I'm obsessed with this game. It's the perfect BGA game hahaha. I played it like 50 times, it's fast, it's interesting and it's simple. Perfect for short free times.
I find your reviews to be well thought out and your pros and cons to be spot on. A lot of other reviewers seem like they could be doing commercials for the game whereas yours tell me what I want to know, and include a well thought out assessment of the game's positives and shortfalls.
I think that the issue that most people have with the game, the luck of the cards and simplicity, is a hugh pro for me compared to other 7Ws. For any game that is luck dependant (like all 7 wonders) i prefer them to be simple. 7 Wonders Duel has way more things going on and it needs way more setup, but at the end of the day, between two equally skilled players, the one with the better draws wins. This is why I prefer 7WA > 7W > 7WD.
Have enjoyed this very much, as an opener or closer on game night, so for me it's complementary to 7W and 7WD, both of which I enjoy even more! And the presentation is perfect - crisp and accessible art and icons.
I think the reason it ends right when the wonder is complete is to give the youngest player (who goes first) an advantage. This will increase the probability that my kids can beat me.
Good and fair review. I really enjoy 7 Wonders and 7 Wonders Duel. Duel really is an excellent 2 player game. However, I’m looking for an accessible, easy to teach, high player count game. Our game night group has grown, which includes gamers, entry level gamers and kids or teens. So, I think this will fit the demographics of our group. 7 Wonders has been too complicated especially with distractions when we have the high player count. I will probably feel like you, that I will like and enjoy Architects but perhaps not love it.
I LOVE duel. Seriously, if you've not played it, get it. Going to get this to play with the kids, and then hopefully move them onto 7 wonders the game. Great lineup, they all have a place.
Obviously this isn't a big meaty boardgame but I have played in various boardgame groups and it works well with children and adults. My hard-core Euro group play this as a filler or just a casual game to play while chatting at the end of the night.
Hi! can someone help me? About golden cards, I must use it to complete any EXISTING resource in my hand, or I can use it freely? for example 3 golden cards to build a [3 ≠] Wonder part?
are you rating this based on if you were playing it or are you rating this based on the target audience? is this a 3 out of 5 as an adult game or a 3 out of 5 as a kid's game?
This is unbearably slow with more than 4 players for me. People still get horrendous AP when they only have 3 choices and there is absolutely nothing for you to do while the other players go.
I don't understand the reason for this game. 7 Wonders is already gateway. Why would they make it simpler? Unless they had a simple gateway game and skinned it 7W afterwards. That makes sense.
I played this at pax and I might be biased since I’m not a big fan of the system. But I much prefer the original game to this and it’s not that much different. This is becoming like monopoly and I can’t fathom why so many youtubers put this on there top lists. Maybe they all like games that are less then 30 minutes to play, well I don’t. I find them too quick and unsatisfying.
