like these for soldiers with devastating injuries. The materials have changed over the years, but other than that, the pieces (many of which are now in museums) and lifelike results are the same.

The people who show us their prosthetics for our education are very brave and I wish them much health and love!

My oldest siblings are twin sisters. They both developed PAD below the knees, and both had one leg amputated within 2 years of each other. The first twin (my sister), to have a leg amputated, did well during the surgery,..but later a blood clot formed and broke off,..leading to her lungs, and she passed away suddenly. My other sister (the other twin), was amputated as well and survived. She got a prosthetic leg,..and had a “tattoo” put on it, in memory of her twin. It’s amazing how these prosthetics can totally help in such an amazing way. I wish that we wouldn’t have lost our one sister, and we miss her so much. ❤️

It's heartbreaking to see what these people had to go through. Some of these skin cancers were likely due to UV exposure. As a retired nurse who used to work in plastic surgery and a transplant recipient, my chances of getting skin cancer are 65% higher than the general population. I've seen firsthand how the sun ravages the skin and deforms faces. It terrifies me. Yet people still happily sunbathe and go on sunbeds. Sunbeds are banned where I live but somehow people still get hold of them and constantly fry themselves. It's insanity.

Has anyone heard of the genie pig club from WW2, in fact it was the first plastic surgery. It's actually quite an inspirational documentary, seeing these soldiers with various disfigurements & burns, but they prefer it that way, they wear they're burns or scares like a badge of honor, and that's what's inspirational seriously. They could also be parts of history, the birth of plastic surgery. Because you'd find it pretty interesting, especially a channel like yours. But tbh it's more optimistic for me.

They did amazing with the realism and prosthetics. Art is always useful in different ways, though, if I had the prosthetic eye, people would notice me winking every minute. I also would have to match my makeup with the prosthetic every time I go out I’m guessing. Other than that, most of it would go unnoticed most definitely.
